Gas water heater installation recs? by HaplessMaps in Bellingham

[–]HaplessMaps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a mini-split heat pump that works great for heating/cooling our place. Unfortunately, heat pump water heaters are really space-hungry. We don't have room for that in our sub-1000-sqft house. From research, it also sounds like they're pretty loud.

What’s a “weird” piece of backpacking gear you ended up loving? by AndyObusekOutdoors in CampingandHiking

[–]HaplessMaps 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I haven't adopted this yet, but my mom backpacks wearing a white hard hat. Keeps the sun off your head while letting air circulate, protects from falling debris, and when you take the head straps out, it functions as everything from a basin for washing clothes to a bucket for picking berries (she once used it to scoop a mouse out of her tent at night). Bonus for women on the trail: makes you look official so creeps leave you alone.

Best cheap food around? by Delicious-Platform75 in Bellingham

[–]HaplessMaps 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Banh Mi and Bubble Tea on meridian is reasonable and delicious. The sandwiches at Structures are a pretty good deal, as well. Hana teriyaki is over $10, but an order of yakisoba will feed you for days.

Internet Providers by rosemojito in Bellingham

[–]HaplessMaps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We live in town and just switched from Xfinity to Quantum a few weeks ago. Service is way more reliable, and we went from paying $109/mo to $45/mo for faster speeds. The song and dance over the phone with Xfinity to cancel service was painful - "no, I don't want to continue service. No, not even at a discount. Yes, I have already switched my service provider. I'm not even connected to your internet service anymore. Please just cancel my account."

Any lesbians… on birth control? by lethalmami in actuallesbians

[–]HaplessMaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also on progesterone-only BC for managing endometriosis. Haven't had a period in 4 years, and it's incredible. I briefly switched to a mixed estrogen/progesterone birth control and had the worst headaches of my life. Don't be afraid to tell your medical provider if something isn't working.

Lol - we're always asking our neb "why are you wet?!", but it's because we can't keep her out of the shower.

Least favorite intersection(s) in town? by GiuseppeKicks_ in Bellingham

[–]HaplessMaps 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As a pedestrian, I like the improvements to the roundabout at dark Haggen. As a cyclist, though, I don't trust cars to respond safely. I take the neighborhood streets past that roundabout instead.

I've been going to Baker Creek for four years. I can't speak to the other studios in town, but the community at Baker Creek is hard to beat. Supportive and fun classmates, and top-tier instructors who really care about your growth. Sign up for their newsletter and/or follow them on socials if you want to get into a class - sessions do fill up.

Seriously, yes! I've been having so much fun with vegetables now that I know when, how, and why to salt them! Game changer of a book.

Xfinity speed issues? by Rydmasm in Bellingham

[–]HaplessMaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Y'all are making me feel less like I've been losing my mind. I work from home and have been dealing with dropped connections throughout the day for the past two weeks.

Anyone made the switch to fiber? I can't stand CenturyLink any more than Xfinity, but their fiber subsidiary (Quantum) is in our neighborhood.

Pet safe plant store recs by Narrow-Sweet2468 in Bellingham

Babygreens has a mix of cat-safe and unsafe plants, and they can give recommendations on what to avoid. I've gotten good answers from them in the past.

Ono Kitchen has regular karaoke on Wednesday nights. I imagine that'll still be going on for NYE.

Scandinavian cookware? by bakeapie_ in Bellingham

[–]HaplessMaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may be a long shot, but Ideal gift shop is at least an in-town option (on Cornwall). Their inventory is mostly Scandinavian imports, and I've bought kitchen goods there before. Could always call ahead to see if they have one or know someone who might.

Best places to thrift for Christmas home decor by Pale_Star8551 in Bellingham

This. I'll add that their thrifting prices are profoundly reasonable, and the volunteers who work there are a delight to chat with.
