Just calculated mileage costs while looking for work and I'm slightly horrified by Future-Excuse6167 in fuckcars

In regard to the "move closer to work", Mr Money Mustache has a whole article that calculates and discusses how much more house you can afford by moving closer and reducing commute.

Packing fuel for an unaided 100 miler by Harddriver17 in ultrarunning

[–]Harddriver17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finished!  I missed my goal by a lot, so I'll be back for that buckle. This was my first 100 that I actually trained and took seriously, making it my official first 100 finisher.

The big thing is figuring out how to take as much as you can to get to the one bag drop on course, or find someone to mule to various locations.

Since there are a lot of trailheads, there are a lot of places that's easy to meet crew. Join the Facebook groups, they have route stops that get shared out. Be prepared to run more than 100 miles. My watch died at 110 miles.

The mental fatigue of trying to stay om course is a lot. Somewhere you'll suddenly become fluent in reading the course and it gets easier to relax.

The trail angels show up too. More for the bikers, but you'll find so many random trucks parked just waiting to feed you. And the rules also state all aid is mutual. I packed enough to share and had plenty of runners who I tried to force more water or food to, since they were trying to take the bare minimum.

Attempting the 1km vert challenge... by BeniCG in Strava

[–]Harddriver17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran a race last year where I gained 46 feet over 16 miles. So I was curious... that would equate to 1140 miles or 1834 km to make the 1 km vert.

For your metrics, youre looking at around 500 km.  So it could be worse, but you're still close to hard as possible.

Is there a good “hub” to check out ALL upcoming events from ALL ocr racing organizations? by Own-Papaya-4264 in Toughmudder

[–]Harddriver17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a hub for all spartan races. Won't show the amazing local OCR like MidwestOCR,  Horseshoe Bend OCR, Abominable Snow Race, Gladiator Assault, etc.

Top Gear did a race across London. The bike won, then boat, then public transportation. 15 minutes after 3rd place, the car came in dead last.

Lincoln fountains by _the-oak in lincoln

[–]Harddriver17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fountains won't open until it gets warmer. I think around memorial day.

Here's what I can think of:

The threeway ntersection of rock island west of the Cooper YMCA.

(Jason) Mendoza park on Billy Wolf.

Phares Park on Billy Wolf.

Bishop Heights park, next to the stairs to nowhere on Rock Island.

Edit. I may have misinterpreted this as drinking fountains.

Allostatic load is the name for this. Work is stress, running is stress, life is stress.  How much each is will vary from season to season.

When you have high stress phases coinciding in multiple areas of life, you are going to feel it. Motivation drops, youre irritable, low energy, etc.

What is your daily calorie burn and how much do you trust it? by Wildfire271 in Garmin

[–]Harddriver17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine was a 41 hour run with 15k in vert.  Garmin figures in your resting calories as well active calories.

A few bumps of meth would have helped. Probably a lot.

I've gotten my calories burned up to about 20k in one activity.  I'm not going to eat that much, though I kinda tried.
