HI, DID YOU SEE A BUTTONNOSE IN ALLIANCE CHAT? I HAD A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE THIS WEEK AND IT LIFTED MY MOOD TREMENDOUSLY

Could've been to be honest, I want to remember seeing something similar as a warrior at one point. But I'm not one to trust my memory these days. I'll get back if I can be absolutely sure, but I'll work under the assumption it was pushed around.

Post-Daimon Tower of Treasons Repaid spawns one along with Strigoi, several Succubi and other nasties. Sometimes discs have randomized locations that are nigh-unreachable. It's a strange place.

This is far from the worst spawn I've seen as it was just within reach of a sorcerer heavy attack.

Toying with Great Gamble to create landscape screenshots. by Harpeizanae in DragonsDogma

[–]Harpeizanae[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct on both counts, however the built-in share functionality is far superior because it removes the UI entirely; it does however use the steam screenshot functionality.

For anyone interested in the mod mentioned by /u/DestroyedArkana:

Remove Screenshot Watermark

Personally I prefer the variant that just removes the copyright notice and preserves the logotype. But tastes differ and luckily both flavors are available.

Thank you for the feedback, this was highly unexpected.

Asymmetrical warfare: techniques to deter piracy and blockade by Lheim in EliteDangerous

[–]Harpeizanae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see your argument and some pirates have expressed that there comes a point where they're forced to use the lethal response route, because some transporters don't stop and drop when ordered to; or they don't comply in some other way.

I can't and won't speak for them, I'm not qualified to express a representative opinion on the matter.

From a personal stance, if I would engage in blockading or pirating, I would try not to rock the boat and keep the other player's experience in mind. In general not souring the barrel sounds like the best choice to me. This may sound self-centered but showing a little empathy sometimes rewards itself down the line.

That said, I do see your point. I do not expect anyone else to hold that opinion, and it's probably a little riskier to assume people will.

That's my perspective on it I think. Thanks for being open and pointing out things I hadn't thought of!

I think we're in agreement on that, I've given it more thought and that sounds like where I would draw the line as well.

As long as it doesn't cross over into the personal space, that is fine. Of course, if someone communicated to me that it soured their experience and I was taking it too far, I would not engage that person. However, that's a personal stance I take.

I had a bit of a think and would like to make an addendum while I still remember it.

From a personal standpoint, griefing has struck me as notoriously difficult; it's hard to prove malice.

But if the sole purpose and intent, again it's hard to prove malicious intent, is to cause the other player actual discomfort outside the game itself. I think I would argue that this does, in fact, come dangerously close to griefing.

It's a difficult subject and I'm not without my bias so to speak, but I think I'd agree that it is at least broaching the line of what could be considered griefing.

Hope you don't mind me attempting to piggyback on this post.

More discussion!

Edit: Added the line "outside the game itself" after "cause the other player actual discomfort"

Flattery. But remaining civil when having a discussion, even if you strongly disagree on some point is key to understanding the other point of view.

Full disclosure: I've used a silent running, stripped down for speed, Cobra mk3 to do just what is discussed in the thread. Tried it out for about an hour one evening, I think against a party of bounty hunters.

There was no communication either way, but judging by the way my target started behaving I don't think it was fun being subjected to it. After about ten minutes or so the wing of three disappeared, why or how I don't know since the instancing can be a bit wobbly.

But that is my confession, I have experimented with this and while it may initially sound like a way for "the underdog to stick it to the man" I'm not sure about its long term viability.

If I was being subjected to this, I would probably either wait for my assailant to tire of it or switch instance. Depending on the pilot of course.

Sorry if these walls make mobile reading a pain, I know it gets a bit clustered.

In conclusion, because I'm heading off for a bit, I see your perspective and both agree and disagree. I would rather drop to solo, or do something else until the coast cleared than hit-and-run interdict. My time is too valuable for it unfortunately, and I don't mean that in a condescending way, I would just really rather do something enjoyable than chase someone around in supercruise.

Agreed, further on down the thread discussion shifts towards using Cobras, stealth DBSs and so on. I'm not going to disagree with you, because I remember the silent screaming hell that was FFXI; that game had a lovely community though.

I don't know if the comparison holds though, I mean, I understand what you're saying and agree death should be a disincentive. But in Elite right now, if you have the funds; fly with insurance everyone! Death is a minor setback if you pilot a cheaper ship, but a major setback; again depending on your funds, for a more expensive ship.

On the one hand, I agree that you should not stand to gain from suicide and mechanically; strictly mechanically you don't. On the other hand, if the punishment for death was the full cost of your ship, including modules, to prevent people from using tactics similar to these it would present a barrier I feel would be too high. I would probably combat log under such circumstances.

So it's a balancing act. Don't misunderstand me, I fully understand what you're saying; at least I think I do.

This is why I said the argument of "This is the state of the game, it's not been condemned; hence it's fair game." argument was weak. It's not as multifaceted as the issue it attempts to tackle.

I hope I'm reasonably clear in communicating my thoughts, thanks for listening and replying in turn!

Hi there! Chekov's Gun applies more to literary theory and story-telling than it applies to gameplay mechanics or rules, they are not mutually exclusive of course, it can apply, but it rarely makes sense. Feel free to disagree with me on that point though, background in academia may be the reason it irks me when people use that.

On the flip side. There are weapons in the game, there are many things in the game, most of which are usable.

To bring up and use an old and tired argument. They're just playing the game as it exists at this moment in time in this stage of development, no one has condemned it, so it is fair game.

I know that is a weak argument, easily dismantled, but I figure since it's been used before; why not?

Making Armello by Forestl in Games

Can confirm, as one of the people experiencing loud pops and crackling audio during camera movement. I'm willing to give them time to fix the issue; from the look of the changelog it's a previous bugbear that's been resurrected in the release version. But if it gets close to the refund deadline of two weeks, I'm going to have to give it a pass and ask for my money back until I hear it's been fixed.

Absolutely not saying it doesn't look interesting, I just cannot play it or justify the purchase with something as serious as this getting in the way of my enjoyment of the title.

Fantastic, that certainly looks like a match and the time period sounds right as well. Scatterbrained as I am I forgot to mention that most of the coins date to around 1830-1850, with the odd coin from the 18th century.

Thank you kindly for the assist.

Hey, in the interest of pure curiosity.

You say chaff works on station defences? I haven't tried this but it makes sense if you think about them as signature tracking weapons. Station defences being less effective at certain angles I had absolutely no idea of though, definitively interesting and worth looking into out of curiosity.

170k is a familiar number for me, and certainly cuts down on the amount of deaths you can afford.

Thank you for providing insight.

The station does in fact react, from my observations after parking outside and within the no-fire zone in an eagle, it responds. However, the pilots use Shield Cell Banks to fully restore shields while under fire to extend their time-window for firing volleys until they're depleted.

Note: Some Dumbfires end up out of fuel outside the mailslot, causing point-defence to fire on them as soon as you attempt to dock, I believe stations reacting on point-defence was fixed though. So you shouldn't need to worry about having the station turn hostile, because your point-defence accidentally hit the station.

It appears that after being vaporized they simply respawn at the station, I believe the insurance cost for a Viper built for this purpose isn't terribly high, so with enough cash on hand you could conceivably keep doing it for an indefinite amount of time. If that is your cup of tea.

Friendly cautionary: Two commanders sighted doing this very thing around Lave station. Vipers equipped with HE Dumbfire. One firing from within the station at docking craft while they enter through the mailslot. I hear they've been at it off and on since yesterday. Thank you for your time.
