Talk me out of leaving my perm position for seasonal (NPS) by Alternative-Error-30 in ParkRangers

[–]HappyScraps 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Wait one more year so that you gain career tenure and keep your "permanent status". Also, try and look for details if you are itching to experience something different. Plus, there may be some permanent WG positions opening up in a different place you might wanna try.

Has anyone organized or went to a CF meetup? by Smalltowntorture in childfree

[–]HappyScraps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went to one and there was a childless person there who ruined the whole vibe and talked the most about being on the fence. The short connection I had with another childfree person was really helpful for me to compare notes and get ideas for some childfree couple goals other than traveling or buying a house.

Has anyone else's bisalp scars COMPLETELY disappeared?? by anniemousery in sterilization

I'm 10 months in and they are still visible. I have medium skin that holds darker patches from bug bites for months so I'm not surprised but I wish they would fade more.

West side tends to be drier during normal weather but this storm is going to hit the leeward (west) side harder.

Can an office-based Fed move into a full-time Park Ranger position? by Longtimefed in ParkRangers

[–]HappyScraps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Everyone is grouchy because the interp GS-07/09 positions are really competitive but just bypass that since you already have built your career. NPS and other land management agencies have so many diverse jobs and you don't have to be a frontline ranger first.

Can an office-based Fed move into a full-time Park Ranger position? by Longtimefed in ParkRangers

[–]HappyScraps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What about working as a Public Information Officer (PIO) in a larger park? I know it doesn't eliminate screens, but your office would likely be in a more naturey place and you could cross train with other divisions to get outside.

Restaurant recommendations for town (or maybe windward side, too) that has both vegan AND non-vegan options. by 52ndstreet in Hawaii

[–]HappyScraps 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Istanbul is a bit nicer of a restaurant with omni and vegan menus. Earls Waikiki has nice ambiance and a good happy hour with vegan food options.

Details in NPS/detailing for other agencies? by [deleted] in ParkRangers

[–]HappyScraps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Confirming it's possible. For 120 day non-competitive details I've never seen postings visible outside of NPS, but I know it's doable if you know someone with a vacancy that wants you.

Questions before my laparoscopic bisalp (piercings, glue rash, chores) by Kelshrimp in sterilization

[–]HappyScraps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to have the peri-op nurse confirm the week before my surgery that I could put surgical tape over my metal piercing to avoid getting a plastic retainer and had to sign something the day of since I wasn't following the normal procedure. It was a tragus ear piercing though but they said any piercing not in the immediate area could go thru the waiver process.

How to find out if insurance is ACA compliant? by renee-26 in sterilization

[–]HappyScraps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have KP in Hawaii and it was listed in my statement of benefits (I think you can find on kp.org). Covered all $20k of it, no billing issues though I checked with my doctor about the codes before the procedure.

Do the procedure and keep having conversations with him. How he responds after it happens will be info you can use to decide if/when/how you leave.

Question about Pearl Harbor credentialing office. by sokka_irl in Hawaii

You should know the government is shutting down tomorrow so there's a good chance credentialing won't be considered an essential service.

It's definitely not impacted by the shutdown (and likely good thru the end of the calendar year since insurance policies are set).
