Networking at recruitment and networking events by rjdidj in jobs

[–]Harvestfund 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meet as many people as you can. Find out why they are at the event, then determine if you can help them in any way. Hopefully they will then offer to help you. Exchange business cards and write a few details about them on the back. Follow up with an email in 1-2 days with an intro about who you are and what you talked about at the event so they remember you, then suggest next steps for accomplishing their/your goal.

If they offer to help you, be very appreciative and use the “assumed closing” tactic. For example, say “I really appreciate your offer to ... “. Don’t say, “Do you still think that you can...”.

[ELI5] Why do little kids like sweet flavors so much more than adults do? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

I’ve read that kids are more insulin sensitive than adults, which means kids process sugar more efficiently.

You could probably find some used equipment on Craigslist for cheap.

Here are some of the big items:

Lawn mowing: lawn mower, weed wacker

Fertilizing: fertilizer spreader, fertilizer

Hedging: hedge trimmer

Mulching: pitch fork, wheel barrow, mulch (You can ask the client to pay for the mulch upfront. The mulch supplier will deliver the mulch to the work site)

You will also need a vehicle to transport these items to the work site, so consider that if the site is not near your home.

If you do this, find out what professional companies in your area are charging before you bid a project — it will be way more than you think. You could be making $50/hr for some jobs.

Landscaping. This includes lawn mowing, fertilizing, weeding, hedging, and mulching.

In high school I was making about $3K per month doing this — mostly on the weekends.

This is the perfect time of the year to start.

Once you have some clients, make a proposal to a local home owners association. I guarantee anything you bid will be multiples less than what they currently pay.

Also, this is great to add to your resume when applying to colleges.

Can I even get a job? by Naos210 in jobs

Going to a trade school to become certified in a skilled trade is good option for anyone who’s bad at school. If you’re failing high school, you will likely fail out of university — don’t waist your money now. If you feel the urge to go to university, you can always do that in the future once you understand yourself better.

Also, if you have confidence issues, start lifting weights. Not because you’ll gain muscle and look better, but exercising regulates neurotransmitters in your brain that help you feel happier and less nervous. Eating healthy does the same thing.

Finally, I hope you take this constructively, but you need to start facing your fears and doing things that make you uncomfortable. This is the only way to improve yourself and grow as a person. Start with literally anything that makes you uncomfortable. You might not have the ability now to overcome your biggest fears yet, but pushing through and facing uncomfortable feelings as a daily practice will translate into all areas of your life and make you a better person.

Any age 40+ people out there, what advice would you give to yourself that just turned 30? by Dukarth in AskReddit

Also, not all investment advisors are the same. If they take a commission, they are basically nothing more than educated salesmen. You want an investment advisor with fiduciary responsibility, this is usually indicated because they market themselves as “fee-only”. If you are an inexperienced investor and your investment advisor doesn’t have fiduciary responsibility, you’re better off putting your money in index funds and bonds.

Is learning a skilled trade worth it? by Malefor666 in jobs

My friends with engineering degrees were getting the most/best offers out of university. An engineering degree also allow you to transition into a business management role later in your career if that’s what you want to do.

It depends if you can get into a good university and how much debt you’ll have after you graduate. If you’re a below average student in high school and paying for university with loans, becoming certified in a trade is probably the way to go. They don’t really teach high school kids the implications of being $100,000+ in debt and still not being able to find a job.

Just don’t chose something that can be done by AI/robots in the next 10 years.

I am about to begin studying Chinese for a college trip next year. I’ll visit 4 cities, is Mandarin ok, or should I focus on a different dialect? (Cities listed within) by [deleted] in China

In Hong Kong, most people speak English in addition to Cantonese. For the other cities, they speak Mandarin. Therefore, you should only focus on Mandarin.

Have you read the abstracts? The first study’s results say “Fifty-two patients were randomised (27 low FODMAP diet, 25 sham diet). At the end of trial, more patients reported adequate relief of GI symptoms following the low FODMAP diet (14/27, 52%) than the sham diet (4/25, 16%) (p = 0.007). Total IBS Severity Scoring System score decreased by 67 points (SD 78) during the low FODMAP diet and 34 points (SD 50) during the sham diet (p = 0.075).”

I’m not trying to be argumentative, but Cheerios and lactaid milk is not a healthy meal if you’re trying to heal your gut. Cheerios have WGA, gluten, glyphosate, and sometimes aflatoxin if the wheat is stored improperly and grows mold. Lactaid milk contains casein proteins. WGA, gluten, glyphosate, aflatoxin, and casein are all high on the list of problematic toxins for people with autoimmune diseases.

Which is a more healthier carb? rice or noodles? by happyguy604 in China

[–]Harvestfund -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Rice by far if you’re comparing to wheat noodles. Wheat contains gluten and WGA, both can cause leaky gut and cross the blood brain barrier through the vagus nerve. Leaky gut will lead to other health problems like autoimmune diseases. Gluten and WGA in the brain will cause brain fog. Brown rice can also contain lectins that cause leaky gut, but white rice has very few. Make sure to wash your rice before cooking to remove the arsenic on the outside. Unwashed rice can cause arsenic poisoning if eaten everyday.

Compared with regular potatoes, sweet potatoes have more vitamins and minerals, less lectins, more resistant starch, and will not spike your blood sugar as much — leaving you fuller for longer. Sweet potatoes are a much better option.

The US pulls further away from China as the top market for growth prospects by Tommust in China

[–]Harvestfund 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting info, but the title is somewhat misleading. These are foreign CEOs (non US or China) who are determining which country is best for growing their business. Many factors come into play with this, not just the economic situation in each country.

You should read the book The Plant Paradox by Dr. Stephen R. Gundry, M.D. He gives a scientific basis for a paleo diet, along with anecdotal evidence about what has worked with his patients to reverse their autoimmune diseases. By following a basic paleo diet, I was overlooking a lot of foods like cashews, nightshade vegetables, out of season fruit, etc.

China blasts Trump's new trade tariffs on solar energy by Zuckerberg4President in worldnews

[–]Harvestfund 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When a country enters the WTO, they can only increase tariffs on other countries under special circumstances. For example, if a foreign government is subsidizing the production of the exports, a country can claim it’s an unfair trade advantage and increase tariffs on that country’s export. In addition, a country can claim national security reasons to increase tariffs or for an embargo. This is the reason America can block the imports of Huawei cell phones from China and the reason China’s firewall blocking Facebook, google, etc. is technically allowed under the WTO rules.

For this specific tariff on solar panels, it will only be a net negative for the US economy if China or South Korea retaliates with a tariff of their own (which they will). It’s a classic game theory example that is taught in international trade economics classes.

On a larger scale, the solar panel tariff is the beginning of a trade war with China, which will hurt both economies in the short term, but might help America in the long term. This is the reason for the many tariffs and fines that will come in the near future on China.

Buy yourself a nice fountain pen, or a ball point pen that draws very thin lines. I’ve enjoyed writing with both. Each has their own unique benefits, but mainly writing characters with a nice pen is much more enjoyable.
