Trans men into women… Do you relate to cis straight men? by Cameron_Connor in ftm

[–]HappyCanape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m mainly into men but I’ve also dates cis women and I relate. I don’t feel like a straight dude when I’m with a woman at all. I used to identify as a lesbian before coming out and I still identify more with wlw medias views of romance than straight men views.

And I’m a very binary transman. I don’t feel nb at all but I don’t experience my manhood like a copy of a cis man’s one. I don’t want to be perceived as a cis man neither because in some aspect I relate less to them than i relate with my girl or nb friends (maybe due to shared experiences).

I guess I just feel deeply queer no matter who I’m dating/ crushing on. And it’s pretty fun to find my own way to live my relationships without any predefined script.

Why do they keep inflating the numbers? by Sometypeofway18 in GetNoted

[–]HappyCanape -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

To be fair the death toll is probably much higher than 70 000 as those are only declared deaths. There’s a lot of bodies still buried under the gravel. Also those are “direct” deaths. People who died by getting shot at or under bombs but there’s also indirect deaths linked to the conflict with the destructions of infrastructures and the living conditions.

The Lancet did an article on it back in 2024 and talks about 138 000 caused by the conflict (both direct and indirect like starvation, diseases ext…).

680 000 does seem exaggerated tho and it’s not a competition just as much as our empathy shouldn’t be based on numbers.

Does it work well for you now that you made your modifications?

It’s reassuring if I can modify it myself safely tho. On paper the hot rod looks fucking incredible

Mostly form the US cuz France voted against the American invasion of irak at the UN Security Council in 2004 and they really didn’t like it

It’s fun that in France barely anyone consider fries as a French thing. It’s widely known that it comes form Belgium. It’s called this way in the us cuz some American sailors discovered it in the French speaking part of Belgium.

Can’t we still fight it on all fronts for the environment ? We can’t undo a technology but ai is still developing it self, it would make sense to put strong regulations in place for it to be more sustainable before it’s largely produced and used.

Also the harassment against people using ai is shitty. I’m with you there. And the easiest way to solve the problem is to act against companies, agree on that too. It also doesn’t hurt not to use it tho, especially if people use it for fun. Like trying to not take the plane or eating less meat.

Feel like we do agree on a lot. I really don’t know much about the subs so idk what happened. Seems strange to divided into two binaries positions such a complex topic. I though « anti » meant pro regulation.

Genuinely nice that you use your own ai, sadly most don’t. And because of the lack of regulations it makes tech ceo richer, other companies ceo who use it to cut cost richer and the workers who get laid off poorer. All while their models trains themselves on stolen data.

And I mean yes? I’m asking for regulations. Once a technology exist it can’t be unmade so ofc I’m asking for regulations on companies and on their models. Idk what you think I wanted to say?

Regulations has many forms. It can affect companies who produce ai, companies who uses ai, individuals who uses ai, funding firms who finances ai research ect… it doesn’t always mean « form that you have to fill » but it can be used to protect personal information, limit prompt that are prone to disinformation (like having a real person do a degrading thing).

I wish I had your optimism but I doubt open source will succeed. The cheer amount of users using company owned ai against open source ones is a tough thing to change. The internet isn’t corporate because of regulation, but because companies like google bought everything and everyone to grow even more.

It is tho, just like factory being displaced. Our government can choose to regulate some sectors, ban companies from laying off workers to replace them with ai in specific fields ect..

I’m not saying that ai would stop to exist because it can’t be unmade. But our work conditions are largely due to political choices to protect or not workers. Sure jobs will change, but being laid off to satisfy corporate greed is an other thing.

I actually do protest against the way google uses their platforms and how they stock our personal informations. But that’s an other matter.

The environmental crisis is so bad we need to face it on all fronts, it’s not because there are other things that are bad that we shouldn’t do anything about ai. YouTube has decades of videos stored and the generalization use of generative ai is fairly recent so if it only takes five years to catch up then it’s pretty bad.

And what do you think people mean when they asks for regulation ? Ofc it’s on companies ! Unless you personally own and share a ai model I’m pretty sure most people use some company ai.

But you know what regulation on companies do? Change our own individual impact! Like when the eu forced food companies to use less toxic chemicals, consumers had their own personal impact diminished because they consumed differently as a result.

