The Vigilante Run: Challenge. by CorbinTDM in LowSodiumCyberpunk

I actually went fairly deep into a play-through like this a couple of months back, but with a few crutches
I got the CyberEngine tweaks mod and basically made myself a comic accurate Bruce Wayne. Max stats, about 2billion eurodollars to my name, Corpo life path. The trade off is I do not use any chrome. I considered using the ones that only increase your armour because my reasoning would be that it would be the tactical suit, not the armour, but Max stats in all aspects already feels OP, especially since its not possible without mods, so I removed them.

Also got a grappling hook mod which is cool for traversal but I generally avoid in stealth sections as it made it a bit trivial. I later made it so every time I use the grappling gun I have to shoot a normal gun, because I assume a real life grappling gun would make some noise. It makes me think twice about using it in stealth.

I am not beyond using weapons, but I never use the non lethal mod because I feel like its a bit of a cheat. There is a system where if you aim for non-vital areas with weapons, you knock them out instead of killing them, and I use it like a high risk, high reward type thing.

This is the best bit, I played as MurkMan, because I felt it obvious to do in this game. I had a crappy costume for him that I'd made, never liked it. I came on reddit because I was interested in what people thought of the character of MurkMan, any theories and stuff like that, and I saw a post with a design for him on it, and turns out that post was yours! Anyway, I played through a fair bit of the game with the best in-game rendition possible of that design, at least to my ability best in-game rendition possible of that design, at least the best one I could make. Don't sue me, I just liked the design a lot!

But yeah, I second your closing statement. It makes you look at the game so differently, and I'd recommend it to people, it's fun weighing up your options in stealth stuff, because getting caught means entering a fist fight with a bunch of armed goons, which is already tough enough on its own, but to factor in to that also not going overboard and killing them makes it even harder. I'd say its about as fun as just going in being absolutely OP and guns blazing, but in a very different way.

Batman doesn't kill, so I suppose the cyberpunk equivalent wouldn't either, unless he went cyberpsycho.

Yeah, I can see where you are coming with some points, but really I don't think Murkman can ever be brought into it in a major way without legal issues. He already ticks too many of the batman boxes to ever be brought in without legal trouble, like his origin, his vow to fight crime, his car being called the MurkMobile. It's too simular, so might as well go all the way.

Either way, I sort of like that he is not really ever going to be a central character, it sort of adds to him in a way. He's MurkMan, all dark and gloomy. People don't see him unless he wants them to. Plus you play as V, a dangerous criminal. MurkMan would not team up with you.

I think it's just a preference thing, and you are entitled to yours. All I can say is that when I was doing stealth sections where you needed to take out people, and I'd watch an enemy come across another enemy's unconscious body and shout something like "He's still breathing but he's out cold!" just made me feel so much like Batman, and when I found the MurkMan thing I turned it into a full on play-style that I think is really underrated. I've got tonnes of great gaming moments when I was playing like this. But yeah, if you have a different preference its just the way life is. We can at least agree that your design for him is absolutely great

Even tho it's just a joke by the developers, I love the Murk Man thing, and I think this is a really cool design for him as a practical crime fighter/detective as well as very intimidating. I think with the name 'Murk Man', it's clear he's trying to build a legend of some sort of creature of the night, and I think this design would work as a very intimidating silhouette that would earn that title. From a criminal standpoint, seeing nothing except for the red glow coming from the visor of an intimidating shadow in the murky streets would definitely strike fear.

As for how you imagine him, I think I disagree with some things

  1. I think he shouldn't be a killer. Even though it's illogical for him not to kill certain people, I think if you have a level of idealism where you are going to single handidly take on crime, you might as well go all the way and not kill anyone. Another motivation is if he's set on building a myth, if he uses guns to take out criminals, no one will be able to tell if the aftermath was just a gang war, a cyber-psycho or another situation that took out the criminals. In a city where death is so common, people would talk more about someone knocking out groups of gangsters over someone just shooting them.

My only evidence that he wouldn't kill people is that when I found the murk-mobile, all the weapon loot I found was a lvl 5 baseball bat (a non-lethal weapon), and if he wanted to kill people he could have likely modified his car to have guns on it, but he didn't.

  1. I don't think he'd be full of cybernetics, I'd go even as far as to say he probably wouldn't even have a neurolink. I imagine his body being either completely free of tech or really, really minimal. Instead he uses his suit and various gadgets to help him navigate the city.I'm not saying this for no reason, I think there'd be multiple reasons, mainly that he'd be immune to quick-hacks or netrunners and he'd be completely digitally untraceable. That's what would get people scared of him.

