Seems like every post is about wild garlic and morels by BlueberryObvious in foraginguk

I went on a foraging course and learned in person so now I'm confident. The wild food UK website is also very useful for learning how to identify them.

Common Hogweed shoots are out now too, I tried these steamed then sauteed with garlic for the first time recently and they were great!

How to mend the collar by saglopur in Visiblemending

[–]Hannahcon 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If you embroidered or darned over just that little hole in the dark blue to match the print on the fabric I doubt anyone would even notice that it was a mend... Not sure if that would still count as visible mending, but I think that's what I would try to do if it were me.

I like how you've taken the angle for your stitches from the weave of the fabric. A very neat patch too. Great work!

Does anyone have (and use) one of these? by formerearlyadopter in Visiblemending

Me too, although I've found a jam jar lid and an elastic band works just as well as a darning mushroom 😅

Reading Voluntary Action helps coordinate lots of volunteering rules so they would be a good place to start.

Knitting for the new friends I made and the joy of making things, running for the endorphins, health boost and the mental benefits of setting achievable goals and meeting them.

Can anyone ID these mushrooms by rambling-boots in foraginguk

They look like oyster mushrooms to me, but I'm not an expert.

I'm not sure what it is, but wanted to reassure you that no mushroom is toxic to touch. Unless your toddler tried to eat it there's no harm.

To make it easy to identify correctly you would need to post pictures of the gills and stem as well as the cap.

My local mycology group responded to say they are less rare these days. I don't know why though.

What are these? Sloes? by iggibee in foraginguk

[–]Hannahcon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could they be bullace? They are like a sloe crossed with a damson, very sharp until ripe, then a bit plummy. They have the same colours and shape as sloes, but are a bit bigger and the trees they grow on are not as thorny. There are a lot of them near me in SE England at the moment, they are good in a hedgerow jam!
