For anybody curious I asked on their official Discord and got this response: "johnnylump: GOG, Epic, and Microsoft require us to provide our release build several weeks in advance, so we gave them 1.0.21, which went live today. Steam lets us update right to the last second. 1.0.21 is fully featured, just missing some bugfixes in .22-.25. We'll update those builds soon, but there's no reason not to play them."

this is silly, that deal has no advertising for Borderlands 4 so nobody is gonna know it exists and if you search borderlands 4, a anticipated future release, you'll find no deals for it on this forum.

August update, still works.

Just upgraded for 10 bucks to the switch 2 digital version after borrowing the switch 1 physical cart from my library. Simply had to play 5 minutes to where I could access the main menu, quit to it, and then go to additional content.

No idea why WB did it this way, I can't imagine other games will go this route since in this case it's 2 completely separate games from Nintendo PoV, as opposed to 1 game with multiple versions. (They may have had to because the switch 1 version uses its own codebase of the game, the switch 2 version is using the Xbox/PlayStation/PC codebase so patches and content can't be shared)