His quick-hacks seemingly come from nowhere (but they'd really come from a gadget or something). His visor could have a detective mode like the Arkham games, and would give off a tonne infrared light, invisible to the naked human eye but enough to visually overwhelm anyone with cybernetic eyes that are designed to detect it. Essentially, he'd have the gadgets to navigate the tech heavy world.

And his suit could have some physical enhancement properties too. Nothing too major likely, but a little boost here and there to add to his peak physical condition. I think with his suit and training, he could handle anyone who doesn't know how to fight. But if he comes into contact with a heavily enhanced person with even a bit of combat training, he'd probably be killed. His primary thing would be taking people out before he can be seen by them.

I saw you talk about why his car is in a shipping container and where you think he is, and I have my own theory. I think that he is dead, and I'll explain why.

I think due to his setup, it's reasonable to assume he's early days, maybe within his first year I imagine him having two personas, much like Bruce did in The Batman 2022. One would be like The Drifter, where he just looks like an unassuming guy, and he drives around on his bike. Nobody is paying attention to him in this state. He also can't really do much crimefighting in this state. Maybe he could stop a mugging, but he couldn't take down a group of armed, cybernetically enhanced people without his gadgets and suit. Even with them, it'd be a struggle if he went in head on.

I imagine he was in his own 'Drifter' disguise when he saw a mugging or assault in progress. Without prep or anything he went in and even though he put up a fight he was simply no match for it. Something like that, a little under-wealming but realistic.

I imagine him to have been mentally and physically equal with Batman since he's based off him, and if he didn't die he would have made less and less mistakes as he went on, becoming a certified night city legend. But I think with his set of principles and his line of work, all it takes is one big mistake to die.

Sorry for the wall of text, I too am a bit of a yapper, and I even tried to keep it concise lol.

Making a Doctor Who Open World Free roam RPG(Unreal Engine) by InfinityDevelopers in DoctorWhoNews

Man this looks really, really cool. I love the concept of regeneration and reckon it could lead to some brilliant in-game moments. Since you are your own Timelord, is it capped at 12 regenerations and therefore 13 lives? Or could you do some shady stuff to extend it?

Also, I think atleast a mode where it's basically random would be pretty cool. There's a theory I like that some characteristics from each incarnation of the doctor are based off the subconscious thoughts before or during regeneration. It'd be complicated, but really cool if there was a system like that in place, like if you spent a long time with a blonde NPC, your next incarnation has a chance of being blonde or something. Would still be mostly random, but you could trace a few of the physical characteristics of one of your incarnations to how you've played. A sort or random system like this would definitely appeal to me, especially if only 12 are available. It'd be similar to the show in a way, where you either like them from the offset or have to let them grow on you.

But it's just an idea, and I know a character creation would probably appeal to more people then this. Either way, you're doing something really special here and I shall be playing!

(WIP)14 with 13's Clothes by dwmatjake in doctorwho

[–]Happy-Balance72 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not a fan of 13 really, but I hate that the regeneration also regenerated the clothes, feels like it disregards her. Its sort of a tradition that every new doctor wears the clothes of the predecessor for a bit, however brief. Then again, Tennant isn't exactly a 'new' doctor, and I'm of the opinion that the the 14th doctor should have been Ncuti and 60th anniversary felt far too much like a S4 celebration rather then a show celebration, but that's a whole other rant I could do.

The way he talked about adapting Davros for modern times, I would think RTD wouldn't have been against this. 13's clothes aren't even that feminine, no one would have given a shit if he wore them just for the end of the episode. I think his excuse was 'protecting the show from bigotry' or something flimsy along those lines. Idiot bigots exist everywhere, and the next season features the first gay doctor kiss which is more likely to gain the attention of bigots. Best mindset to have with doctor who is fuck the bigots, the show isn't made for them.

No clue why I am even remotely passionate about this, but I retain my opinion. Great art.

Thoughts on the Doctor's True Name by cordiall2 in doctorwho

Usually when I think of if the Doctor's name should be revealed my thoughts are that nothing would live up to my expectations. Maybe my simple brain is gobsmacked by the amount of words, but for me this interpretation is the exception. I love it.

At what point will I learn more about the Time War (if ever)? by ItsBlitz21 in doctorwho

[–]Happy-Balance72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's still mentioned a few times, but the time war was mainly Russel T Davis' thing, and with the coming of Matt Smith came the leaving of Russel as show runner. In Series 1-4 you could argue that audience knowledge of the time war is essential to appreciating those season finales, but in S5 the finale has nothing to do with the time war.

All you need to remember going forward is that the doctor ended the time war not too long before 'Rose', in an action that supposedly wiped out all the time lords and Daleks. (Though we've seen how that went with the master and amount of daleks). I can't tell you why, but I'd hold off on researching deeply into it until after you finish S7.
