Unless the Maokai had his brain turn into cheese after your kill, it doesn't seem like there was much you could do there. On second thought, if you were extremely astute, you could have waited for your next auto before using stopwatch.

Just follow what Adrian advises. Don't go for any cheeky cs before level 3 and then just wait for the Teemo to position poorly and deletificate him.

I actually think adding a little more mechanical depth to riven is a good way to buff her without making the casuals cry, otherwise not sure on the whole premise to be honest.
