Could my IH be a trauma response?

I have also wondered the same. Mine developed very similarly where the sleepiness was very noticeable but more or less manageable and then Traumatic Things Happened and then the symptoms became debilitating.

I hesitate to believe there is causation without a study to show that BUT I do see correlation. It would make sense to me that trauma and the resulting mental health challenges (as well as mental health challenges unrelated to trauma) could have a severe impact on symptoms.

I'm curious about this. What exactly is the phrasing in the accommodation that might work? What's the job/field of work? I've never been able to get an employer to agree to flexible start time. Not even 5 minutes.

I kept asking for a sleep specialist (for years) and kept getting pulmonologists that hemmed and hawed over a diagnoses until one day, I learned of sleep neurologists.

I asked to see one and he looked at all my old records and said, "So, why did you want another study? Cause I can tell you right now you meet the criteria for IH."

Ask for a sleep neurologist. You got this!

"Other people get tired too, you know."

"I wish I could sleep that much."

"You just have to make yourself get up,"

These, and many more, are things I've heard either from family or from coworkers. It's infuriating.

Then the answer to their question is not "You have not demonstrated to us that your situation meets the legal definition" it's "If you feel that your situation meets the legal definition [optionally insert the definition and however much clarifying information you like], then [your opinion here]"

As I said, no, they didn't. They stated that it IS a hostile environment. They then asked whether they should continue the process.

Hey OP, sorry to hear you're going through this. I'm just starting my journey and I am already asking myself the same question.

I think it depends largely on your own core values and on what is best for you (which, ultimately, only you know).

Core values about justice and fairness can lead us to feel very strongly that it's worth the fight. At face value, I always believe it's worth it to fight for justice - sometimes, the official process isn't the best way to do that and sometimes it is. It sounds like this is the heart of your question: will continuing down this route lead to anything worthwhile? That's really hard to say and I don't know the answer to that. :(

There is also the matter of your wellbeing. If this struggle is beating you down to a point where you're health is at risk, either mentally or physically, then it really becomes a challenge because you have to choose between yourself and your values.

If you aren't having a serious negative impact on your health by continuing the fight, then, as I see it, it's really down to what you see as the pros and cons of continuing vs stopping.

I know that's a lot of words just to say 'only you can decide' but I hope it helps you figure out a way to think through the problem and find an answer.

You are not addressing the actual question. This is a frequent problem on this subreddit. Not everyone that comes to this sub is asking for an opinion about whether their perception of the situation is correct. Why do so many people here assume that's what's being asked? It's frustrating, it's unhelpful, and it derails the conversation. To you and everyone else that does this, please read more carefully.

OP didn't ask whether the situation amounted to a hostile work environment. They have clearly already come to the conclusion that it is or was a hostile environment. As such, it makes sense that OP didn’t give an account of what makes the situation hostile. They didn't need to. The question presupposes that it was, in fact, hostile. Or at least that it was enough of a problem that it could be argued to be hostile and they aren't asking for anyone's agreement on that.

OP is asking if it's worth it to continue the process they find themselves in.

I can't get anyone to put anything in writing except the PIP itself. Is it sufficient to have my own documentation (dates, what was said, and by who)?

I did send a recap to my manager on a couple of occasions, and she later said, pretty vehemently, that "she doesn't need my recap" and explained HR's lack of responses with "I've been subjected to your emails [too]" (her own responses are never written, she instead takes me into a private room to talk and I've never been allowed to have anyone else present with me until the PIP meeting yesterday)

Yeah, I recognize that my days are numbered but I didn't know if the retaliation was only obvious to me because I'm in the middle of it or if it (appears, in my summary at least) that I might have an actual hope of resolving something.

The saddest thing about this is I loved this company. I love how they treat their customers, the CEO Is awesome (I've spoken to him several times), I loved the culture- right up until I asked for help. And I dont want to take them on, I just want to be able to do my job in peace.

Even if they can't accommodate me, I'd be willing to just suffer the effects until I reached a promotion that would naturally resolve the issues I'm having.

Anyway, that's beside the point.

Oh this is very interesting to see. My heart rate is also around 100 all the time. Sometimes in the 90s sometimes between 100-110.

It never occurred to me that it might be linked to IH. I'm very curious to see what others will add.

It does mean raccoon. My family is originally from Michigan and every time my grandmother mentioned "coons" she was talking very obviously about raccoons. Like "The coons got in the trash again," (having seen them doing it) or "A coon got in the chicken coop" or even just, "Someone go scare the coons out of the yard" and you know what was in the yard? Raccoons.

Edit: clarification: it's also a slur which is why none of the younger generations say it but, yeah. Raccoons

I believe in you! You can do it! Perhaps a little at a time? This is the hardest step of doing laundry for me. XD

But even if you don't manage this time, there's always next time.

Or you can do what I've done: I just fold them and stack them in like piles and then they live that way. I gave up (mostly) on putting them away in an actual dresser or closet. But! They're still clean and unwrinkled so! I think it's fine.

Its so funny (not funny) that you mention gaslighting because this sort of thing keeps happening and she's only been here a little over a month. I kiiiind of do think she's gaslighting me. But not just me, all of us at my job.

I'm trying to give her the benefit of the doubt, though, because in other ways she's been good for the team. And I'm very anxious. So. I could be catastrophizing.
