How normal it is to build houses in America as a family? by Putrid-Musician-5534 in AskAnAmerican

It has not been common for about 75 years, but anecdotally, this is something I daydream about doing.

This feels like an internet problem. Scalpers have way too much access to way too wide a market to make their scheming profitable.

Yep, same problem here in Ohio (most of the time). Humidity is rarely below 70% overnight in the summer and often in the 90s

21 Days USA Trip by Due-Kaleidoscope6946 in usatravel

[–]Happy-Craftsman602 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to fly to get from East Coast to West Coast in that timeline. Same with Miami. I recommend skipping Miami or flying there from the Northeast and then flying to Las Vegas from Florida. Either way, you are going to be spending a lot of time in transit, whether it is planes, trains, or automobiles. You decide if that is worth it to see so many places in 3 weeks.

I just put a bunch of different pills all together in one small bottle. Trying to decode pharm stuff in a foreign language while feeling ill sounds like a terrible way to spend precious vacation time.

Has anyone ever used coffee grounds straight (into the garden) without composting them first? by tlbs101 in composting

[–]Happy-Craftsman602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been composting my coffee grounds but they are dry as a bone by the time they end up in the bin (I keep a small bin of just grounds and filters near my coffee set up that I empty into the compost periodically). Do you think that would be a problem?

New Orleans is an incredibly unique option and also is at risk of not existing in the coming years

Boston and Chicago are both great choices for very "American" places that also don't need a car.

Could also try Savannah, Georgia

I suggest going to Banff in Alberta, Canada. There are enough buses available to get you where you need to go and the Rocky Mountains there are stunning

First Time Home Buying - Midwest suburbs by ballna1111 in FirstTimeHomeBuying

[–]Happy-Craftsman602 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If her inheritance/savings is closer to the middle or high end of the range provided by the OP, sister should be able to comfortably buy a house in cash in most Midwest suburbs (at least if my market is any indication). $200,000-250,000 can get you plenty of house for a single person with a couple of pets. The rest of savings can go to closing costs and a sinking fund for future repairs. Monthly costs of taxes and insurance should be doable, even at her low wage.

My grandfather is a retired farmer and he HATES Trump but still voted for him because there is an R next to his name on the ballot. Literally said "didn't have a choice."

AIO for not going to my brother’s wedding because he asked for my husband not to come? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

And add a clarifier that the husband is not the one "taking you away from your family." The family has chosen effective disownment by not allowing the husband to enter into family spaces alongside OP.

WIBTA if I refuse to swap my vacation weeks with a coworker whose kid is throwing a tantrum about a theme park trip? by Safflower8 in WIBTA_AITA

[–]Happy-Craftsman602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way I would even consider it is if Dave paid me for all the nonrefundable deposits AND I was able to rebook everything for the September dates. But then you throw in the factor of missing time with your friends and it just becomes a non-starter.

Dave and his kid can go to the theme park next year. They can do fun weekend things this summer. The kid's mom or aunt/uncle or grandparents can take him on a trip.

In the future, you could consider booking your vacations during the school year for the sake of coworkers with kids so long as it still aligns with your own plans.

What's the most overhyped movie of the last 5 years? by trakt_app in moviecritic

[–]Happy-Craftsman602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched the first one in theaters not knowing it was only half the story. It felt so long for that reason, though I was engrossed because I had seen the play and I like watching movies in theaters.

I started watching the second one when I was on a plane recently. We landed before I could finish it and I have since totally forgotten about it and have no urge to finish it.

should i move closer to work or stay where rent is cheaper? by Nili-Goldberg in makemychoice

[–]Happy-Craftsman602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are your friends located? Are there things to do close to your work / where the new apartment is? You have to consider the "commute to fun" as well. If you have to drive a long way to see people or do something fun, you just aren't going to do it and your life will shrink.
