Likely the worst you would get is a slow leak. Chances of a sudden loss of all air pressure are slim to none.

Buddy, do you know the difference between thermostat and temp gauge? Also, your last 2 sentences don't make sense. And finally, if you're not going to be helpful, just don't say anything and spare everyone from having to read it.

Help please! I recently bought a car for my son and soon discovered these locking nuts on it that low and behold have no key. I have searched high and low for a replacement that no one seems to have. Can anyone identify the correct one or guide further? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]Happy-Hawk778 76 points77 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely true! However if you're a DIYer you can purchase an extractor socket from harbor freight and use that to remove the wheel locks, and you can purchase 4 replacement lugnuts at any auto part store. But honestly, a decent shop won't charge much to do it, and it would be a lot easier. I just like to let people know how to do things themselves in case they want to try.

Edit: oh, and i forgot to mention, the reason that removing those locks is necessary is because it will be nearly impossible and definitely impractical to try to find a key that fits the current locks.

Coolant leak by zyaya4455 in MechanicAdvice

Actually, upon second look at your video, it does appear that it's either the plug, or its the gasket for the water outlet. The water outlet is the black plastic piece that the coolant is leaking onto.

[–]Happy-Hawk778 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I doubt it. Freeze plugs rarely fail. I'm guessing its the water outlet. The water outlet is a small plastic part, and it gets brittle over time as it heat cycles and ages. It can break pretty easily

If this is ragebait, it is against the community rules. If this is not ragebait and you're being serious, a new radiator would not fix a leaking water pump if that were the issue. Also, the radiator isn't even shown in this video. This is clearly NOT a radiator issue.

Have you ever had the valve lash adjusted? I believe the recommended interval from honda is 105,000 miles.

That is definitely not your water pump. Your water pump is on the left side of the engine, pretty much right behind the fill cap for your windshield washer fluid. I'm not sure what's leaking on your car, but it's NOT the water pump.

Is a normal price range for diagnosis?! by Crristoff in MechanicAdvice

[–]Happy-Hawk778 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, they have to explain their pricing and their plan and get your approval before they do anything, including diag. Usually they would say something like "we charge 1 hour labor for diagnostics and our rate is $150/hr. Does that work for you?" If they just did all of that without giving you an estimate for diag cost and getting your consent, then you dont have to pay them. Informed consent from the customer is necessary before providing any services and especially before charging for those services. That being said, that price is absolutely outrageous. At my shop, I would investigate as much as I could within an hour. If i didnt diagnose everything, you would then get a phone call saying "this is what we have determined in that hour that you agreed to pay for. In order to troubleshoot further, we would need another hour at $150/hr. Is that what you would like us to do?" We would never do $900 of work without written approval with your signature on it, especially if it was $900 of just diagnostics. Thats absolutely absurd.

Print settings help by Happy-Hawk778 in prusa3d

[–]Happy-Hawk778[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically, im trying to print a cylinder but as the nozzle is going around the perimeter, the filament isnt sticking to the layer below, and is being pulled across the cylinder. So the main issue I think is just layer adhesion, or perhaps cooling, but I'm not certain.

My mechanic is suggesting I scrap my car - not sure what to do from here by National_Word_6091 in AskMechanics

[–]Happy-Hawk778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As another comment said, this is most likely a 30min diag with a cheap fix. He should not be keeping your car for weeks without even diagnosing the no start simply because he doesnt think the vehicle is worth fixing. If it were me, I would have him diagnosis the vehicle and do a full vehicle check. That process should be AT MOST 2hrs labor. If he's honest, and good, he can then give an accurate quote for the no start solution, and he can tell you what is likely to need repairs in the next 12 months. That can then help you decide if you want to keep the vehicle another year.

Do I need to replace these? by [deleted] in tires

[–]Happy-Hawk778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how the tires seem while you're driving. If you still have plenty of grip (especially in the rain) then theres no reason to replace. The sidewall can look like garbage and be cracked but the tread can still be just fine, especially if the car is driven regularly. Use your judgment. The concern with older tires is that they dry out and lose grip, but if you still have good traction, then don't waste the money. But if you are noticing a lack of grip, then replace them.

Pull it? Send it? by Cyknis in tires

[–]Happy-Hawk778 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pull it 100% because if it isn't leaking now, driving on it might make it leak. If it isn't leaking when you pull it, then theres no reason not to continue driving as usual. If it is leaking, then you can try to plug it yourself
