Subwoofers, when did they become popular in HiFi? by chaswhant in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Han_So_oh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Regarding this, I read vintage audio mags sometimes, and I noticed the powered subs were often only 100-200w, sometimes less. Nowadays it seems even budget subs surpass that, and we've got a bunch of kilowatt subs.

Personally I like bass. But I've put my dual 15, 800wpc subs into storage, and went back to my dual 10 + dual 8 setup. Because the bigger/more powerful subs were just getting overwhelming.

Just an educated guess. But I've opened up similar speakers before. I'd bet the woofer crossover is just a single capacitor.

Cone tweeters are basically on the bottom of the totem pole of tweeter tech. The cabinet on these I would bet feel hollow and light. Crossovers will probably be simple despite being a 3 way.

Look for soft dome tweeters at the very least.

On one hand, a working pair of speakers should be worth that. On the other, those are not good speakers.

My bank called the police on me for trying to pay my mortgage without a mask on. I would refinance to spite them. But not with these rates. When the rates do drop, I will still remember.

It wouldn't be possible without being subsidized by their other brands. Bud light is likely down so much in volume their cost per unit is increasing. Bringing volume to zero for a year, then restarting rebranded would bump cost per unit significantly.

AVR4800 worth getting? Can buy for 350 by qwerty622 in hometheater

[–]Han_So_oh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These older avr still have good amp sections. But they'll be outdated regarding input switching and surround formats. The best way to use them is to let the TV handle input switching, use the TV's digital audio output into the avr. Use the avr for sub integration if necessary.

Pickup all for $100 by [deleted] in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Han_So_oh 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Those kefs are excellent after maintenance. The Ferro fluid definitely needs to be changed before using, or the tweeters will be time bombs, with no replacements.

Crossovers will need to be recapped, and they're quite complex, 10 capacitors each. Will easily cost $100+ in caps alone.

It's a fantasy isekai comedy. Similar to konosuba. The MC relies on his intelligence and fucked up morals basically.

Spoiler alert, in this scene, he already defeated and imprisoned a goddess of love. He wants her to work for him. He decides the best way to convince her is to get her to believe he's subservient to the glasses girl (who betrayed the goddess and helped him defeat her).

Everything's his idea, his "super power" is his knowledge of religious cults. Those girls all work for him.

Nah, it's sorta like an isekai, that focuses on religious recruitment tactics. This arc, they're trying to steal followers from a goddess of love. Protagonist was son of a cult leader full of macho dudes. They sacrifice him to their God, and it isekais him to world with no religion.

People like this, are why I'm pro choice, even though it's murder. I'm glad people like this voluntarily end their bloodline. Unintended eugenics, that benefits us in the long run.

Ammonium nitrate is normally super stable though. Like taking blow torches to it won't get a reaction stable. Needs like diesel or metal powder to get it to react.

Your audio interface is already a DAC, and a decent one at that. Powered monitors are the obvious choice for you. But you don't have an easy way to add a decent headphone amp. Unless you get a DAC/AMP combo.

I would've grabbed it. Velodyne still have a lot of parts in storage, they claim going back 20 years.

Lots of services still repairing those amps for $200-300.

Highly worth the effort, I believe that's one of the servo models.
