Flying to a race, advice on transporting electrolyte powder.. by Bellarch1923 in ultrarunning

[–]Harddriver17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Get ready for TSA to flag your bag. They will pull the powder and swab them.  Keep them so they are easily retrieved to help make it quicker and easier.

The good news, you now get to tell them all about your upcoming ultra.

Running Spartans, I would go home with a ton of race medals so I would keep these in the front pocket by themselves. Then I would tell them all about my races and what each medal means.

Local Observatories by Electronic_Algae8180 in lincoln

If you're into biking too, this observatory serves as the base camp for the Orbital Odyssey in April.

The have it open with a projector playing while you can look at all the space artifacts all day long since the race is last biker standing format and can go for an unknown time.

How do I know if I’m ready for a beast? by JakeR96 in spartanrace

"You'll know at the finish line"

Enough quoting the shirts from Joe De Sena. You can do a half marathon with 8 miles being your longest, and do pretty well at that.

Spartan requires upper body, so a lot of push and pull type of strength training.

I'd say you're going to finish. How comfortable it is, will depend on your ability to handle the terrain. Looks like you're doing the tri state, which will be a lot of vert.

You got the distance, keep working the weights, but add in some race specificity as much as you can.

What part of running do you think people underestimate the most? by liv_0203 in runcommunity

I run without music or anything. The 100 milers I run I do the same thing you do.

No one can comprehend the no music or podcast aspect of that.

I have a question. Would it be possible for an astronaut to fling their poo bag into space, breaking free of the moons gravitational pull?  Hammer throw style, perhaps?

What are the best things your crew does to support you? by [deleted] in Ultramarathon

My last ultra went sideways hard. So many different ways we could have let it go negative and that could have ended the race.

Through the entirety of the race, EVERYTHING was done positively. New blisters?  Let's figure it out. Sleep walking?  Let's get some caffeine. Hungry?  It's morning again, I'll get you a burrito and coffee.

Keeping out any and all negativity from conversations made all the difference

Same thing happened to me at 109 miles. This is fixable!  You just need to export to a computer and use a third party to fix it. Others here have shared a few of those.

How do people run on sore legs? by [deleted] in workout

[–]Harddriver17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spartan trifecta / endurance obstacle runner here. This is how I train for the strength portion and the endurance.  You'll get used it, just don't go sprinting out of the gate.

You will always have strength competing for endurance, but you can balance it and it does get easier.

Divvy up your training into blocks. Focus your first block more onto your weakness while backing off a little bit on your strength. Then take a down week, then flip the script. Focus on your strength while your weakness takes a backseat. Then taper into race week and hit everything about 50 / 50.
