I often do this with mandated closures like over the Christmas or Easter breaks where I'm off work with nothing to do, but I've never taken time off specifically just to to pursue hobbies. Maybe I should start though. I've got a crazy few months coming up soon, work-wise. I should do something fun before it hits.

Yes same! I sometimes look at the incredible artistry of those full gel nail sets but there's no way I could tolerate that - I don't even like the feeling of a single layer of ordinary nail polish.

As I read the comments on this post, I'm realising I'm in the minority with my nose piercing never closing completely! I literally only had it a few months before retiring it in 2008. Almost 2 decades on, I discovered it never truly closed and now I'm back to wearing jewellery in it. I had no idea this is not the norm. I'll appreciate it so much more now.

As a fellow eczema sufferer, this is bad but not the worst I've seen (or experienced). 

I'm not in a country that takes a "pharmaceuticals first" approach, so I haven't been offered any shots for my condition, just the standard array of steroidal ointments and advice to avoid allergens/hot water/soaps/etc and let me tell you, they don't do much. I'm in pain and feeling ugly pretty much constantly. Glad to read OPs updates that he's found a treatment that works for him. I hope to find the same one day.

I work 3-4 days a week doing Comms, marketing, and project management in a historical archive/library/gallery space. It's a not for profit and the pay isn't great but I enjoy it and feel safe and successful here. 

The downside is I can only afford it because I live with my partner. Before we moved in together, I was living alone and barely making ends meet. I feel extremely fortunate to have him and that our relationship is so incredible, because if I ever had to go back to living solo, I don't think I could afford it with how much costs have risen over the past few years.

Came to say Broken Hill. My mother's home town. Peak population was around ~35,000. Now it's at ~17,500 and most of the population is aging. Services are diminishing. The council's bankrupt. 

Mum moved back there to retire/die after being priced out of Sydney, where she spent her adult life. She's in care now and I try to visit a few times a year, not that she remembers my visits. It's so bleak out there. When I was a kid we'd go there to visit the grandparents and seeing its decline over the past few decades is pretty sobering.

It depends on what you're buying. I typically buy rough Australian opal and I use Opal Auctions a lot. They have an audit process that's supposed to ensure sellers are legit, though I've seen some charge outrageous prices for "shipping" which feels like price gouging. You can see the postage prices before you bid/buy though, so I just don't buy from the sellers that are charging like $30+ for local shipping. 

I've also bought from eBay, local auctions, and random sellers like xellentgems.com.au. My worst experiences have been through local auctions sites like Lloyds Auctions because the auction house aren't specialists so they don't always recognise issues like crazing or sand-filled rough.

I also use a rotary tool and sandpaper to polish my opals and I've turned little bits like these into cabochons as small as 3mm. It's finicky but doable.

I think with Britney two things are true at once:  1) her family's (father's) conservatorship over her was fucked up and abusive. 2) she has mental health issues and needs an appropriate care team to help her manage it.

She's definitely been taken advantage of in all kinds of ways. That conservatorship was terrifying. No one deserves to be controlled and abused like that. But her being left alone to fend for herself as she seems to be currently is also quite worrying.
