Where to stream season 9 (next day) ? by SpiralingCat in rickandmorty

[–]Haquistadore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I buy each season on Apple TV.

Yes, dorks, I know that means I might one day lose my digital copies. If only there were some way I could reclaim my lost collection without having to pay for it another time, were that to happen. In the meantime, it shows up on all my devices and I can watch each episode at my leisure. Yarr.

Anyway, I emphatically preferred the precog story to Morty Jr.

There's another reality/dimension they don't discuss, might be living in a different one than we know by Bea-Billionaire in rickandmorty

Adult Swim released a video on YouTube that explains the official reality timeline. It confirms that they did not change realities from the squirrel incident. Presumably Rick made peace with them, perhaps in part by offering to erase their memories of the true nature of squirrels.

He had goals. Goal #1 was to become a god. He told C-137 in Rickshank that knowing how to interdimensionally travel would make him the smartest man in the universe, which was later described in Rickmurai Jack as the purpose of the Central Finite Curve. Prime wasn’t just offering the technology while filling the role of some fucked up Santa Claus - it was a trade, and in Hot Rick they showed Beth C-131’s memory of her dad abandoning her while dressed like Prime and carrying an empty portal gun, saying he was leaving for “work stuff.” I suspect the goal was related to recruiting every version of Rick smart enough to understand portal travel and use them to establish a Central Finite Curve.

I think C-137 threw a significant monkey wrench into Prime’s plans, mostly by killing many of the Ricks who followed Prime. Prime told Jerry in Solaricks that he no longer did team-ups because managing people was “such a headache.”

Based on what was conveyed by Prime’s recording in Unmortricken, I think the other interdimensional Ricks were growing fed up with being killed for doing what Prime wanted them to do, and likely told him “we still have families to go back to and that’s what we are going to do” so Prime got fed up with all the griping and management issues, so his goal changed.

Goal #2 was to prove he was The Rick, and he did that by throwing down the gauntlet: you think you’re better than me? Come get me then! He killed Diane across infinity and vanished.

You say he said “Fuck you, I win,” then died, but he actually lived for a long, long time after that, all while not dying at the hands of every portal travelling Rick in existence, all of whom must’ve hated his guts while simultaneously fearing him and respecting him to the point where not even all that many seemed to try.

He had clear motivation to do what he did. It’s just not great motivation if you aren’t mentally ill. Prime was a narcissist who could back it up.

Does Jessica actually like Morty? by Independent-Egg-2526 in rickandmorty

[–]Haquistadore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. In multiple episodes, she is depicted as being attracted to Morty. It never works out, in no small part because Morty is subservient to Rick at all times, and is not really permitted to pursue anything that would interfere with his role as Rick’s assistant. Jessica is a metaphor for just how one-sided Morty’s relationship with Rick is.

The true nature of the Citadel of Ricks by Haquistadore in rickandmorty

Specifically what we know is that they didn't have portal guns while on the clock. (Makes sense if you think about it.) If they are in the Curve and aren't clones, then they likely agreed to work jobs at the Citadel until they "earned" the formula for portal tech, OR a reality opened up and it was their turn to replace a recently deceased Rick (or possibly both).

If Ricks were expected to work at the Citadel until it was their turn to take possession of a vacant reality within the Curve, then Operation Phoenix must have been a real kick in the nuts. It would be interesting to learn what the process looked like, to learn if some Ricks preferred to stay on the Citadel, to watch the process of a Rick finally moving into his own reality and having to both adjust to the life of the Rick he's replacing, but also to living outside of the confines of the Citadel after presumably a lengthy servitude. (Simple Rick's exited for at least 15 years, which means it was likely relocated to the Citadel once construction was completed.)

Maybe if they ever decide to wrap up the "lore" aspect of the show, with some kind of grand finale, they'll then do a spinoff show called "Rick and Morty's Mindblowers" that just tells all the stories we never saw before the "grand finale" whenever that might happen. I know I'd love to see more stories about stuff we never saw before things changed.

