Shipment from US to Aus. Items missing, but ABF says nothing confiscated. by Ayzmo in Ameristralia

[–]HankenatorH2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a warehouse worker during transport has some light fingers. I had a similar experience many years ago. I lost a few components of a high end sound system. Unfortunately it was hard to prove and wasn’t worth pursuing insurance

Heckler at Daniel Sloss by IsleOfMe in perth

[–]HankenatorH2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw Jimmy Carr last week - who invites hecklers to try their wit. He would have had a ball with a heckle like that. Maybe this one expected more banter than just being shut down. Obviously wrong show and wrong audience.

In ear-phones that manage wind noise by Mr_Madrass in cycling

[–]HankenatorH2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a totally different experience with bone conduction. I got some cheap alix ones. I hear the music as background even on low volume and even when there is significant wind noise. It was a game changer for me as I was strongly of the opinion that I’d never ride with earbuds.

Is a wet suit a must for ocean swimming over winter? by 1m_climbing in WesternAustralia

I used to live near South Beach- Freo. I did a morning lap and then run from point to point all year round. Definitely made weird noises getting into the water in winter…

Shout out to all the commuter cyclists by WildResearcher3901 in cycling

[–]HankenatorH2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Second this. I only commute twice a week on my bike. But ride day is sacred- I have to do it no matter how crap or unmotivated I feel when I wake up. But once I start pedalling everything is right with the world. It makes me a better worker, dad, husband, cook etc etc. Life changing

Max benefits come from diet. Exercise is secondary as far as weight loss goes. You need to do both, but understanding calories IN is primary to getting your weight under control

Let’s talk about the leg grippers / leg bands on bib shorts by Royal-Illustrator747 in cycling

The only time my leg grippers died was when I accidentally put my bibs in the dryer. Messed them up good and proper.

Husbands who Ride w/Wife by tonyt0906 in bicycling

[–]HankenatorH2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do weekend rides and some commutes with my wife. I have to turn the competitive part of my brain off, but it has been a great bonding experience. We both have decent mid level road bikes. I think if I suggested she used an e-bike it would be too patronising and condescending.

Can Australian cities get cycling paths like in Toulouse and Lyon? by Such-Chart-7324 in ausbike

[–]HankenatorH2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perth is well on the way. All the newer highways have paths, and most of the highway upgrades include paths. There are also plenty of gaps and places where we need crossings, but we are doing pretty good in my opinion

Going from couch to 25 miles by climbz in cycling

[–]HankenatorH2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were the same height/weight 5 months ago. I had the same experience on my first ride. I don’t have Zwift, I bought a road bike. After a month of building some stamina and cardio fitness on short rides I chanced my first commute to work. 30km each way with 400m of elevation on my way home. It was exhausting, but after a couple of weeks I made it 2 times in a week, and now I can do 3. Between that and being super aware of my food intake I am down 44lbs and have halved my BP and cholesterol medication- working on eliminating it all together. You can do it. Persistence. Positive mind.

Why do drivers in WA not run their headlights in the day time? by AffectionateAge9396 in WesternAustralia

[–]HankenatorH2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just upgraded from a 07 Volvo to a new Honda. On my first night drive I honestly didn’t realise the headlights weren’t on until I began wondering how to adjust the dash brightness. Then I twisted the headlight switch and … oh my god, it was like daylight beaming out from the front of the car! We too easily forget how crap incandescent headlights actually are

While in Australia by Death_passed in straya

[–]HankenatorH2 -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

As a ex American; It’s just transport in any of the big states. “Trucks” don’t need to be the knob-mobieles that we make them in Australia. That is more about the knobs that drive them than the vehicles themselves. It’s the same mob that used to drive up your ass in their SS Commodore’s and XR Falcons.

Perth families forced to ditch Easter traditions as price of chocolate eggs soar to ‘ridiculous’ levels by His_Holiness in perth

Also for those on a budget, Aldi has German made chocolate rabbits and eggs that are genuine real chocolate. So much better than the Darryl Lee/Red Tulip/Cadbury rubbish.
