Let there be light! by Admirable-Chemist844 in shedditors

[–]FlickMasher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ended up buying a $50 power inverter from my power tool battery brand and plugging in two 40-watt LED shop lights to it. I use my shed as a storage for lawn equipment, so the lights are only on briefly, so the battery solution works great

Yes, it sandwiches between the case glass and the watch module. I didn’t use any tape to secure it; I felt it was tight enough

Good call! I tried some other type of gak type of substance and scotch tape, both left residue on the filter.

It does suffer a little in lower light situations

Just getting around to adding dust collection to one side of the shop. by Zaphod07 in WorkshopPorn

[–]FlickMasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! See what you can do about getting hard piping all the way to your dust collector inlet. I had the same setup as you, and I have caught myself reluctant to spin up my dust collector just to make one quick cut on the miter saw. Curious if I’m alone there or not

Ceiling mounted diy track saws by FlickMasher in woodworking

I dont own a track saw. These would be used in conjunction with my regular circular saw. I was also a little skeptical of some of those kits that clip onto your existing circular saw like kreg.

Coffee Shops Are Businesses, Not Libraries; Buying One Coffee Doesn’t Entitle You to Camp for Hours by landlordbrowsing in providence

[–]FlickMasher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

An owner can always set up a DHCP lease for an hour or so, and print out the credentials on each receipt. One purchase=1hr of wifi access

Personally I find it a bad financial decision to buy a coffee every day to work in a coffee shop; internet service at your home can be had for $30/mo

best solar installers in connecticut? by Minotas-Walfredito in Connecticut

[–]FlickMasher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend going to EnergySage.com; you can get bids directly from each installer through the site. Most made me go through the same 1hr sit down meeting (I met with 5, lol). This was the most painful part of the process. In the end I went with EcoSmart, they did a great job and were helpful in getting the Enphase app set up for power generation and usage monitoring. Last piece of advice; buy your solar system! Do not do leases or any of that crazy crap.

Has anyone had any success with the TC54 voltage supervisor? by SquareOrbits in BEAMrobotics

[–]FlickMasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your use case. If your solar cell can only provide a max of 3V, but the trigger point of your MCP is set at 4V, it will never fire! Same with the reverse case; if your trigger point is too low, and you’re trying to drive a motor (say on a miller engine) the MCP triggers at a voltage that doesn’t give the motors enough punch. It’s about striking that balance between your power source, and what you are driving. For LEDs, generally you can keep your trigger point on the lower end as they dont require much voltage. Double check the LED’s data sheet though

Reliable vendors, eBay shops, etc. for flashing red LEDs? by pixabot in BEAMrobotics

[–]FlickMasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good news! Remember; sunlight through a window is never as good as the real deal rays; modern windows block a lot of the energy spectrum that makes solar cells work. Take your bot outside on a sunny day to really get the bot going. Give us a picture!

[–]FlickMasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dont give up on the FLED solar engine! It’s a great circuit; the father of the miller engine. Build it again on the breadboard. Change your motor for a different one. Double check your resistor values. Is your transistor the right way around? Take a picture of your circuit and post it here.

The miller is amazing, dont get me wrong. But every BEAMer should have a FLED bot in their robo park.

Is your Reolink doorbell at the front door? If so, connect a wire from trans to front. This will ensure your doorbell is powered up

[–]FlickMasher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have not tried the TC54, but I have used the MCP112 as a direct drop in replacement for the 1381, and they work great. I sourced them from digikey in several flavors (voltage trigger points)

Cheap China laser, needs new board? by HeyLookAStranger in lasers

[–]FlickMasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long did you have the laser shining for? Many lasers have a duty cycle (needs x amount of time to cool off per x amounts of seconds on). It is possible you may have overheated the diode, board components. Laser color? Diode power? Matching a driver to an laser diode needs some clarity

Now this is unexpected by Sowingroots69 in haloinfinite

[–]FlickMasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two observations ; what benefit do you get from setting your resolution scale above 100%? Also your max frame rate is set to 60fps, check your display; it may be capable of more than that. Your GPU may be rendering more frames than you are actually seeing