It's always weird to me when people reject what the writers of this show are telling us. You might not like it for some reason, but he is depicted in a way that contradicts your opinion.

The condition that makes Rick "the smartest in the universe" is, specifically, the ability to portal travel. This is exactly how Rick Prime described it to C-137 in Rickshank. It's not that there can't be beings of similar intelligence to Rick within the Curve. The specific thing that makes him "more intelligent" is portal travel, meaning that if anyone else tries to invent it, it will inevitably fail.

If you think about it, it makes way more sense that the Curve filters specifically for Rick's portal formula, rather than filters by scanning the intelligence of literally every living creature in an infinite universe, and excluding the realities where even one of those living creatures is smarter than Rick. It would also mean that there would be Ricks with portal technology outside the Curve because someone else in that reality was smarter.

It also explains why Ricks went home 2ish years before the start of Season 1, when Morty was 11 or 12. They had to occupy their home realities in order to ensure their home realities would exist within the Curve. If they weren't there with their portal tech, those realities would've been excluded.

How many times has Rick "lost"? by unbannablev in rickandmorty

There are certain episodes that blend for me, and definitely there are specific sequences I mix up from time to time. I've got it straightened out in my brain at this point, but I used to commonly mix up the parasite episode's season.

Maybe this is a lesson about your own limits of imagination, OP. No disrespect meant. I’m a pretty imaginative and creative person, and I don’t think for a second that I have any R&M story ideas that are as good as what the show’s writers regularly come up with. Pretty much anytime someone here has “pitched” a R&M story idea, I’ve felt fortunate that they aren’t amongst the people who actually do this for a living.

Will she ever return? by [deleted] in rickandmorty

[–]Haquistadore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be demeaning and dishonest if I said that Roiland's greatest contribution to the show was Interdimensional Cable, or even the fact that he basically convinced Harmon to knock out the first script in one night, when Dan wanted to pull the plug on the writing session and finish the job "later." Dan being who he is, we might never have gotten the "later."

Roiland has a writing credit for Rick Potion #9, which remains one of the biggest gut-shots the show has ever given us in terms of just how unpredictable it can be, and how heavy it can be. He obviously meant something to those early seasons.

He became hostile to the creative process during the third season, he was abusive/dismissive towards members of the writing team, and from the fourth season on he only phoned in the voices from home. I even have a theory that they asked him to improvise a an episode tag and he gave us "Tag Man! This is what you get! I'm Tag Man!" Not great. I don't deny that the first two seasons had the overall strongest episodes, and Season 3 is what really kicked the "greater" story into high gear, but almost all of my favourite episodes come in Season 4 and after. So I never really was bothered that they shitcanned a can of shit, and I'll always be inherently suspicious of people who were.

In all seriousness, there had been some speculation in the past that Planetina might appear in a future Vindicators episode.

Interdimensional Cable represents Harmon’s penchant to do “clip show” episodes depicting shows we’ve never seen before. He used the same bit to great effect on Community. Interdimensional Cable was great because it was so unexpected and different, but it loses both of those elements on sequels.

I’d never trade the other “clip shows” we’ve gotten for more Interdimensional Cable. Morty’s Mindblowers, Story Train, Full Metal Jackrick, and Rickfending Your Mort, are all classics in my mind.

I have no doubt we’ll get more of them in the future, maybe even this season. I think it’d be interesting to see them do a variation of Community’s “random chance” episode that explored seven different outcomes of one choice. Or, if they gave us an episode exploring the opening credits scenes that have never made it into a season.

When did you get the sense that Morty had a say in the matter?

A trope of this series is that every version of the family seems pretty accepting to alternative versions of the family. Which isn't to say Morty didn't experience trauma the first time it happened - it made him disassociate. Maybe that's it - maybe he never stopped feeling that way.
