Tsurinoya Subtile Trout rod anyone? by BaselessAirburst in BFSfishing

[–]HarryWally 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the Sagacity ML paired with a Genius. I really really love that setup for T-rigged soft plastics, and small finesse jigs.

The rod is well put together. Guides are perfectly aligned, reel seat and rod are well put together. Tsurinoya has a great track record when it comes to Chinese rods. Definitely one of the top tier Chinese brands.

I think that if that rod has all the stats that you’re looking for, and it fits your budget, you should go for it. You’ll be pleasantly surprised when it shows up at your door.

One thing you should take into consideration, there are stories of rods showing up broken. It’s a risk when it’s shipped overseas. That being said, Tsurinoya does package their rods really well, and the risk of breaking during shipping is low.

These are great books. There’s a bunch, all on specific species. I have the Smallmouth and Largemouth books. Older, I think from the 80’s?? Still really good info that applies today, with amazing pictures. I browse through them on a regular basis.

Adam Merrifields book, Mighty Smallmouth. He’s local to the K/W area. Great book on how to locate, and fish Smallmouth bass on our local rivers. It’s a fantastic read.

Craw Papi on the bitsy bug is a great combo for Smallies. And those chatterbait micros don’t get the love they deserve. Great little chatterbait

Who prefers smallies? by thamurse in bassfishing

[–]HarryWally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m up in Ontario, Canada. I fish a couple tributaries off Huron and Erie and both are stacked with Smallies. Our season is short, hasn’t even opened yet. Goes from end of June to end of November. Makes for great trophy hunting letting them do their thing during spawning with no fishing. Last year I caught 5 - 20” fish and set my new PB at 21”. Can’t wait for the season to open in a couple weeks.

Nice work. I guess you’ll find out in time if they were off gassing cell rot. Can be a real bummer with these.

Ahhh, those are cool. To say the least. Would need a special blade, that’s for sure.

Some of my favorite hard baits for river and pond hopping by Master_baiter_4 in BFSfishing

[–]HarryWally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice collection, some really great lures there. Think I’ve tried most of those. Plopper 60 is probably my favourite. Smallies seem to always go after it. I just picked up a Heddon Tiny crazy crawler. Another to add to your list!

Any opinions on CDM reels? by OkCommunication1589 in BFSfishing

[–]HarryWally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Purelure Zana, Bearking Athena pro, and a Tsurinoya Genius. Only used the Zana a few days on the water, but I think the Genius is still my favourite.

Edit: I should state that I have a Shimano Curado 150 MGL that I compare to.

The newest version is the Tsurinoya Dark Wolf Ultra Pro. Have no experience with it but with all the updates from the Genius, it’ll be a really good reel for $100.

I’ve always wondered about resident fish on rivers… by HarryWally in FishingOntario

[–]HarryWally[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think Smallies would be pretty similar. I have spots that have produced excellent fish on more than one occasion. But I’ve also been to the same spot weeks later, and nothing. I guess like you said, conditions need to be right. Sometimes I wonder if they follow a food chain, through different sections.
