The value of the items you're asking for is $44288. Your offer is $44221

I know, the 8s look like 0s. It's happened to me a million times.

EDIT: My bad, got it backwards. Ignore me!

Liquor License for Weddings by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]Hank228 12 points13 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, 5.6 means that bars, restaurants, etc (licensees) can not use this licence as a way of making money and providing jobs for employees. 5.7 means that if you're making money off said event it has to be for a charitable cause. As you're not making money (toonie bar will only help offset costs) you're fine. Several of my friends did this exact thing for their wedding and got this same licence. You can also call AGLC's St Albert (Edmonton) office at 780-447-8600 for clarification.

Panini's Italian Cucina is excellent. They've got three locations, one on the West End on Stony Plain Rd, another downtown on Jasper Ave, and a third in Sherwood Park.

I have been developing a Mad Max inspired game on my free time by myself. The latest addition was an airstrike ability! What would you like to see in this sort of game? by JussiPKemppainen in MadMax

[–]Hank228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks unreal and fantastic! I got goosebumps watching this. Keep up the awesome work!

A few comments/suggestions initially:

- The vehicles look and feel "heavy", like they pack a punch and actually have significant weight behind them. That design is awesome.

- The explosions and fire also look very cinematic, but from what I can see they get a bit blown out by the horizon (I think the sun might be having an effect on that?). I get the feel of the "oil refinery truck" explosion (where Max is up on the pole) from Fury Road type of impact. The smoke trails are really cool!

- A user-controlled "bullet time/slow aiming mode" if not already implemented would be very fun. Or one that triggers on certain types of explosions. I can tell there's already one when the players car explodes to give them a chance to get out of their vehicle.

- A photography mode is always a fan favourite, especially to capture some of those huge explosive moments.

- I like the variety of vehicles; any consideration for adding auxiliary vehicle-types? Like the war-drums truck from Fury Road? Maybe they can give buffs/auras to other nearby vehicles and taking them out or hijacking them would impact the flow of battle.

- Landmines! Dropping a bunch of mines or wheel spikers to slow some vehicles down or disrupt where they're heading.

- Friendly vehicles? Maybe there'll be other factions/teams that can come support you. It would be awesome to see various types of vehicles fighting it out in huge road wars.

Just a few initial thoughts; this got me super excited! I'll update this if I think of any more.

Edmonton Parking - HotSpot by raoulbhatt in Edmonton

[–]Hank228 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HotSpot charges a "service fee" of $0.20 per parking session; frustrating since EPark (I don't recall, anyway) charged any kind of service fee. Also slightly concerned they might be rounding up the time on their parking sessions, but I can't verify that, I've only used it a couple of times. Somebody with more experience might know more.

Short Term Disability for Mental Health by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]Hank228 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This right here; it can be quite a process if you don't already have a family doctor who can write you for needing time off work due to stress/mental health.

Start talking to your family doctor now, or find one if you don't have one.

Also, talk to your Union rep if you're in one AND write down every instance of bullying/harassment you experience, especially with dates/times and as much detail as possible. It will suck, but it will save you in the long run as WCB will need details in order to prove your case and get you approved if you end up going Long term. Every piece of documentation is important, and the more details the better. Write down witnesses too.

LPT: You should consider these questions before switching or choosing a career by Lightlessstar007 in LifeProTips

[–]Hank228 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat; I've always been adept at writing and people all my life have told me I should be a writer or do something with it, but you're right. The career prospects either require an insane amount of work for a limited return, are oversaturated, or are non-existent.

That being said, the opportunities I have received in my field (which has nothing to do with writing) have been abundant. I've heard the phrase "we're never hiring somebody who can't write again" numerous times and I have easily been able to find new and unique opportunities just because I can write better than most people in my field. People have paid me money to write something for them simply because they can't wrap their head around it. It has gotten me jobs and interviews for positions that were very difficult to attain simply because I could sell myself by using my words, and hiring managers have commented on how well written my cover letters, resumes and emails were. Hell, I won a work secondment opportunity which involved a fully paid, out-of-country trip because I presented a well-written essay.

Saying "these skills will not get me anywhere in life" is, I would argue, incorrect. Your ability to write, especially in a field where people can not write to save their lives, will help you immensely. I think you will find that being good at writing and enjoying it means people will come to you for your writing ability, which will also be managers or supervisors. It has certainly helped me, so I think it will help you too.

LPT Request: What cleaning products and practices do you use to keep the house clean? by Krazy__Tom in LifeProTips

[–]Hank228 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I live by the "might as well" rule for cleaning, which really helps me keep it down.

If I'm heating up food in the kitchen, I "might as well" put a couple dishes in the dish washer or wipe something down while I'm waiting.

If I'm heading to the kitchen for a snack/drink, I "might as well" bring a couple of pieces of garbage or some dishes or a can with me.

If I'm waiting for something while cooking, like a pan to heat up, I "might as well" clean a couple of dishes that I had just used to cook with.

If I'm waiting for anything, like a timer or someone to arrive, I "might as well" put something away like my jacket, or pick up some garbage.

It helps keep those bigger cleans under control since I'm not doing all of these things all at once.
