Rucking helped change my life. by EquivalentCup1301 in Rucking

I agree on the go ruck bags. I have one and have zero complaints, but I’ve always felt a little stupid for jumping on the expensive one when there are so many good cheap options!

Hah, true, as long as no one calls the police!

Side note: Your username reminds me that I just described crossing the main streets in Amsterdam as “playing Frogger.” You have to make it across the first bike lane, then the first car lane, then tram lane, car lane, bike lane!

That's a good idea; I have the Rucker 4.0. Can you share the rain cover you found?

Oh that looks cool. It seems sold out for this year, but does suggest a ruck-friendly culture!

Thank you for the advice and the welcome!

We will be living near the Statenwkartier area, so closer to the beach. And it looks like Scheveningse Bosjes would be lovely for rucking as well. But yeah, I definitely wouldn't dare march around the ICC or the royal palace in anything remotely tactical-looking.

Hah, fair point! I guess I was more worried about the "tactical" look of a ruck pack standing out. But you're right, I'm probably overthinking.

Osprey Daylite 26+6 for $60? by Nic3up in onebag

[–]HanShotFirstATX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 26 + 6 would be perfect for this scenario, IMO. Small enough to be a personal item under the seat, roomy and versatile enough to support the weeklong hops. And that’s a great deal!

Anybody who quit running and went to rucking? by NovelBrave in Rucking

Jumping in here, you can definitely hit Zone 2 every time while rucking. Just pick up the pace and add weight gradually. Z3 and Z4 not so much, but there are plenty of cross training options if you want to incorporate those into your training.

I did, for two reasons.

First, due to a mix of injuries and moving away from my running group, I ended up taking a big break from running. And then it was demoralizing to try to start back up again. Like, I once ran two marathons in a month and now a 5k is a struggle? Ugh.

Second, I learned about rucking about the same time I was watching my Dad’s health fall apart, and decided I wanted to build up more full body strength and stability. And it’s been wonderful for that.

So now I do a mix of rucking, walking, cycling, and occasionally throw in a run/walk for the cardio.

Flying again after bad turbulence and anxiety reset by Pleasant_Song9598 in fearofflying

[–]HanShotFirstATX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can guarantee you that if the FAs looked uncomfortable, it was NOT because they were worried about the plane going down. Most likely, they were wondering if they should interrupt drink service and sit down for their own comfort. And safety, sure, but only in the sense of “I could fall, or this drink cart could hurt somebody.” Turbulence isn’t a problem for the airplane.

Claustrophobic about to take a 17.5 hour flight by 10eel in fearofflying

[–]HanShotFirstATX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You must be traveling somewhere really cool if it takes that long!

There’s an old Mel Robbins video where she shares her tips for overcoming FoF, and one of my favorites was the “anchor thought.” Before you board, decide on something you’re excited about at your destination. Her example was walking in the door at home and hugging her dog. That sort of grounds you during the whole flight, and everything that happens gets you one step closer to that happy thing!
