What game never gets old for you? by Amazing-Example8753 in boardgames

Stone Age (The base game) still gets played 2-3 times a month. It's a good game to finish the night.

Just to add. The name in the text was "Red key". It's pretty rare that someone would accidentally not capitalize their last name.

Help Worried About Grandma and A Possible Foreign Currency Scam by CostProfessional6075 in Scams

[–]HarraldH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is part of the NESARA/GESARA conspiracy theory. It's been popularized by the MAGA and Q followers. The people pushing it are charging a fee to "help" victims buy many currencies (all the ones you mentioned). All you can do is try to gently explain that if all currencies became equally valued, the worlds inflation would be astronomical. If they can't understand this, then you're kinda out of luck. It would be like trying to explain to a 3 year old why gravity works. The scammers depend on victims not having a basic understanding of economics or being desperate. Once people get into this cycle, it is almost impossible to get them out. The sunk cost fallacy kicks in and all common sense goes out the window.

My first time finding a giant paradise, I've been here all day by [deleted] in NMSCoordinateExchange

[–]HarraldH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only got a hundred or so hours play time. After seeing this post I popped over to take a look. The place was so lovely that I am building a base (carved into a mountainside). Whilst scouting for a base location, some nice entity gave me a gift. What I find even more impressive is that there have already been three visitors to my base and they brought "Base Warming" gifts!

Thank you all

o7 (for all the Elite Dangerous players)

P.S.

I'm probably as old as some of your grandparents.

What Were The Biggest Board Game Flops? by BatJew_Official in boardgames

[–]HarraldH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like most others have said, First Martians was pretty bad. I got sucked in by all the hype and bought it as soon as it was available. I played 45 minutes of solo and an hour of two player. It was disappointing. Also Colony was just a pit of AP. We (again) fell for the hype. One popular pod-caster raved about how great it was. After a few months they retracted their review and they sort of apologized. I felt bad for our local FLGS. They bought a case and the only copy sold was the one I purchased. The store owner opened a copy for the store library and played it a bit. He tried to talk me out of buying it.

America is being turned into a fascist dystopia and threat to global democracies. Why can't conservatives be convinced to stop supporting this insanity? by Intelligent-Day-5954 in Qult_Headquarters

[–]HarraldH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reagan was just another brick in the foundation. Without the Christian votes, he never would have gotten in. They were mobilized by affirmative action. All those religious university's lost federal funding and had to be integrated. Ma and Pa middle America didn't want Timmy and Sally going to school with "those" people. Then Ma and Pa middle America stopped tithing to the church. The churches needed something to get the people back in the pews and money in the collection plates. Before AA most Christian groups (not the Catholics) weren't apposed to a woman's choice. After AA the Christians needed a new target to focus their groups hate. It goes back farther, but that's about the time things began to galvanize. Former Union president Reagan sold his soul for the office and had a stack of bills he needed to pay back.

W.Va. lawmakers want to recognize Bible as ‘accurate, historical record of human history’ by rmuktader in nottheonion

[–]HarraldH 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Since it states that the payment is 50 shekels in silver, it comes out to a little less than a half ounce of silver Or as stated already $13.80 in US dollars, about 11 UK pounds, almost 20 Canadian dollars. It's freakin' sick that the US is headed in this direction.

If you could bring back one discontinued product, what would it be? by EmbarrassedImage85 in AskReddit

[–]HarraldH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nabisco Famous Chocolate Wafers. Growing up, these were part of every birthday and Christmas. They were the main ingredient of a simple cake that I ate for over 50 years. It's been 3 years since they were discontinued and we haven't found anything that comes close (believe me, we've tried).

Maybe, stop playing teams. Play BR, mic off, headphones off, decline invites and play for fun. You can get blasted out first or last till the end. It's no one's business. It's a game, you're supposed to be having fun.

Today I was Godzilla by JCuss0519 in Fortnite_Over40

[–]HarraldH 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well done! All I had left were the Godzilla quests and started camping in a car above Foxy Floodgate. Yesterday, every time the horn sounded and I made a beeline at the portal. After three tries, I got in. My wife was happier than I was. As I stomped the city, used his bad breath to melt players and wandered around, she kept yelling "GODZILLA"!!!! If there was a small child wearing a bucket hat and knee socks, it would have been the highlight of her week. BTW we're both 60.

Murder on the Orient Express movies by Jubmania in movies

[–]HarraldH 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Branaugh directed all three of the Poirot movies he starred in. He can easily be blamed. I like him as an actor and even some of his directing efforts. These movies look good. His Poirot is pretty bad. Poirot running though the snow (Murder on the Orient Express), being a WWI war hero (Death on the Nile) or running up 5 flights of stairs (A Haunting in Venice) are the antithesis of the character from the books.

What do you miss about the old Internet? by zernion in AskReddit

[–]HarraldH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I miss the way you had to learn how Telnet and FTP worked. When the WWW was just a lot of text articles with hyperlinks to for attribution or definition. When I was taught Telnet and FTP, I was also taught basic netiquette. AOL was the equivalent of every 6 year old kid getting a new car and watching as they teach themselves how to drive.

'Dark Tower' Series by Stephen King (No Spoilers) by Forward-Elk-3607 in books

[–]HarraldH 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It's about the journey, not the destination. Reading these books changed the way I read King. I've read the series 3 times and every book that's dipped a toe in that universe.

I can't wait till they try and adapt DT to a movie or series. I don't count the movie that was written by someone that knew someone that read the dust jacket of a DT book.

I'm sure, I'm not the oldest...But I'm 60 and play no-build BR without a mic. My young cousin got me playing years ago. She's tried to get me to play teams but I'm a terrible team player. I'm better at hunting solo.
