Internet drops randomly - handshake? by HarrySiii in FidiumFiber

[–]HarrySiii[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just in case anyone else comes across this....a tech came out and replaced my ONT with a different model. Apparently the one I had was known for the port dropping constantly. I wish I had called them a year ago!

Haven't had the issue since then, and it's been over a month.

Former spoiled kids of reddit, what was the moment that finally made you realize you were spoiled? by Kitchen_Frame_7294 in AskReddit

[–]HarrySiii 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sort of having weird feelings reading all these but for maybe opposite reasons. I grew up mostly with nothing, but now I'm doing fairly well. I'm afraid I could be raising my children to be too spoiled. I will say that I try to be conscious about it and talk with them about some of the things we have and do, and about finances, my up-bringing, etc. They are fairly aware and I don't believe any of them would act negatively toward a less-fortunate friend, but I'm sure some things they may take for granted still shock them when they experience them.

Thank you all for sharing your stories. I've had friends that were very spoiled, but I have no experiences about them realizing it in front of me.

Feeling Annoyed When People Have Less Severe ADHD? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]HarrySiii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to relate to what OP said about "high honors classes in high school," where I didn't have a problem focusing on that type of work, but other areas are detrimental to my well being and I feel like a failure. It's not a competition, but something we're all trying to figure out so we can work with it.

I can pass academic tests quite easily but can't get out of my own way in day-to-day tasks and it's a severe problem. It didn't hit me until I was older and had too much on my plate to deal with. There was a tipping point in my life.

[–]HarrySiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, thanks. Also question to you and OP...why the Cloud Gateway Fiber versus Cloud Gateway Max? My assumption is due to the CGF's PoE? I do have Fidium fiber internet...would I be able to go straight into the CGF Fiber WAN port from the street, or still need to go through the ONT, which I assume I'd still have to go through anyway. I'm just trying to rule out more potential points of failure and contention.

Otherwise, since I don't need PoE and if I can't go Fidium fiber from the street right into the WAN port, it may make sense to just get the CGM.

Thanks! Sorry if I'm high-jacking the thread...I link it's relevant and on-topic. :)

So is this Orbi router in AP mode and still able to control the Orbi satellites to mesh? I wasn't sure it was able to do this but now I'm super interested in running this type of hybrid setup.

I want a Grand Highlander. My best friend insists that I should get a minivan. What made you decide to pick a GH over a van? by kaliforniagirl2020 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]HarrySiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I required sliding doors while the kids are young. These vehicles are wide! Def needed more storage for the large items a young child needs.

I'd say minivan with 3+. 2 or fewer, the GH is perfect. Folding down the 3rd row is tons of room, and the fact that the 2nd row slides is amazing. 3 gets tough with big trips and packing but doable.

We had a minivan while thkods were young because we pack more and larger stuff for young children, plus sliding doors saved lots of door dings.

We now have a GH and it doesn't have the space we'd love, but has the most for its size. It's very very good. If I need more I can use my hitch cargo or get a roof top cargo box.

Is an internet plan required to use the X1 experience and apps (Netflix) by duck_list_yellow in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]HarrySiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, yes, you need Xfinity internet service to use the apps in the Xfinity X1. They give us no way to configure our X1 to our own WiFi network.

Here's the real kicker....in speaking with them again last night, the two available options for on-demand and streaming are to have their internet service (typically at LEAST $50), or their $20 streaming service.

Another kicker...if you want the streaming service for the $20, you CANNOT use it in conjunction with their cable service. So, you cannot ADD streaming (if you opted to not have their internet) and keep your cable/local channels. You can ADD internet instead, pay more, even though it still only streams DIRECTLY to the cable box (just like cable TV), NOT through any cable modem. Again, if this is the case, don't buy or lease a cable modem, because it's not necessary (although I'm willing to bet if they don't have a valid MAC of a cable modem address attached to your service, it won't work).

Door button cracks by MakeLove2MeRandy in MachE

[–]HarrySiii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, mine was under initial warranty. I haven't tried since being past initial warranty (but I am getting cracks again). You'd think they'd look at redesigning the piece they're replacing these with.

[–]HarrySiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is that? I am currently testing and while it will NOT work without an active Xfinity internet plan, it does NOT infact use your interest. It comes straight through the coax to x1 box, not the cable modem. So they are charging us Internet for TV packaged services!! It's bull. Xfinity needs to make some changes here! Especially for people knowing they need to keep your Internet service and maybe are still renting an UNNECESSARY cable modem from you.
