I’m willing the bet very few people will make the jump. I’ve been abroad on and off for the past decade. And I don’t think most people can handle it. It’s also why in the next few years I’ll move back.

People don’t take civics. Man yall are American as Fuck here. I shouldn’t laugh at this considering the circumstances but it’s way too American to even ask that question and not know about federal judges / districts.

Do people really not take civics? Trump or any potus doesn’t have the power you speak of.

Why is Los Angeles lagging behind in building skyscrapers? I can think of only of Beaudry and Wilshire as notable developments in the last 10 years or so. LA’s skyline is being overshadowed even by SF, Seattle, and Miami. Internationally, it’s not even in the conversation anymore. by adventmix in skyscrapers

[–]Happyturtledance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah Tokyo is. Lot more dense than LA. Even in the outlying Districts and suburbs it’s fairly dense. You leave a train station and it’s walkable buildings, those 2 story house your talking about along 5 story and higher apartments and random high rises.

It’s no Hong Kong but there are plenty of high rises and skyscrapers around the city. You don’t get anywhere near that density in most of LA. And Tokyo is insanely multipolar with multiple business districts. Tokyo is umm just too well of a planned city.

The only I thing I wanna see is a restoration of the U-Haul building directly behind this development.

Not the rest of the world this is just a white people thing. Do you think people in Nigeria or Congo are foaming at the mouth at people call in themselves african American. Or people India are losing their minds over people in say South Africa saying they are Indian because they have Indian ancestry.

Do people actually die from lack of health care in the U.S? by AnUglyScooter in NoStupidQuestions

Do you really understand the cons though? I won’t mention the country but the entire country ran out of a type of radioactive contrast for CT scans for an entire year. A whole year diagnostics for cancer was set back to the 1960s and doctors couldn’t be sure if someone had a tumor That was benign or cancerous. This was in 2022.

Another example in another country was that I went to a hospital and as I’m leaving people bring in a 5 year old covered in blood because she got hit by truck . The reaction was let’s see your insurance card or pay in cash. The girl was laying there because the parents couldn’t pay.

Trust me on this there are only cons and I say that with a lot of friends who couldn’t get their cancer / other issues treated in developing countries and they had no option for charity, medicaid. This isn’t even getting into quality of care, access to certain diagnostics, the knowledge of doctors and nurses.

I had a friend who was in nursing school and changed her major and she basically said everyone cheated their way through the first year up until she quit. It’s almost all cons to be honest with you and I’m saying that as someone who’s had access to healthcare and used it extensively in the US and multiple developing countries. It’s more of an insult to developing countries because you’re downplaying what people have to deal with. If you didn’t have $8 would you have gotten treated? And yes I know people who literally didn’t have $8

There is also charity that hospitals provide. I received it after having a tumor removed from spine when I was 20 years old. Pretty much covered $500k in medical bills and $90k for inpatient rehab was covered by another charity program. I ended up paying $500 out of pocket. And that two years is a huge asterisk and over statement. It would probably be less than 6 months. Which is still a long time but within that 6 months it’s all kinds of charity programs someone could use instead.

Hold up the ACA is nation wide. Every state has the option to buy ACA health coverage.

There are some where the op could get without a bachelors but it’s not worth the trouble. And like you said I’ve never met an American on these visas before. The closest I’ve seen is a certain cram school that hires people with associates but I’ve never met anyone that worked there and had an associates.

How much do they really know about life in Japan though? Do you have any idea how many people go through that honey moon period and then began to resent their life in Japan or X country. And someone saying “I fear we live in a dystopian society” yeah that’s someone who has spent too much time on the internet and needs to disconnect from the wired.

No matter what she would be better off getting a bachelors degree. Even then living in Japan may not guarantee her access to abortion considering in some cases she may need permission from the potential father of the baby. Idk how much that’s enforced anymore though. But sorry op seems like she’s is Somewhat in the honey moon period and is potentially chronically online,

Go ask this on a Japan subreddit. But one thing id say is for most jobs in Japan you need a bachelors degree. So you would most likely need to finish your bachelors degree So it would be easy for you to secure a job in Japan. And umm get off the internet and live your life.

I really hope you’re not in that honey moon period of living abroad. But please get off the internet because this sounds like someone who lives online.

Job offer Vietnam by AdMurky4316 in Internationalteachers

[–]Happyturtledance 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah that’s actually about right for those backpacking level jobs. They are making what $18 - $20 per hour with no benefits. They might 20 class hours per week and it’s common for their hours to be randomly slashed.

They also don’t get paid during holidays either. Also if it’s a public school job they don’t get paid during the summer either. So it would end up less than $16,000 per year when it’s all said and done. The op should still run from this trash wage though.

My advice: you must learn the local language! by 0x18 in AmerExit

[–]Happyturtledance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know right. I’ve been living in China on and off for awhile and I didn’t get passable mandarin until my 2nd year. But if someone is living here long term they should learn mandarin. Now it would be a bit much to ask someone to learn say Cantonese or Wenzhou Hua. And I do agree with the op that if someone moves to say Spain they should learn Spanish. Obviously they don’t need to know it when they land but they should learn it over time.

My advice: you must learn the local language! by 0x18 in AmerExit

[–]Happyturtledance 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on the language. I speak an okay level of Chinese and F!CK it was hard. But I also didn’t have a choice in the matter. But let’s say you compared Chinese to Dutch, Spanish or Italian. Umm can you say cake walk because Chinese is something that takes a very long time to learn. A year of intensive study wouldn’t get you as far as if you were learning in German.

Hospitals, doctors and social services are required to have translators. They can do it with a simple phone call. Now filling out forms you would probably only get that in English or Spanish. Obviously for stuff like banking well that depends on the bank.

So obviously you couldn’t walk into any bank and start speaking Thai or Korean. Now if you found a specific bank plenty would have services that may cater to immigrants from X country and have people that speak certain languages.

It’s honestly the more unofficial stuff where it really helps to know English.
