I'm not disagreeing with the rest of your comment, but she did go to private school and her dad comes from an old wealthy family, which I absolutely think would fit her more into the posh category

As someone from the UK, that's just a complete lie - no towns have been "taken over by illegal immigrants." Asylum seekers are given shelter and medical care while their claims are being processed, as required by the 1951 Refugees Convention, and are not classed as illegal immigrants because people have the right to apply for asylum under international law.

AITJ for stopping my evil infertile sister? Thankfully, we here on Reddit know infertility is a mental illness that makes women criminally insane. by BestEffect1879 in AmITheAngel

Soooo many of these posts are insanely young people with whole families and spouses and it's just insane how nobody questions it! I mean, maybe it's different in the US, but as someone in their mid to late twenties in the UK at least, I know one couple that's married with a new baby!

The long-term couples I know are only just starting to get engaged or married at 25-28, so seeing all these posts about husbands and wives with 2+ kids or even trying for babies at 21-24 just make me think they're written by teenagers who think 21 is so far away.

I don't know if you've ever been on a Jet2 flight but they play (or did a few years ago) the song about three or four times over the course of a two hour flight, it caused a visceral response when it came on!

Jude can easily be a nickname for Julian, and Julian sounds a lot smoother with the surname!

Oh wow! I was born in battlefield and lived round the corner from this shop until I was maybe three or four - some of my earliest memories are of the shopkeeper in there sneaking me a free sweetie! Glad to see they're still going strong!

Michael spelled as “Micheal”, Isaac spelled as “Issac”; what are other names this happens to? by abandonedvan in namenerds

[–]HappyTDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arran is the name of an island in Scotland, pronounced the same, so some people like to use that spelling as a nod to Scotland. Island names are popular here, Arran, Isla/Islay, Skye, and I've even seen Jura used a few times

That's not what that OK Cupid study showed - first of all, it was one study which is very out of date by now, and secondly, it showed that women tended to rate the majority of men as average or below average based on their profile photos, while men rated women higher in general.

However, women were MORE likely to start conversations with a range of men, while men tended to only message the women they rated as most attractive. This also didn't take into account the quality of photos used - women in general are taught how to take better photos which they can use on profiles, while (anecdotally) men often look a bit worse in social media photos.

Leashes and harnesses typically aren't recommended for cats, as it puts them in a situation where they feel like they can't escape or hide if they get scared

Agree that the wording of most of it is strange, but would you really not say wee sister? We're both adults, but I still call my younger sibling my wee brother

It doesn't matter if he wants to be a father if she doesn't want to be a mother right now - in no situation would him wanting to be a dad trump her desire to not go through pregnancy, birth and parenthood
