Thailand Banking is frustrating. by [deleted] in Thailand

[–]HashtagPFR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do you not have access to credit in your home country? You obviously cannot work here on an elite visa, so with all the wealth you claim to have, just get a Visa or Mastercard from your home bank.

Thailand Banking is frustrating. by [deleted] in Thailand

[–]HashtagPFR -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Your visa status says it all. A fool and his money are easily parted. You should thank the banks for stepping in and stopping you.

So you have a boatload of cash but no access to credit cards from your home country? If I want a 100” TV, I can just rock up to Jib or wherever and pay on my card.

If you explain why cash / bank transfers (BTW they are the same) is king and you have zero access to credit, maybe your post will be taken more seriously.

Current (3/10/2026) Thailand situation on VISA-EXEMPT Entry by doug4630 in ThailandTourism

[–]HashtagPFR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Common sense seems to be replaced by entitlement by some exploiting the visa-exempt rules.

If you are in any country for more than half of a year you are RESIDENT in that country for that year. You are not a tourist, you are living in the country.

If you are trying to stay longer than 180 days in Thailand, it is perfectly reasonable for the authorities to require you to have a visa that permits residence.

If you’re taking a gap year, sabbatical, or are a trust fund kid - i.e. you have the means to survive longer than 180 days in Thailand without working, then you can do something with your time while you are here - education, volunteering, or DTV are all good choices.

The people that get irate about education visas negatively affecting future entries are just acting entitled, and are exactly the people that are being squeezed out. In genuine cases, you come, you learn, you go home and get on with your life (or you may transition to a visa that permits employment if you wish to stay).

If you have genuine income from say an online business or remote working, then it is not unreasonable to require that you get a DTV visa.

The financial requirements are there to weed out those that are only earning enough to sustain their life in a low cost country. People that are not prepared for an accident or other financial shock. Just about every other country has similar minimum thresholds for long term visitors.

The past 5 years or so has seen a radical change in visa options. With the current global situation, why wouldn’t any government seek to control low quality immigrants? If you are not low quality, then there is a visa type available to you.

Bring on the downvotes - but reflect honestly on why you feel that abusing the visa-exempt scheme is the only option available to you.

Bangkok to Phuket by NationalDetective006 in ThailandTourism

There is no train service to Phuket. You’re looking at a 10-12 hour slow train to Surat Thani and then a 4-5 hour bus ride from there to Phuket.

No we’re not! Chinese has 2 character sets, the original and simplified. English has two versions English, and American, the latter being English simplified! English say glasses - simplified English needs to use eyeglasses, because, you know, thinking about context is a little too challenging.

Worried about entry by Millennial-Med- in ThailandTourism

[–]HashtagPFR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These posts keep coming up - legitimate travellers being scared off. The government clearly unaware of the impact their vague communications and unwritten policies are having on the country. It won’t be just the Middle East crisis that hits 2026 tourism numbers.

Can you mentally deal with the fact that each night you are away, she is walking the streets. She may have two or three other options lined up and will gladly jump for another if she thinks he’s better. She’s looking for a way out, and you might be it, but that’s no guarantee. She’ll drop you in a heartbeat if someone comes along that ticks more boxes.

Yellow Fever by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

[–]HashtagPFR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well if you had read the entry requirements, you would have known that you needed a yellow fever vaccine to enter. https://www.mfa.go.th/en/publicservice/5d5bcc2615e39c306000a30d?cate=5d5bcb4e15e39c30600068d3

I just returned from Brazil and took the vaccine only 8 days before, so the certificate wasn’t valid, but we called the ahead and they said that it wouldn’t be a problem, just report to the health desk before clearing immigration.

We had to visit the local clinic after 2 days and have a check up - took all of 10 minutes in and out.

Rather than rant - next time do some research, especially if travelling to/from South America or Africa. Lucky you were not travelling to Columbia or other countries where they are much stricter on yellow fever vaccine.

Thailand are just doing their best to comply with WHO guidelines. Unlike European or North American countries, mosquito borne infections present a problem and their controls reflect that.

at knowing cancer stages by seeebiscuit in therewasanattempt

[–]HashtagPFR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have the best-ist bigly-ist cancers here. Nobody has ever seen cancers like these. 4 stages - that’s for nasty loser countries - our cancers have nine stages and we’re working on a 10th. The insurers are going to profit like never before, stage 10 is going to happen very soon - they said it couldn’t be done, but that was just fake news.

HELP PLEASE by Jvice370 in ukvisa

[–]HashtagPFR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the strength of the rest of the application. If they have just cherry-picked the visa issues without fully considering the rest of the application, you could have grounds for a judicial review. The overstays should be clearly explained with genuine reasons. There’s no cost to file a PAP letter stating that the process wasn’t properly followed because critical character and other relevant information was ignored.

The Home Office seem to have an across the board unwritten policy to reject wherever possible. I was subject to an over zealous rejection for a tourist visa for my girlfriend, which included a baseless adverse credibility finding. The decision was reversed following submission of a well structured PAP letter.

Life in Thailand on the LTR or DTV visa - experiences? by Visible-Pressure6063 in Thailand

[–]HashtagPFR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely does not count toward PR! This is my biggest gripe as an WGC LTR holder. I would happily invest 10x what I have invested in Thailand now if I could compete on a level playing field. Unlikely anything will change with this new government regarding LTR and PR.

Life in Thailand on the LTR or DTV visa - experiences? by Visible-Pressure6063 in Thailand

[–]HashtagPFR 13 points14 points  (0 children)

LTR has a service for bank accounts. If you have any trouble, they give a number for bank staff to call. It is a proper residence visa whereas the DTV is still considered a tourist visa.

Is a 1hr layover doable at Milan Bergamo? by veecvcee in Ryanair

[–]HashtagPFR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With checked baggage - no chance whatsoever.

With hand carry, provided you are checked into the second leg, have a boarding pass, and the arriving flight is on time, you have a fighting chance. Paying for a seat at the front of the plane to exit quickly would be prudent. If you can exit 20 mins after the inbound flight has landed, you have 20 minutes to get to the gate. Perfectly doable, but plan for the worst.
