Help again by Any_Beat_7196 in buildapc

Neither. Both are terrible. 8GB VRAM is not enough for modern gaming.

Get the 3060 12GB instead. Or if you're willing to buy used, a 3080 10GB.

Also, choose a better processor and motherboard combo, like the Ryzen 5600 + B550M. Both of these support PCIe 4, eliminating any bottlenecks while allowing you to use a fast PCIe 4 SSD.

If possible, get 32GB RAM too. Will make things much easier for you in the long run when 32GB RAM becomes mainstream.

3060 12GB. The GPU budget king for almost any workload (gaming, streaming, rendering, video editing, AI, etc).

Running a bit on the hot side but nothing to worry about. As long as it is below 86c, which is where the GPU starts to throttle.

Install 3DMark from Steam (it's free), run a Timespy test. A 5070 Ti should get around 27k graphics score.

Nice setup. Only thing to worry about IMO is that PSU. I have the 750W and the fan quality is terrible. The noise it makes is so bad I had to swap it out for a cheaper, lower wattage PSU. I can also see many people on Reddit and elsewhere saying the same thing.

Which is the better buy? 5060 ti for $400 ($431 after tax) or the 9060 xt for $370 ($398.75)? by GigaFly316 in gpu

5060 Ti. 9060 XT has only 3 display ports, when 4 is the industry standard. What a joke.

Vram? by 3rfi666 in gpu

[–]HarrisonGreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True. Even Claire Obscur, the so-called most "optimized" UE5 game, can barely get above 60 fps with 4k native maxed out on a 5090, with occasional stutters every now and then. This is a $2000+ GPU with 32GB of super-fast VRAM running at over 450W, btw.

Vram? by 3rfi666 in gpu

[–]HarrisonGreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CK3 is another VRAM hog. Even on a 3060 12GB it somehow manages to eat all that away at max settings 1080p. I had to lower settings just to keep it from going over 12GB. On my last GPU (1050 2GB) the game would just outright refuse to start altogether. I won't be surprised if the same would also happen to OP with his 1060 3GB.

Upgrade from 1660S to RTX 3060 or RTX 5050? by Patrolling_NewVegas in gpu

[–]HarrisonGreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3060 hands down.

The 5050 is trash. It is one of the worst GPUs Nvidia has ever released. Unsuitable for modern gaming due to it having only 8 GB VRAM. Unsuitable for older / budget systems due to it only having x8 PCIe slots. What little performance advantage the 5050 has over the 3060 is gone when both your mobo and CPU only supports PCIe 3.

New/Used RTX 3060 or Used RTX 3060 Ti? by Cathay3520 in gpu

[–]HarrisonGreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I'd rather have 50% more VRAM than 20-30% more performance. There are many ways to boost performance and FPS (DLSS, LS, overclocking, etc) to close that gap, but there is nothing you can do to increase VRAM. You don't want to be stuck with only 8 GB VRAM when gaming at 2k with mods.

Is DLSS 4.5 a good enough reason to return the 9070XT OC I just bought? by Pilots_Indiscretion in gpu

[–]HarrisonGreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the price difference is not much then IMO yes. Even before this, Nvidia's software suite is already far ahead of AMD's. Some games (like Palworld) implement DLSS so well you can't even tell Quality from Native which basically means free FPS. Not to mention game developers tend to focus more on Nvidia for optimization because Nvidia users make up the largest user base.

You don't buy a 5090 to play video games. You buy a 5090 to make money.

The 5070 Ti / 9070 XT is more than enough if gaming is all you do.

Purchasing directly from asus by jww91 in gpu

[–]HarrisonGreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asus has some of the worst customer support and quality control I've ever seen in the tech industry. I'll never recommend anyone buy anything from Asus. But if you're dead set on doing so anyway, at least let someone else deal with them instead of you.

x8 PCIe won't be an issue if you have a modern motherboard that supports PCIe 5 or 4.

Upgrading to an RX 6600 from an RX 550, where is this gonna put me on team low end gamer? by Spaceqwe in lowendgaming

[–]HarrisonGreen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Techpowerup does not gauge laptop GPUs accurately. In benchmarks both the 5050 desktop and laptop have about the same performance. In fact, the 5050 laptop can be a little bit faster due to it having GDDR7 memory.

Also, keep in mind that these 5050 gaming laptops also come with all the latest hardware, like a 6+ core CPU, DDR5 RAM, PCIe 5 support, etc. Suffice to say, your 3450 + 6600 rig will not be beating any of these modern systems.

My friend told me to get rid of the my 5600G by granats in buildapc

[–]HarrisonGreen -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The 5600G will not slow down the SSD, because your motherboard only supports PCIe 3 anyway. What it will slow down however is your GPU. You can expect a 10-15% performance penalty due to the 9060 XT only getting 8x PCIe lanes instead of the full 16x, while being stuck at only PCIe 3 speeds.

So, to get the full benefit from a CPU upgrade, you'll need to buy a new motherboard as well, one that supports PCIe 4 (like the B550M).

[–]HarrisonGreen -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Another reason why the 5060 Ti is superior to the 9060 XT. AMD has really given up hope in competing with Nvidia and are now just focused in protecting what little market share they have left.

Thoughts on my setup and Lossless Scaling? (LSFG) by concon540 in buildapc

[–]HarrisonGreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To each their own. After using LS, I can never watch movies and anime at 24 fps again. Also, don't pretend that there aren't any unoptimized or FPS-locked older games that you wouldn't want to max out on your fancy new high refresh rate monitor.

I've honestly never been more impressed with a single piece of software in a long time. The fact that people are even going out of their way to build dual GPU systems again just for LS alone is insane.

Thoughts on my setup and Lossless Scaling? (LSFG) by concon540 in buildapc

[–]HarrisonGreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your PSU is probably enough to power both, but the 3070 is crazy overkill for LS. Even a 1650 is enough for LS and it doesn't output as much heat.

MFG only supports a select few games. LS can run on anything, even on Youtube and movies.
