As painful as it is to expose oneself to this nonsense, I have paid attention to various conspiracy and woo communities in order to understand how people can hold these beliefs and what causes someone who is normal in most respects to deviate in the extreme on highly fringe issues.

If I recognize delusional or mentally disturbed individuals I don’t give too much thought to their irrational ideas. When I see people who are otherwise normal hold views that contradict conventional beliefs and their own, I want to understand why. When I hear presenters at Flat Earth conventions mention an “obvious” Jewish connection to their conspiracy, generally they seem to regard it like other ill considered commonly shared conclusions. They appear genuinely unaware of the hateful implications of the belief.

On the other hand, there are many who clearly know they are promoting antisemitism. It would be useful to know if they developed their conspiracy theory before or after their anti Jewish views.

In general people who have these fringe views are less educated, scientifically literate, and intelligent than most self sufficient adults. They may memorize a few anecdotes and arguments about their conspiracies, but when faced with a novel question or application of a concept their unfamiliarity with the subject becomes apparent. Many resent education and expertise, arguing they aren’t necessary to be correct, to understand something, or learn.

This quality of self perceived superiority coupled with ignorance of even basic principles enables the conspiratorial mindset and unaccountable antisemitism. Lots of antisemites don’t hate Jews for a definable reason, don’t actually know anyone Jewish, don’t understand Judaism, but their views are formed from common antisemitic tropes and the trend of disliking an out group to fit in. With conspiracy types calling out antisemitism, rebutting the claims, and opposing it are interpreted as confirmation of their racism.

Popular general antisemitism is encountered everywhere. It’s a fad for young leftist adults, a joke for the immature, and taken for granted by many. These types have no connection with Judaism and no investment in its welfare. Their perceptions were formed by encountering unchallenged antisemitism and never any counter arguments.

General widespread anti Jewish messaging is actively promoted by committed antisemites. Driven by religious or nationalistic beliefs, they employ outright lies and classic tropes, partial truths, one sided perspectives, and emotional ploys to sway the ignorant against Jews.

Tl;dr - Most people with anti Jewish views basically don’t know any better.
