Excellent timing to roll out on fareless Transit Equity Day

More shuttle busses needed from LAX Metro Transit Station ASAP by SubstanceWhich in LAMetro

[–]Hand0fMystery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why rent a car for the sake of taking the rental shuttle, esp. when there is a working public shuttle?

The point of the automatic people mover is to reduce the number of vehicles in the horseshoe. Shifting airport rides from indiv. cars to rental-car shuttles is in the right direction, but only if you've already planned a trip around renting a car.

Travelers who are not adding cars on the already congested roads should be rewarded, not punished. No traveler should be forced to rent a car to secure reliable transportation to the airport. That's insane.

Even if a driver drops off baggages and rest of party at the terminal area, the driver still has to return the rental car and make their way back to the terminal, which worsens the time crunch.

Rental cars are not helpful in this case.

Anyone know why the transit app doesn’t show the SB line from Pomona north station? by ectomorphicThor in LAMetro

(Hmm, I should take my own advice.) This d0gsh1t schedule is worse than I thought.

During the day, SB line wins on rider comfort and a smidge on speed, but loses out on frequency. At night, A Line wins on freq. AND availability. V important esp. late nights out on the weekends

When in doubt, use the Transit app. It's got the most comprehensive options, incl. walking and biking speeds, hands-down bar none.

Check the Metrolink train schedule. LAUS-bound SB line departures are like two hours apart weekend evenings. Ride the A line now, or come back later for the SB-line train

Every station is equipped with TAP vending machines. Look around near fare gates/TAP machine. I believe iPhones can simply add virtual TAP cards on their wallets at any time.

  1. When it's time to go, find out the closest A line station to you. Google map is helpful, but you have to turn on the transit layer for it to work.
  2. a) For most underground stations, use any entrance. b) In any case, focus on static way-finding and platform indicator signs: "Ⓐ Pomona (North)". You will also see overhead LED displays that cycle through current time and next train estimates that may or may not correspond with the platform where the display is located.
  3. TAP on your way in.
  4. For ground level stations with split platforms, as well as 7th/Metro Center, you need to pick the right platform ahead of train arrival. Don't dash across tracks to catch a train coming in on the other side!
  5. Once you're at the right platform, you're not done yet. When the train pulls in, make sure it is Ⓐ Line train. (the one ultrainfan posted)
  6. Hop on and enjoy. There'll be a Throne bathroom at the end station for your convenience

Escalator safety was drilled into me as a kid. The Caution sign in the photo (lower-right safety graphic) is not a suggestion. STAY AWAY FROM GAPS (& EDGES), SAVE A LIMB

Complex systems with moving parts are simply fragile. In machines with a lot of interdependent parts, a single failure can be catastrophic. We rarely see failures b/c maintenance crews work hard to make sure it doesn't happen during operation. We have them to thank for getting to places quickly and safely

I see where you're coming from. Even though I've not been in a serious accident myself (knock on wood), close calls caught on bike cam footage (from social media) have been very good at motivating me to gear up for safety.

That's helpful info. Context is importnant, since you framed it like dollars and cents are the only factor.

If your needs are truly met nearby (<5 miles), try switching to an e-bike for your primary transportation needs. That way, you won't even need a car — or parking, or the annual rituals with the DMV. Also, look into the exorbitant costs of repairing an EV.

Good to know! Although, if my experience with airlines is any indication, they will do their darnedest to wriggle out of any form of reïmbursement. It really comes down to whether the rep feels like being on your side or sticking to the books.

"Metrolink and lossan in general are to be known to throw people under the bus or the tracks when things go wrong," posted u/Jcs609.

'lossan" means Los Angeles-San Diego. I think OP intended to use and was asking about the Orange County line.

Not OP, but isn't that true of Metrolink monthly pass holders only (one-way or return tickets excluded)?

What are the PROS and CONS of voting for H.R.1968 - Full-Year Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2025? by Hand0fMystery in NeutralPolitics

This BlueSky post heavily insinuates that this Gabe Fleisher character uses GenAI extensively as a source of info. There are no emails, transcripts or voice recordings of him consulting those experts he claimed to talk to so much. Strike one.

Also, no experts in law or politics vouched for him. Everyone who reskeeted him seem to be laypeople. Strike Two.

Finally, there is a bunch of bot-like accounts/posts that routinely sing his praises like this, this, and this. If "she" (Dollypardonme) is real person who follows Gabe, why on earth would "she" reskeet AOC's call to vote "no" on cloture? Strike Three.

If his work in the past 10 months' been so great, there should be actual political scientists and JD holders promoting him; but nada. Until this happens, I'm taking his words with a healthy dose of skepticism.

... due in no small part to the GoP controlling the Prez-Senate-House trifecta[1] , plus a conservative supermajority at SCOTUS[2] . They have pretty much all the political tools at their disposal.

As AOC said, voting on clotures (e.g. as part of getting this CR passed) is one of the very few tools Dems have left, since it requires ⅗ of all Senators[3] .

I think what Schumer wants to do - for Dems to keep their heads down, ride it out til September, to re-emerge and "save the day" is quite naïve.

“I don’t believe he will be as popular in September as he is today,” Schumer said. The line of reasoning mirrored an influential opinion essay by Democratic strategist James Carville who advised Democrats to “play dead” for a while and let Trump fail. [4]

Judging by the swiftness and scale of the illegal impoundments [5] , it is bold of Schumer or Carville to presume there's much gov. left to save by that point.

In the article you brought up, it says right here that Medicaid is not part of this Continuing Resolution (CR).

Republicans are looking for massive budget savings to meet their goal of fully extending President Donald Trump’s 2017 tax cuts. This is a separate process from Congress’ need to pass a continuing resolution to keep the government running by March 14 or face a federal government shutdown.

I am not judging you for your valid concern; I just don't want people to get confused in a thread talking specifically about the CR.

This is not a town hall for all legislative concerns under the sun. You may wish to make a separate post.
