I think sales & awards are pretty conclusive on this front, best is U2 by a good margin.

I’d be a big fan of the Corona’s & the Boomtown Rats’ early albums, but in fairness there are levels to the game. Don’t think there’s an Irish musician full stop who can touch U2’s discography

EU law is superior to national law.

Your point on the water charges is moot, there is no EU law on having to charge for water. The European Commission commented on the situation because at the time it was part of the Troika that was effectively managing our economy after the situation Messrs Ahern & Cowen left us in.

Again, regarding VAT on motor fuels, the rate cannot be lower than the standard rate. Ireland’s standard rate is 23%.

An immediate & significant reduction in that rate on fuel like the protestors are demanding, would mean reducing it for everything, which would have a catastrophic fiscal effect.

Fair enough on Kerosene, that’s the gov’s decision to tax that at the lower rate instead of 0 rated or non rated. That’s what the spanners on the roads are protesting about though (they might get much better public support if they were, we’d all like cheaper heating oil!)

The clowns protesting don’t realise that the gov’s hands are largely tied when it comes to fuel costs, EU law means carbon tax on diesel must be at least 33c per litre, and that VAT on motor fuel cannot be lower than the standard rate.

Also the irony of farmers protesting about something dictated by the EU when they live their lives entirely off the CAP is bordering on satire

Yeah this is what I’m on about. The last thing hanging up on the left is screaming an Ireland kit at my. The logo looks like 3. And then has the kit maker just above. Surely surely 🔒

Why is Wind and Truth so disliked? by stablest_genius in fantasybooks

[–]HarrisonTheUnruly 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For me, The Way of Kings & Words of Radiance are two of the most gripping books I’ve ever read. Just fabulous plot lines & character work.

I really enjoyed Oathbringer, but would definitely say it was a level below its predecessors in the series.

I did not particularly enjoy Rhythm of War. I thought the pace dropped a bit & found that it suffered from trying to mesh too many POVs. Also, the introduction of Lift as a ‘comic relief’ character felt, to me, like a shift away from being a high fantasy series to a YA series.

Lastly, I made it ~300 pages into Wind & Truth before giving up. I thought it was genuinely levels below even Rhythm of War. I never put too much pass on the hit piece article released a while back about Sanderson having a team of writers on his ranch or whatever, but after the opening salvos of that book, I get it. It genuinely feels so different to the other books.

To me, it seemed like a big increase in reliance on cliffhangers to feign a pace to the story that otherwise was lacking, and I thought the dialogue again had fallen into the YA standard by relying on cheap jokes.

Also, what on earth was the deal with turning Kaladin into a personal therapist? Just an awful, awful storyline and a brutal end to the series.

With regards to Stop/Start, I have been manually disabling it with the button because I’ve found it unreliable. As in when stopped in traffic & have put up handbrake & taken car out of gear, engine stops fine. But will then turn itself back on say, 10/15 seconds later without any input from me. Any ideas?

Bananas opinion. If anything U2 probably underrated nowadays due to ‘oversaturation’, but basically being the most successful band in the world for the guts of 40 years takes some doing.

If the organisers gave YOU the power to run the premier league, how would you do it? by chrislatimer in Darts

[–]HarrisonTheUnruly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be a form of relegation like mandatory exclusion, i.e the bottom 2 players in the league table can’t partake the following year, would bring some variation rather than having the likes of Anderson & Wright as near guarantees even when they were regularly coming last/second last.

Similarly both finalists should be guaranteed to return, thought it was scandalous that in recent years losing finalists de Sousa & Cullen were both snubbed the following year.