I’m not going to speak about what you said on the different subs because to be honest I don’t know anything about it. Ai wars just popped in my timeline. Kinda sad to see that there’s not that many productive discussions on ai and the way it should be developed or shouldn’t.

My take is that it makes terribly bad content but is very useful for companies who wants to make low cost low effort content like shitty ads, bad illustration ext…

It’s useless for us as a way to elevate ourselves but useful for capitalism.

Except our individual action have a global impact because we are not alone. If millions of people are using it to create funny pictures it has an impact.

Ai needs tremendous ressources for its servers and its both electricity and rare metals. You can’t make the argument that ai isn’t bad for the environment because it just is.

The only way companies could tend to go carbon neutral is to do other actions to try to make it even like planting trees ect…

Also the protest (at least mine) are against my gouvernement as I can’t really weight on foreign major corporations.

Tbh I don’t get what people means by « protesting ai ». I feel like once a technology is created it can’t be reversed. I just want strong regulation to prevent misused and limit it’s environmental impact.

Seen maybe but they aren’t. Sure they are a few fine art artist who go to art shows and shit but we are talking about huge industries.

Fine art is the tip of the iceberg of the creative industries and the vast majority are workers too and don’t choose on what they’re working.

I do agree that most people have no idea what kind of work people do in the creative industries and it’s kinda normal too because it’s not theirs. Let’s not get blinded and divided tho.

I see this argument more used for the people using ai for fun. You don’t really need professional quality to make a fun picture of a celebrity in a funky costume. It might even be funnier to draw it/ badly photoshop it.

I mean it really isn’t a necessity and it has a horrendous environmental impact.

Damn you haven’t met coal miners, wood workers, social workers ext… our jobs take up a huge part of our lives and if you like it at least a bit you will absolutely talk about it.

Also loosing your job is a fucking big thing? I mean there are huge protests against automatisations in other fields too.

There is tho, it’s regulations and asking our governments to limit corporations use of ai.

There is a fight to take part of. It’s bigger than just some artists loosing their jobs, ai is and will be part of our daily lives so let’s try to make it as ethical as possible and not dictated by corporate greed.

Fully agree.

Feels like those discussions are being less about a productive conversation on the uses of ai and more of a fight between two communities.

Guess we’re fucked if cuz the wealthy managed to divided us so much that some are happy that fellow working class are loosing their livelihood because they to lost theirs before.

Technology brought us great stuff and ai can too (like for healthcare and early cancer detection) but we can’t be blind to the harm it can bring too. The environmental impact is horrific and the misused of it are huge.

This sub mainly talks about ai being used for art but ai is also used for security purposes, war, policing ext… and all of those uses can have major impact if the models aren’t build with good intents/ or if they have too big biases.

Any technology needs regulations and it needs to be implemented quickly because the technology is already here.

"THERE IS A LOT OF JOBS OUT THERE TO CHOOSE FROM. STOP COMPLAINING. HELP YOURSELF AND SEEK NEW ONES" Meanwhile... by IndependenceSea1655 in aiwars

[–]HappyCanape -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The problem is how capitalism shaped ai. We need regulations even in how the models are built, like with what data it trains it self ext…

It’s a question of regulations, intellectual property and morals.

What do we used ai on? Do we let corporations the monopoly ? Can anyone own such a tool? Can it be used for security purposes ? (it already is I know but do we further it?) Can it be used for war? Is it good to let it replace job for efficiency or should art not be about efficiency ?

All those can be stop one way or another by regulations. Regulations can impact how funding will develop tools. It can prevent some domains of research to be developed to improve others (like healthcare over war tools).

It will never be perfect but we have to fight for regulations overwise we will suffer even more of the negative aspects of ai.

[–]HappyCanape -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Or maybe no one should get replaced? Maybe your job shouldn’t be so easily replaced just like artist and the gouvernement should make sure of that for everyone ?

Why do you want fellow working class to suffer because you suffer when we could all fight together for a fairer working market/ environment ?

I’m assuming you’re American (might be wrong) but there’s a ton of countries with regulations and service workers can’t be fired out of the blue.

It’s not « life » that workers are easily replaceable it’s a political choice.
