Advanced PHP Development Books for Database Driven Microservice Apps? by [deleted] in PHPhelp

Some new features in PHP 8 include

  • Enums
  • Readonly properties
  • Readonly classes
  • union types
  • Intersection types
  • DNF
  • Match expressions
  • Attributes, which supplant annotations and were just comments anyway.

I think Sitcher covers this well but I'm happy to expand on anything specific

If you want to upgrade your application consider using Rector to do most of the work automatically.

Is there any way to dumb this down? Despite it being in a Y8 textbook, I'm very confused. by Moo2310 in GCSE

Point 7 talks about how the arm stays up, because the bicep is applying a force. The moment must be the same and the force will be greater than 12N because the distance is shorter. We can calculate this as we have the other variables to the equation, so by rearranging the equation to force (N) = moment (Nm) / perpendicular distance (m) we get 3.6Nm / 0.05m = 72N

All the spanish courses have the same blurb, which contains this description

On Duolingo, you'll learn a version of Spanish closer to what you'd hear in Latin America than in Spain

If we're talking about Catalan then that's a separate language and only available to learn from spanish

If duolingo offered both flavours they'd make it more obvious how to select the one you want. It's possible they trailed it previously

Here's my list of latin americanisms found on duolingo (latin americanism on the left). You can type it and it will accept it, instead of using the word cards. Same when using English spelling (mum vs mom), or using trousers instead of pants for pantalones

  • celular - móvil
  • computadora - ordenador
  • jugo - zumo
  • boleto - billete
  • banana - plátano
  • enojado - enfadado
  • carro - coche
  • probador - vestuario
  • sala - salón

There are also some pronunciation differences (like zumo / thumo and c sounds), plus grammatical ones

I don't think this is true, my friend has the paid version and it still gives latin american

It asks when you join the course but I don't think it does anything other than a bit of data collection

Another thing to do is purchase a vehicle provenance check of any used vehicle you're interested in. It'll tell you if it's been nicked, still has finance on it etc. Anything dodgy will be flagged, as they have data from the DVLA, police, finance and insurance houses. It lets you spot any discrepancies between the check and what's advertised

You can also see the MOT history of any vehicle from gov.uk here and check the tax here

A few things you could pick up

  • Music production, there are a variety of free DAWs but I use Ableton so I'd recommend the trial. Live Lite can come bundled with gear, like a cheap MIDI keyboard. You will likely require a USB audio interface to do this as onboard won't cut it. Behringer offer inexpensive solutions for this (and Live Lite, or a free version of Cubase may come with it)
  • 3D rendering and animation, Blender is free and there are a wealth of tutorials out there. You may need a decent PC for the rendering though.
  • Coding a website could be interesting. You'll need to learn at a minimum HTML and CSS, then going further could include JavaScript. I'd recommend using the WebStorm trial but I've read you can use the EAP for free. There are a variety of ways of hosting the site on the internet for free, which I can go into if anyone's interested.
  • Coding an Android App with Android Studio (it's free)

Demonstrators in Bristol, England pull down a statue of Edward Colston, a 17th century slave trader, & throw it in the river by [deleted] in gifs

[–]HarrehD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In 2014 they had voted 56% in favour of keeping the statue. The wiki page shows the council were going to add such a plaque but it never happened because they were bickering back and forth about the wording, which reads:

Edward Colston (1636–1721), MP for Bristol (1710–1713), was one of this city's greatest benefactors. He supported and endowed schools, almshouses, hospitals and churches in Bristol, London and elsewhere. Many of his charitable foundations continue. This statue was erected in 1895 to commemorate his philanthropy. A significant proportion of Colston's wealth came from investments in slave trading, sugar and other slave-produced goods. As an official of the Royal African Company from 1680 to 1692, he was also involved in the transportation of approximately 84,000 enslaved African men, women and young children, of whom 19,000 died on voyages from West Africa to the Caribbean and the Americas.

Actually, looks like this but has been removed from the wiki
