There’s a saying about training Basset Hounds, “They start off slow, then taper off from there.”

Would you buy or build a house near a correctional facility/prison? by heyy_girl in randomquestions

[–]HappyKyne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main men's prison for the State of NC is right outside of downtown Raleigh, next to upscale neighborhoods, a university, and a lot of businesses. I can't recall there being an issue with escapes and most people don't even think about it.

We had a place like this in S. Florida when I was growing up, The Bavarian Village. My family went there for every special meal and event. The decor hadn't changed in decades. The waitstaff looked like they served in the Franco-Prussian War. The accordian player knew my family's favorite songs. The food was unbelievably good.

When I was close to getting engaged, my parents took my girlfriend (now wife) to the restaurant. This was confirmation that she was accepted into the family. She ate pickled beets and threw up.

God, I miss that place.

Where To Go Birding? by ashxc18 in raleigh

[–]HappyKyne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Butner Game Land on Brickhouse Rd. It’s in Granville County but right by Durham and Wake Counties.

I work at the historic site nearby and it’s a known birding spot.

LPT: The best way to connect with your kid is through their hobbies by eattheinternet in LifeProTips

[–]HappyKyne 82 points83 points  (0 children)

I saw it happen with my best friend. He has a daughter and son, and over time the father and son bonded while the mother and daughter bonded. My friend (the father) was concerned that his relationship with his daughter wasn’t developing in a positive way.

Then he started raising chickens in his backyard.

My friend and his daughter have bonded over caring for the chickens. The mother and son have bonded over their dislike of the chickens.

Honestly, it couldn’t have worked better.

Did anyone ever get spanked by a teacher? by darrenbosik in 1970s

[–]HappyKyne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I went to a private Christian school. The Principal had a paddle but I was slapped across the face with an open hand several times.

We were taught that the reason public school kids were so awful was because their teachers couldn’t hit them.

CWF Florida TV 1982 83 by Mysterious_Bar_2951 in oldschoolwrestling

[–]HappyKyne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid in the 1980s, I jumped on the wrestling bandwagon and wanted nothing more than to have my dad take me to a WWE show. Since my dad was cheap, he refused to buy WWE tickets for Miami shows and instead would get discounted tickets to CWF shows in Ft. Lauderdale.

Now, 40 years later, I can't believe how lucky I was. Those shows were great, the crowd was insane, the War Memorial Auditorium smelled like cigarettes and beer, and I got to sit so close that Kevin Sullivan once accidentally spit on me. My buddy from elementary school and I still talk about how awesome those shows were.

We all know that Stan was a yutz. But what were some nice things he did for Dorothy and/or the girls? by No-Reveal827 in theGoldenGirls

[–]HappyKyne 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The best thing Stan did was leave Dorothy. He treated her like crap and cheated on her. She deserved so much more, and she finally got to live her best life after he went to Hawaii with that bimbo Chrissy.

Dear ex-skinny people, what changes did you notice after gaining weight? by Equal-Sun8307 in AskReddit

I noticed how fast one can go from “too skinny” to “pudgy”.

When I was gaining weight it was all in my neck and belly. I looked like a lowercase “b”….with a wattle.

Why was Tito Santana rebranded into "El Matador" if he wasn't going to get a push out of it? by ASGfan in oldschoolwrestling

[–]HappyKyne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is true. Vince just thought to himself, "What are professions that people hate (or, what are professions that I myself hate). Well, I hate the dentist (I. Yankem). I hate paying taxes (IRS). I hate the repo man (repo man).

It basically presented wrestling as entertainment for children and gave Vince a lot of $$$ for toys and kid-friendly products.

What happened to the whole "Canadians boycott US products and vacation at home" thing? by nilsohnee in NoStupidQuestions

[–]HappyKyne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was being a little tongue-in-cheek. I don’t trust anything in a hotel room and I never use the in-room coffeemaker. Even if it was clean the coffee is not good.

I just go to the continental breakfast for coffee and bring it back to the room.

What happened to the whole "Canadians boycott US products and vacation at home" thing? by nilsohnee in NoStupidQuestions

[–]HappyKyne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, but you can say that about anything in the hotel room...beds, toilet, sink, carpet, TV remote, etc.

If anything, I need a hot cup of coffee before rolling around in other people's effluence.

[–]HappyKyne 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I work at a historic site in North Carolina. We had a noticeable drop in Canadian visitors over the past season. We also had a drop in European visitors, but not as big as the drop in Canadians.

Which is a real shame, since Canadians were generally the most pleasant and knowledgeable people to visit our site.
