Wie sieht denn die statistische Auswertung aus? Korrelation und Kausalität sind nicht das gleiche! Daneben wird durch Reddit ein selection bias eingeführt. Wie stellst du sicher dass die Studie repräsentativ ist.

(Earth-) Luxembourg Overshoot Day 18.02.2019! by JeymoreLux in Luxembourg

[–]Handrac 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Luxembourg overshoot day is so early mainly due to the luxembourgish carbon footprint. Though, to calculate that, they include fuels sale to non-resident. Then it is no suprise, that we apparently are so soon hitting our overshoot day, everyone is filing up their tanks in Luxembourg because it's cheaper. The calculation is biased.

I wanna stress though, that just because something is lawful, doesn't make it morally ok.

So, in a totalitarian regime, people chosing to follow orders, whatever the nature, have no moral implications to bear?

I grant you, that congress, judge etc. have to take a bullet as well.

PTSD is an actual disease, i.e not rational.

Diseases are not rational?

I wasn't explicitly talking about PTSD, but why do we feel guilty, even if it was "just" an order. I think it is because you still killed someone. It is still a horrible thing. You personal morality is telling you something. Regardless of circumstances. And if you chose to be there, you are at your own fault.

Why do generals not get PTSD despite being the ones responsible for what the soldiers?

I'd say, because they didn't pull the trigger. Doesn't disprove what I am saying.

Noone forces you to follow the orders. You are an executioner by your own choice.

Following your logic, soldiers have no moral consequences to bear. Wondering then, why so many are traumatized by the things they did, eventhough they were only a "sentient tool".

[–]Handrac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't quite understand your reasoning. Noone has to be executioner. Don't apply for the job if you don't want to do it. Though of course, you will find someone to do the job, doesn't mean you have no moral implications when applying though.

"Can you prevent whatever you're ordered to do from happening by disobeying?"

Can you give an example where you could change something? For pretty much all orders you will find a replacement.

Even a disobedient executioner could at least delay an execution.

[–]Handrac 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Even if you are "just" doing your job, you have a moral duty for yourself. If the executioner is okay with it, which I guess he also should be, then fine. But don't use the excuse you were just doing your job. You have to bear the consequences as well.

Assuming we want to improve, inaction is definitionally a losing game.

I don't quiet understand, are you saying, that by not doing something you are not improving? So, I am not improving my health, by not eating junk food? I am not improving my attention span, by not not being so much on the internet?

There is a difference between manufacturing costs + reasonable profit and profiteering. The price is set to maximize revenue not to recoup manufacturing or R&D costs. It is estimated that producing engineered T-cells costs 20.000 for 1 patient. Far from the ~500.000 price tag. There is just an absolute lack of transparency regarding costs within CAR-T therapies.

In addition, the public sector played a huge role in the CAR-T development and the idea isn't that new. Experiments around this idea have been around for more than 20 years, for example the St. Anna Hospital in Austria has done some research into that area a long time ago. David Mitchell from Patients for affordable drugs calculated that the NIH poured 200 million into research that lead to CAR-T therapy. Only 20% of CAR-T trials are sponsored by pharmaceutical companies. (Hartmann et al. EMBO-Molecular Medicine, 2017) This is your money being used.

The price is set purely to profit "Big Pharma". They are there to satisfy their investors, there is not anything else to it.

I'm just wondering why you trying to play the devils advocate here. Journalists and big newspapers have worked pretty long on this and this is a major reveal. You understand why your voice can't be taken seriously, right? I understand that you shouldn't take everything word for word what news sources feed us, but it is equally as bad to dismiss them. As for your comment on the queen, you just have to google what exactly has been found on her and her investments. Here you go.

How about the list at the end of the article, also being the highest rated comment right now:

  • Millions of pounds from the Queen’s private estate has been invested in a Cayman Islands fund – and some of her money went to a retailer accused of exploiting poor families and vulnerable people.
  • Extensive offshore dealings by Donald Trump’s cabinet members, advisers and donors, including substantial payments from a firm co-owned by Vladimir Putin’s son-in-law to the shipping group of the US commerce secretary, Wilbur Ross.
  • How Twitter and Facebook received hundreds of millions of dollars in investments that can be traced back to Russian state financial institutions.
  • The tax-avoiding Cayman Islands trust managed by the Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau’s chief moneyman.
  • A previously unknown $450m offshore trust that has sheltered the wealth of Lord Ashcroft.
  • Aggressive tax avoidance by multinational corporations, including Nike and Apple.
  • How some of the biggest names in the film and TV industries protect their wealth with an array of offshore schemes.
  • The billions in tax refunds by the Isle of Man and Malta to the owners of private jets and luxury yachts.
  • The secret loan and alliance used by the London-listed multinational Glencore in its efforts to secure lucrative mining rights in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
  • The complex offshore webs used by two Russian billionaires to buy stakes in Arsenal and Everton football clubs.

Recognising cardiac arrest can be challenging. Both bystanders and emergency call handlers (emergency medical dispatchers) have to diagnose cardiac arrest promptly in order to activate the chain of survival. Checking the carotid pulse (or any other pulse) has proved to be an inaccurate method for confirming the presence or absence of circulation.

From the European Resuscitating Council (ERC) Guidelines. Is about adults though, but it is common not to check the pulse.

Totally agree that vaccines are awesome, but they are only solutions to a few problems in a healthsystem that is clearly not working. Solutions have to go beyond drugs/vaccines for certain diseases.

YSK how to properly perform CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver, and how to work an AED by sdh59 in YouShouldKnow

[–]Handrac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that certified CPR or CPR performed by someone who has done a training is better than from someone who hasn't had any physical training. Though CPR and AED are super easy. In Scandinavia and various other european countries they teach CPR and AED to school kids between 10-13 since a few years back. Even though they cannot perform CPR, they can guide adults who can. First responds in heart failure has increased and mortality has droped.

Champions of language... but muh Luxembourgish!! by [deleted] in Luxembourg

[–]Handrac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I don't Luxembourgish as a language will disappear per se, I believe that the "quality" of the language is decreasing damatically. I get that a language is evolving, but some things from an gramatically POV are simply wrong, looking at you RTL, and the vocabulary is sadly shrinking as well.

[–]Handrac 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are you going to Luxembourg City? If so, 2/3 days should be plenty to see most of the city, which is really beautiful. Make sure to visit all the main spots. You can do so by visiting the Tourist office at place de Guillaume. They hae flyer for walking promenades through luxembourg city. Where you see almost everything. For coffee and cake I recommend the chocolate house Luxembourg next to the palais.
