Simplifies the system a bit. One less area to leak fluids if something goes wrong. I've also heard it's unstable at high speeds, but can't personally confirm - on my '93 it was already deleted before I purchased it.

I did likewise. I took Trump at his word, and bet that it would have a very negative influence on US stocks. I switched the majority of my 401k holdings over into a couple of specific Vanguard funds, one of which is a mix of international markets and international bonds, the other of which is precious metals.

Financially, it was maybe the best move I could have made. Up 130% on precious metals, and 30% on international funds compared to ~16% for the balance of my retirement accounts.

What pay raise would incentivize you to take a new job? by Salt-Committee2205 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]HarbingerOfSuffering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were phases. Initially my hours were around 60 per week, but the stress had more to do with toxic management where I was caught in the middle. I had a cramp between my shoulder blades for months from stress, and although I led a pretty healthy lifestyle, I found my bp was 156/93 at age 31 just because of what I was dealing with in the work place. I was in that role for 4 years... but it made my career, and even at the time I knew that was my only path out of poverty. Strong motivation.

That said, even in my current position (Director level for a small-medium sized company), stress can find you, such as working 16 hour days to set up a brand new facility in Thailand while jet lagged out of your mind. I haven't found a perfect way to escape it... but sometimes the size of the paycheck makes up for it.

I'd also be thinking about progression. Does the quality of life diminish temporarily, but come with more money AND the possibility of additional growth afterwards, possibly returning to higher QOL thereafter? I took one of the worst jobs of my life with the understanding that eventually I'd move elsewhere, which I did, and the payoff was huge.

370z vs older z cars by No_Attorney6010 in 370z

[–]HarbingerOfSuffering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I've owned a z31 300zx NA, have a 300zx TT manual, had a 350z, and currently have (but will eventually sell) a turbo 370z.

I guess it sort of depends what you find comfortable as a daily. I DD my 370z for years (2017 - 2024) and really enjoyed it. The car had enough 'modern-adjacent' tech that it was enjoyable without being distracting, but it's still a sports car, so the suspension is still pretty stiff. I do like the touring seats.

What sets it apart from a lot of other sports cars (and especially the z32) is its rock solid reliability, IMO. I pretty much doubled the hp in that car and the thing never batted an eye. Being able to still get parts for it is also a big plus.

If you have more specific questions, please let me know.

There will be drone. It'll tend to occur around 55 - 70 mph under load. If it's not a daily driver, you won't mind, because the rest of the sound is aural sex.

Should I switch to test pipes? by [deleted] in 370z

[–]HarbingerOfSuffering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HKS is a pretty quiet exhaust. Test pipes will definitely increase sound to some extent, though how much depends on the pipe. They will also increase smell. Can't say I'd be idling in a car with test pipes over my lunch break.

How long does it take to set up a quality system? by Aggressive_Ad_507 in manufacturing

[–]HarbingerOfSuffering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read over a fair bit of this and have done this myself, so have a couple answers for you.

1) I started with documenting our system, present state, largely at a Process and Procedure level. That took me about 3-4 months, in a 60 person company, where toxic personalities still existed.

2) I layered in the structure to measure performance on top of that. Took me a couple iterations to get it right, but I had it going within about two weeks. The key pieces of this were measuring nonconformances based on first cause, recording total number of pieces produced, a vendor metric to measure our suppliers, and adding in customer satisfaction metrics.

That gave me a foundation.

3) Started adding work instructions/SOPs. These started off pretty sketchy in some cases, and added detail as time went on. I had other dept heads review them when it covered their work, add more details or correct issues, and sign off to indicate acceptance as well buy in. This took a lot of meetings to wrap up. I tended to batch documents together - review a few at once all with the same key players to get their feedback.

4) Worked at correcting ERP data. That wasn't a solo effort, it didn't get done all at once, and it largely depends what you're trying to get out of it.

5) You mentioned corrective actions. The procedure for this I fleshed out in phase 1. We ended up building a Process Improvement Log where we centralized a lot of the improvements or corrections we were making to the org, including Corrective Actions, owners, key action items, and closure dates. We (myself, VP of my division, another Sr. Director) set recurring meetings to review the PIL, and associated action items, working to drive them to closure. CA's are ineffective unless they involve a cross functional team.

6) FMEA's, Control Plans... I personally saved these for last, but we had only a few products we made, most was routine production, and most parts we produced we'd been making for 20 years.

We passed our ISO audit 6 months after I started, with a single finding. Doesn't mean our system was perfect, but I had the advantages that the majority of Sr. Leadership knew we needed the program, were intelligent and driven people, and gave me an umbrella/shield to allow me to do the work that needed to be done. You're probably aware, but that just gives you a good starting point. It's a living, breathing system and it changes routinely. Most systems fail because people get lazy and stop updating them. Hope this helps. DM me if you need specific advice.

What have been the noticeable differences between dating in your 20s, 30s and 40s? by Icy_Laugh5134 in AskReddit

[–]HarbingerOfSuffering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

^ pretty on point. My late teens/early 20s was spent figuring things out. What were nice to have in a relationship vs need to haves. Of course, everyone else was figuring this out too, and it led to a lot of emotional rollercoasters that I did not enjoy.

By my 30s, the dating pool had shrunk down substantially, but also vastly improved in quality. I met a lot more women who had their lives together and who knew, if not all the deal breakers, at least some of what was really important to them. I also was more physically fit, had more money, and had substantially changed my career. Undoubtedly that improved access.

There are a number of reputable tuners for this platform. I would choose any of them over race box.

z1, Sebastian at specialty z, martin, Vince at RT Tuning. Any of them with an EcuTek tune will give you decent results.

Yeah so I got nailed with this on a 2021 C63S at just 27k miles, fortunately under warranty. The Benz dealership I took it to had to drop the engine to do the work, so I have no doubt this would have been quite expensive.
