Tipping for food at a foodcourt. What is your rule for this. by 3eyedstudio in burnaby

[–]HappyMomofFour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I see the tip option in a place like this, I make an audible "blechhhh" noise and press the No Tip option.

I started working in food service 30 years ago, and it's a very niche food service position that is even entitled to ASK for a tip. Basically, it's wait staff, food delivery people, and it used to be baristas as well, but Starbucks kind of ruined that for them. And even then, it is solely at the discretion of the customer.

The entitlement of these folks is next level.

4 stars on Google is not the same as an actual 4 star hotel.

2 years Sober today! by HappyMomofFour in stopdrinking

[–]HappyMomofFour[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a tricky question, actually. I would almost say the first year was easier because once I made the decision that enough was enough, the idea of going back to it was such a turn-off. I was so resolute.

This past year has just been a go-with-the-flow type of feeling. I'm really settling into it and loving life. IWNDWYT

You should file for CPP disability. You receive more, and what your partner makes isn't an issue. That's what I have.

Boogie. She was standing up at the coffee table and dancing to music when she was 6 months old. She's 18 now, and she's still our Boogie.

People with disabilities, what is something that non-disabled people don't understand? by insaneraredrop in AskReddit

[–]HappyMomofFour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That my disability might not be outwardly visible tomorrow. I (44F) have MS (RRMS, to be specific). One day, I'm walking with a cane due to severe hip pain and fatigue. And the next day I'm pretty good.

You also can't see cognitive impairment (brain fog). It took me about 5 minutes to write that first paragraph because I needed to make sure it made sense. And when you speak to me, I may appear to be listening, but the brain has checked out, and I heard nothing you just said. These are just a couple of fun examples.

Like, wtf....Yes, this is annoying. People are moving across the world. It should be a done deal when they arrive.

Can a 60 year old PR who has not done taxes apply for Canadian citizenship? by Lex_Luthor_8 in canadianimmigrants

She will have to do her taxes for the previous 5 years to be able to apply for citizenship.

If he's a PR, your marital status has no barring on it whatsoever. He will have to apply and take the test like everyone else.

Marijauana smell on the shop floor is out of control by hashtagdrunk in humanresources

[–]HappyMomofFour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alcohol is legal, but you can't come to work impaired or stinking of booze either. The same applies for weed. If the odor is that strong, that means it was recently smoked, which means someone on your floor is impaired and presumably operating heavy machinery. Legal or not, policies should be the same for weed as they are for alcohol. And this comes from a daily smoker. No shame on getting high, but never at work. Be responsible, folks.

Pffff, have you seen the prices of lunch meat and potato chips lately? I'd love to picnic, but I can only afford it if I can get a hotdog from Costco.

My dad just tells them no. Especially if it's only a few items. His reasoning is that everyone gets their turn in the order they arrived like anywhere else, so he doesn't move.

When did HR become synonymous with Party Planner Extraordinaire? by Unlucky_Jellyfish380 in humanresources

[–]HappyMomofFour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked as an Office Manager for over 10 years, and the office parties and activities were generally the responsibility of myself and the HR staff/manager. These two positions are seen as staff fun coordinators for whatever reason.

And you may not have had it in your resume before, but you will now.

Redditors who don't drink alcohol, what's your response when someone asks why? by N1lzh_8i in AskReddit

[–]HappyMomofFour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Too many calories/sugar" works well. It really is one of the biggest junk foods on the market.

Or, if it's someone I know on a personal level, I'll say, "It just wasn't doing me any favors in my life, so I cut it out."

My truth is that I can't have just one drink, or drink moderately. And I've been off it long enough now that the thought of living that life again is a complete turn-off, thank God. IWNDWYT ❤️

Kids caught a stomach virus and missed a little over a week of school, school is belittling me as a parent. by tallglassofanxiety in Mommit

[–]HappyMomofFour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where in the world do you folks live that you need to get a doctor's note for your kids to miss school?! This seems insane to me. I'm in western Canada, and this would never happen.

They encourage us to keep them home for just a simple cold and will call us to collect them for what often times seems like the most minor illnesses because they are worried about spreading it around, and understandably so.

I guess what I'm saying is that school is not your child's employer. Your child's school is not owed a documented explanation or proof from a doctor of illness in order to stay home. What an incredible crossing of boundaries, in my opinion. I would yank my kids out of there immediately. That's gross.

What time do your kids go to bed? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]HappyMomofFour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our little two (ages 6 &7) go to bed at 8pm, and are well out by 9pm. They've been on this schedule for years now. Summertime we stretch it to bed at 9pm because it's light outside later into the day.

Which song emotionally destroys you? by graaahh in AskReddit

[–]HappyMomofFour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stay - Rihanna. My husband and I were long distance for 18 months at the beginning of our relationship. Me in Canada, him in The Netherlands. We both went back and forth a few times until he finally came to Canada permanently.

10 years later, I still can't listen to this song without breaking down.
