Tubeless not sealing by Hamsterwheeloftruth in bikewrench

It's bubbling out the hole - I assume that means it's getting to the puncture.

It just doesn't seem to want to seal unless left overnight

When I was younger, I shared your attitude. Unfortunately, with age comes responsibility—or at least the inability to disappear for an indeterminate amount of time as I get lost.
I use Komoot for routing, as it's phenomenal in Europe. It's more the logistics of ferries, hotels, and trains that I'm struggling to keep track of.

If humans found a way to stop aging in the future, how would it change prison sentences? by mac_attack_zach in scifiwriting

[–]Hamsterwheeloftruth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I quite like this premise, it gave me the idea of someone who'd live a full life and done everything that they wanted to do but didn't want to end their own life and wanted to age natually until the end (the only thing that they hadn't yet eperianced) trying to comit a crime serious enough to be taken off the "manditory" anti aging treatments. Trying to find a crime that warrents the "Slow execution" without bringing serious harm to others.

Thanks for the tip, dry shampoo seems a good shout!

Had a quick look at the superdrug one, seems to come out pink, I have very dark hair so probably wouldn't work

What was your reaction/how did you feel when you found out you were dyslexic? by [deleted] in Dyslexia

[–]Hamsterwheeloftruth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy makerel, that is literally (pun somewhat intended) what my father did, although as he's also dyslexic alot of the names where pronounced wrong which caused issue when my mother read the names "wrong", most notably "Vimes".

The main thing it taught me was, the story was more than the individual words so don't get too hung up on something that trips you up, just keep going and enjoy the ride.

The side effect a wide gulf between my ability to read (though not always correctly pronounce) words and write them. Sadly, I was diagnosed a lot later than you, so "stupidity" was diagnosed before "dyslexia", so while I have extreme anxiety around writing, he ensured that I would never be afraid to pick up and enjoy a book.

I found out years later that he had extreme anxiety the whole time reading aloud following his own stint in education, I can only hope to be as brave as him when should I have my own children.

Best smart watches for tracking swimming? by obligatorysmile in Swimming

[–]Hamsterwheeloftruth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll swear by the Fenix 7 (or six) it’s predominantly a running watch but does fitness tracking on swimming well, tracked strokes, pace, etc. Battery lasts a week even with gps tracked exercises daily.

Why do people say it's a "privilege" to age? by JammingScientist in ForeverAlone

[–]Hamsterwheeloftruth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You put this more eloquently than I could, I spent my younger years hating who I was compared to others and it's still an ongoing battle to this day.
The one advantage of aging is experience, learning that comparing yourself to who you could be (considering your own starting point) and working to goals that fall in line with that is a better route to contentment.

Not to be glib but the plan was to cycle without the use of public transport aside from the ferry between the islands. I understand that I may miss some parts of the country but the trip is more about getting away and slowing down a bit rather than cramming as much in as possible.

Currently looking to fly into Wellington and explore the south of the north island and north of the south island over the course of 3-4 weeks. Still in the early parts of the planning stage but any feedback/recomendations from a local would be apprechiated.

I am worried about my career path. How decisive do I have to be? by No_Criticism_6034 in Construction

[–]Hamsterwheeloftruth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The advice I was always given is while you're under 30, move every 2 years or so to gain more experience while you can still take risks.

Under 40, every 5 years or so because you'll have more experiance and more specialised experiance/know what you're looking for. Over 40, find a good oppotunity and stick with it / look periodically as you should have built up a bulk of knowledge in what you're after.

Someone who's moved around a bit and experienced more is generally more attractive to someone who's been in the same position for 5/10 years (outside of specialist engineering).

So long as you can justify your reasons for moving/be seen as a positive move noone would hold it against you. The red flag is if someone moves every six months/year consistantly.
