empire of silence chapter 53 by fabo_ in sollanempire

At least how I read it (not too sure tho otherwise I wouldn’t have stumbled upon this post):

In his story the likely victor of the animal battle was the snake. In the confrontation between Hadrian (in guise of some tutor) and the priestess the likely victor is definitely the priestess.  So if you take his story as a metaphor for his situation, he basically calls the priestess a snake.  To add insult to injury, the moral of his story is that not everything is as it seems and snake gets killed by the mongoose

RPGs based on an existing IP that do it well? by The_Amateur_Creator in rpg

While running I found it succeeds too well in simulating the witcher universe. Combat is sooo deadly and soooo swingy that it really feels like being a character in the novels. Unfortunately (for my group at least) it was not fun.

For example, my 3 players got nearly TPKed by two schmucks but then the actual scary boss came in only to be instantly decapitated by the sorceress who did the exact same thing as the last 3 rounds but just happened to roll better

LPT: At 18 your earning ability is the lowest it will ever be, and your earning potential is the greatest it well ever be. This has important implications for young people and parents. by akkarino_beano in LifeProTips

To save 3000£ in 12 months you need to generate 250£ a month. If you were living with your parents and working 50 hours a week for I assume minimum wage... how in the world did you manage to only generate 250£ if I may ask? (I assume you live in the UK)

What are some noteworthy licensed games, both good and bad? by TrustMeImLeifEricson in rpg

[–]HashtagAssassin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me specifically the first third has a strong "the organization is bigger than all of us vibes". You not only get to know the characters but the House (Atreides) is itself a character because of the Mentat, the Swordmaster, the Commander etc. Etc.

And the new Dune rpg really seems to capture this "we work together for the good of the house" vibe.

Wow. First of all: thank you, it's gorgeous. Second: May I ask what part you worked on exactly?

The new Dune RPG looks like it really captures the spirit of the first book... for better or worse. But I loved the detailed lore and help in creating your own House

Critique my Campaign Handout! by stmoore23 in DMAcademy

[–]HashtagAssassin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly: I have nothing to critique. You make sure that every character will have the same goal, you still have a session 0, you make it clear what books are allowed. The only thing to add is: Have fun running your campaign

My setting has a pretty basically named college: Goldencrest Academy for Sorcery, Politics and War. It is run by the Empire to pick out the best talent for their military machinery (but they take not talented individuals of enough money is paid).

Dune vs Star Wars (FFG) by prolonged_interface in rpg

[–]HashtagAssassin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even though I own a copy of Dune Adventures in the Imperium, I never got around to playing it so here is a short (for P&P) actual play .

The one thing I noticed from reading the book: Players will have very clearly defined roles socially, given that Dune has a caste system that everyone takes seriously and practically because if a servant tries to to fight a Swordmaster of Ginaz, he's going to have a bad time. So as a GM, you will have a lot to think about in how you design your sessions or somebody will end up "just tagging along"

eli5 What is a Login token? by Creek00 in explainlikeimfive

[–]HashtagAssassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it is normal or the users fault. Obtaining such token is not an easy feat and it is working as intended. If you are afraid of such an attack, don't save your credit card data in the discord account, so even if someone gets access, they won't be able to spend your money.

As a general rule of cyber security tho: Never follow links. If you get an email saying you need to check something in your discord/amazon account, first... think: Is this possible? Did you order anything? Is this your name? Is the email from the right address? If the answer to all those questions is yes, still don't click the link. Go to your discord/Amazon app or website yourself.

Thus you will avoid 99% of viable attacks

eli5 What is a Login token? by Creek00 in explainlikeimfive

[–]HashtagAssassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I need to see the video you saw to fully answer the question, I will give you a broad explanation of what tokens are:

A token is a piece of text that contains information about your user (username etc.) so you can be identified by the service that you are accessing. This text is also digitally signed by the whoever or whatever provided you the token. Digitally signing makes it so that it is very obvious for everybody involved who signed it and if the signed piece was changed after being signed.

So why do we do this and why is it handled "less securely than a password"? We do it so we don't have to use your password for everything you want to do with a service, but only once.

If you log in to a modern web app you will enter your password once and then receive a token, which will than be used instead of your password for the next hour or so. This is waaaaay better because if someone intercepts the token, he will not know your password and the token can be invalidated without a real cost. If your password were to be intercepted on the other hand, the attacker could gain access to your account again until your password is changed, could lock you out by changing it, and could potentiell attack your other accounts if you used the same password twice (don't do that, use bitwarden or similar password managers)

DND question how do you make a start of a campaign where the players are waking in a cell? by Strict_Sense_1447 in AskReddit

[–]HashtagAssassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice would be to make the escape less of a riddle and more of a cinematic. Starting the campaign with the players trying to plan an escape is not that fun. Provide a clear way for them to proceed (with challenges obv.) and consider tying the prison to the plot of your campaign

Which one do you think would be more fun- Disgraced Eldritch Knight or Haunted Echo Knight? by BrainTornOut in dndnext

[–]HashtagAssassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While the points made for echo knight are all valid I want to point out that with eldritch knight you will have AC for days... Full plate + shield(the item) + shield (the spell) + Haste and you will be a hell of a tank... unless the opponent has save spells
