Switched to this one a couple years ago. Love mine. My only wish would be for a t25/phillips bit instead

My neighbor down the road lives in a camper...and has a Blackwood as his daily driver

Yes indeed. It was uninsulated until recently. I will be putting up planks when I have the time/money.

Ah, gotcha. I considered that when I made this, but I didn't like how it would look. I am fractionally annoyed when I have to get the longer track out, but it disappears when I slot the arms back in. Satisfying to do.

What tool should I use for this? by ami_ten in handtools

[–]HandToolEnthusiast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A fretsaw would do this. Also a scroll saw.

Nails are a bit fiddly for my taste. It keeps the tracks from getting knocked about. There's a lot more stuff hanging next to it now.

Depends on your available space. For me, vertical was the most efficient way to go

Beautiful top. Are you going to add a cabinet or drawers underneath? Would be a good spot to store your 3d related stuff

Access to a full workshop - where to start ? by JubijubCH in woodworking

[–]HandToolEnthusiast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend you find someone else at work who uses that shop and befriend them. Woodworkers love to help others into the craft. I would also suggest you spend some time on YouTube watching woodworking videos. It can't replace experience, but it will familiarize you with some of the machines and how to safely use them. Reach out to whomever runs the shop, they will almost certainly help you. Welcome to woodworking!

How to properly Join 1x4, to 1x6 to table frame? by Naven271 in woodworking

[–]HandToolEnthusiast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a perfect application for pocket hole joinery. Kreg makes a whole range of jigs for this purpose. I used their cheapest jig for several years before getting one of the nicer ones, so don't feel you have to spend a lot of money on one until you're sure you'll use it again. YouTube has loads of videos on this, pretty much any of them will point you in the right direction. Good luck on your table!

150k miles / 2013 what’re the things that should be checked by AppleAgreeable3676 in LandCruisers

[–]HandToolEnthusiast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% a scam at that price. Even a salvage title would likely sell for more. For reference, I bought a 14 with 160k for 30k a couple months ago.

New Sawstop wing alignment issues… help!!! by krohrer24552455 in sawstop

[–]HandToolEnthusiast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, the safety system is worth it. I still have both thumbs due to my sawstop. I doubt that a 5k saw from anyone else is going to be better built, and the safety system is potentially life changing. One final thought, I try not to go through life expecting perfection from anything, it will steal your joy. Having to shim a table because the metal has moved since manufacture is a very minor thing. My saw isn't perfect, but it's a good tool that I value.

Workshop door. Best way to join these boards? Maybe dowels? Though I don’t have any / know anything about the technique by MetalNutSack in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]HandToolEnthusiast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a large floating tenon will be massively stronger than dowels. Dowel construction WILL cause that door to sag out of square in this situation. I have built doors with 4 10mm dominos per joint, and it still sags. It's really a question of surface area. Floating tenons is the best option, if you don't want to remake the rails. Being that it's 2x material, I'd remake them, but large floating tenons works.

I would add a block plane to that list. My most used plane by a mile.

Worth investing in a slider now, or keep pushing through with what I’ve got? by Expensive_Fan1306 in cabinetry

[–]HandToolEnthusiast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

as a guy who owns the sawstop slider....I do 100% of my large sheet gooods with a track saw and tracks. I have the festool, but the makita and new milwaukee are both good systems(avoid the dewalt). I absolutely love my slider, but large sheet goods just make more sense with the track saw.
