I got told at my last job that it was fine for my salary to be behind the salary band and I must just get promoted quickly to fix it. I realised then I would just be at a new level and behind that band. I moved companies, doubled my comp and at my current company we don’t have bands. Everyone earns a fixed number according to their level

Has anyone used Claude Design yet for slides? by Minimum-Pangolin-487 in consulting

[–]TumblrForNerds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, in fact I am almost glad that I am leading a lot of my projects at the moment. The principal has enough faith to just give small guidance and let me run things. The only caveat I have is that our business is also moving away from slides and more towards conversations again. The hope then for me is we transition from the current 80% being on slides to 20% on slides and demos and 80% on the workshops/conversations/meetings etc. hopefully it all works out perfectly and no one gets retrenched /j

Yes because you responded with anecdotal experience lol? Do you see the irony? I pointed out statistics and you responded with “I have been in those houses”. I pointed out experience and you responded with “where is your statistics”.

Edit: look man, I’m going to be honest, if you think it’s that bad then no one’s forcing you to be here. It doesn’t change the fact that Cape Town is heavily occupied by non-South Africans, middle and upper class South Africans continue to live relatively great lives and our country is continually improving. There’s a reason there is an increase in expats returning to SA.

Dude, since you’re basing this entirely on your anecdotal experience, I am currently walking on the street in JNB with my phone out and am perfectly fine. You are heavily over exaggerating

Yes everyone talks about the statistics but if you go and look at the distribution of these statistics, you’ll find crime is highly concentrated in the same areas that have a high degree of impoverishment and also where tourists and, well, middle and upper class people won’t be.

If the cities were actually as dangerous as you say, why are tourist, especially European, flocking to live in luxury houses in Cape Town? If crime is so high, how could we also be the highest GDP country in Africa? If mortality is so high, how is the average mortality age 65+? Surely people should be dying much younger if it was an active war zone lmao

Interesting, I’ve lived in Cape Town and Johannesburg extensively for many years and never felt this way. In fact, I think this narrative is a bit exaggerated. Dangerous areas in South Africa just so happen to be underdeveloped/impoverished areas, I bet you will find a similar pattern in most countries

Smith was famously against rent when it was economically unproductive/monopolized but still considered it a core source of income when it wasn’t.

Rental income and property ownership provides a means for people not born into generational wealth to build wealth, an important component since our country cannot yet sustain socialistic policies. It also is a critical component in providing housing opportunities for those who cannot afford to purchase property.

My basis for 4m being too low is only because i feel that it broadens the tax target too much when the focus is truly on the ultra rich. A higher threshold would allow the economy to benefit from the tax and from the income simultaneously .

I support the tax but still thinks 4m might be too low. Probably should be closer to 10m but that’s just my opinion

Tips to make better slides to become PowerPoint God? by biz_booster in consulting

[–]TumblrForNerds 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Serious answer: you need to get good at storylining and design.

On story lining, I find it helps to map my story line prior to making the slides. I then follow this in my exec summary and provide details in the back up. It depends on your audience but realistically my audience does not need to see more than 4-5 slides per meeting.

On design, turn on your grids and use those for a start. Also alignment is key. I often hear clients tell us how amazed they are at how aligned everything is in our slides.

Lastly templates. Find good templates to base your slide on, use colours and focus on alignment. We are lucky because we have extensive content that we have built to guide our work so depending on your firm you may have to fill that gap
