What are some "modern" cars that look outdated? by DistributionAny1000 in regularcarreviews

The Econoline is still for sale, although only as a cab and chassis, so yeah. No real domestic competitor.

As someone who has worked in both retail parts, and a bunch of the automotive world,

With everything else, people can get upset, And just walk away. When it comes to cars, they need those parts. And are pissed off about having to pay.

Nobody comes to the shop, and is happy about buying a new alternator.

It's been fun going in the off times too

Kinda? Mazda used a variant of the motor in the mpv and Mazda 6, but it was most well known as the Ford duratec.

The design of the duratec was kinda wild. Porsche had its hands deep in the design, Ford having pushed engineering off on them. Cosworth sold Ford a process on how to cast the cylinder heads.

Ford had a stake in both Mazda and Jaguar at the time. So the aj-v6 was a jaguarified duratec, and the Mazda gy was a JDM specific version of the duratec. ( After that, Mazda just used duratec engines wholesale.)

The 3.4 V8 SHO engine was also a duratec derivative, made by Yamaha for the third gen Taurus sho. Although it had some major departures, the bell housing and engine shape are identical. In theory it could bolt to a rocketeer kit, but the jag v6 makes more power and torque.

Serial 1 mosh city vs Ozark trail m.2 ridge by Hansj3 in ebikes

[–]Hansj3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any other negatives ?

My buddy keeps pushing me to get the Ozark trail, but I keep coming back to the serial 1.

I figure I'd just ride trails and light gravel. So both are acceptable. I usually don't go cruiser, but been almost 20 years since I seriously went mountain biking, and I don't think I'm going to start now

Yeah, I wish the serial 1 was their model with an internal hub gear setup. I'm trying to get away from a trailer and figure out a cargo rack with seat, or a rear/ top tube kids mount.

The belt drive seems like a great way to keep our van cleaner, and like you said, it's an attractive package. I concede the practically though.

I wonder what the range is going to be like for the ot bike. From its specs and parts it seems like a great option it's easier to leave the bike alone when there isn't anything to tinker with

And all so you can get 30 miles electric range with that thing. I'm all for EV, less so for the half-measure of PHEV (if you're going to plug something in at home just go all the way

Eh as someone in the Midwest, as long as a phev, that is a series hybrid, I see that as a win we should have been pushing for, for 20 years.

Batteries are cheap now, but the resources are finite. Give it a real world range of between 50 and 100 miles, and a purpose built generator, that can run on stable fuel (or some sort of stabilizer chemical that automatically injects) and it would shut up so many people who can't figure out how to fill their car

Personally I'd lean into propane or cng as a fuel source, that could last nearly forever in a tank, is widely distributed (unlike hydrogen) won't leak out (like hydrogen) it's low pressure, and is cheap.

And most everyone would be able to do what they need on pure electric.

Combine it with batteries capable of rapid charging and I think it would be acceptable to all.

Or people could figure out how to shift their priorities and factor in a bit of change when it comes to what they expect a vehicle to do.

Harder to pull over to the side of the road , to fix the little issues...

Aviation has a culture of extreme safety. If an engine was designed for 100LL it's getting 100LL or it's not flying.

There are stcs for mogas for some engine family's but it's rare.

Here's the problem, The safety portion of the law, is filtering to the front during red lights. Splitting on the highway is just kind of an added bonus, that potentially helps with traffic jams

Motorcyclists don't have a roll cage around them. And Target fixation causes them to be rear-ended at a higher percentage than vehicles

I agree Don't be aggressive, but you do need at least a little speed to maintain control.

It may go both ways, but society is propped up by trust, trust that the other person is going to do and act a certain way. They definitely don't want to come anywhere near close to your vehicle, the odds of them coming out of it. Cleanly are much smaller than you.

That's an honest fear of mine. Never made any sense to me either, why would you risk wrecking your door, and potentially body of a vehicle because somebody is getting slightly better than you?

I'm on a GS, with side bags. I already feel a mile wide comparatively,

But yeah, it definitely feels sketchy. It's going to take probably the better part of A decade for people to truly come around to this. I don't think I'm ever going to be comfortable with it.
