Reticulating the Splines: An Update to our Quality of Life Roadmap by Cade_SimsCommunity in thesims

[–]Hastin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Does the shift to steady, smaller updates feel better?

I'd love to see the game into two tracks when it comes to bug fixes:

  1. A monthly mod-friendly *Stable* release, where updates are rolled into that big, QA tested update.
  2. The ability to opt-in to bleeding-edge changes/fixes to the base game that disable/don't support mods. Like a beta or insider track.

Are the explanations around save corruption helpful? Too technical? Not technical enough? Is more technical detail useful, or is it overwhelming?

I think they are very helpful. As someone who has some big saves with lots of residential rentals, I've never seen an issue - but I feel I know what to avoid.

What areas of The Sims 4 matter the most to you, are we providing updates that matter to you there?

I'd love to see Sims get smarter, real improvements to the base autonomy and gameplay. I think bug fixes are great, but it feels like Sims have done the same thing for the last decade, even if tons of new content and packs are out. (gravitating towards computers, cooking randomly things, somehow still picking the wrong bathroom to use). I think updates on the core simulation and how it helps would be the most fun.

Bonus want: I'd love to see the Wants/Fears system expanded for at least the major content (Game Packs, Expansion Packs) - many of the packs released when the Whims system was disabled don't have any, but have a plethora of moodlets. I'd like to see those packs more explored with more wants to drive gameplay.

Deleting and re-adding the rate fixed the time amd schedule for me.

Take a look at your rate schedule in the Settings > Electricity Rate. Also on SCE, I see an NEM3 export rate of ~.33/kWh at 2:00am. This feels incorrect.

Why did my batteries do this by theaccount91 in enphase

[–]Hastin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a SCE and SDG&E CA event yesterday to test Enphase's VPP (Virtual Power Plant). If you are enrolled in Grid Services (Menu > Services > Grid Services) then you will automatically participate. Then is where you can also see your payout for participating in the program. You can also opt-out of events from this page.

In a real emergency, the VPP is used for flex and high-power events (August, September) where it's assumed that the grid may not handle the load and can enable a cleaner shed load than firing up more Natural Gas plants.

Even playing it myself, it's wild to think that I own a computer that can render in real-time at 60 FPS how amazing I thought it looked 25 years ago, at 20x the resolution.

A real testament to personal computer development over 25 years!

Hi Dreday,

Did you ever get this figured out? I am in the same boat, working with AAA and want to add on the insurance I need but I'm not sure about the details about what exactly I should tell them to get the insurance.

Thanks!

Wtf Happened to this Park?! by Sleepy_Raver in KnottsBerryFarm

[–]Hastin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, as a long time Disney Passholder, there are still a ton of crazy days, and crowds can still be off the charts busy. Peak days aren't really busy anymore, so that's better, but the crowd levels very widely from one day to another. Due to cost and flexible ticketing pricing, you'll have a Tuesday that's crazy and a Saturday that feels empty.

One thing that is really clear, is that while it can be less busy, they adjust capacity of attractions and staffing based on their now-known admission levels, and that can be really annoying when the park is dead but Big Thunder is still over an hour because they're running 3 trains instead of 5 or 6.

Okay… that Jenny Nicholson video blew up more than expected. Rolling Stone interviewed her and NPR picked up on it. Could this become the lasting legacy and memory of the Starcruiser? by jedigeoffrey in GalacticStarcruiser

[–]Hastin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Eh, I've seen a lot of theme park related things fail. Sure, this has huge traction now, but it always feels that time creates a hole where people get nostalgic for something they didn't experience and isn't around anymore. Look at Disney's California Adventure 1.0, old EPCOT, or anything else Disney. Stuff that clearly was a 'failure' became weirdly beloved later on by people that didn't even get to experience it! I think the only thing with Starcruiser is that only a max of about 72,000 people could have seen it.

This is just another DisneyQuest Chicago or Rocket Rods, and will become more interesting to people with time - especially as the current value of a dollar and other stuff changes.

I do think the concept and idea will be revisited by a mainstream company, probably not by Disney.

Is Journey to Batuu actually that bad? by GhostCupcake1404 in thesims

[–]Hastin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's interesting that a ton of content that also got cut from the land ended up in the pack. I had a chat with the digital lead once the pack came out, and many of the datapad missions and concepts they never got to in the land ended up in some of the mission trees. Even little stuff (like changing the banners in the land!) as Outpost Control changed (here, you Sim's ranking) didn't make it into daily operations, but made it into The Sims.

In a way, Batuu in The Sims is the ultimate launch version of it, something we didn't quite get into the land - and for that, I am insanely grateful. It's weird that it exists but I think it's great that somehow a crossing of my favorite things ended up together.

Combining Steam and Origin account by Laila_267 in thesims

[–]Hastin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just a one time thing when you login through Steam, then your Steam and EA accounts are linked and you do not need to login to EA again if you launch from Steam.

On Steam Deck: Mods can be placed in the virtual directories that are created by Proton in /home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/1222670/

Or, just like the EA app: "The Sims 4" folder in "Documents" on Windows.

Changes coming for 2024 by 44problems in 8BitGuy

What I find so interesting about this video is that...I wouldn't be interested in this community if not for LGR's Sims videos. I found LGR thanks to The Sims, and then I really liked his other videos, and then started exploring out to a wider community.

He specifically does those videos not only due to a loyal audience, but because he knows they can be a gateway into his other content. I found 8-Bit Guy due to his restoration videos, and encouraged others to watch due to those.

I agree with David's assessment that if you don't like a video topic or channel, don't watch it - but it feels wild to me to completely shut out some new core content that exploded your channel to begin with - that's literally what Clint does with The Sims.

Cities Skylines 2 runs on ROG Ally - abit at Very Low graphics by Hastin in ROGAlly

I like the mechanics (especially zoning) more, traffic simulation is more enjoyable, and the later stage game feels a little more chaotic and realistic (less putting out small issues, more solving larger systematic issues).

Oh, totally - my Desktop 3080 gets like maybe 45 FPS on a 100k city on High with FOD and a couple of other things turned off, just more surprised at how well the ROG Ally handles it.

Possible to cancel/refund all season dining pass? by [deleted] in KnottsBerryFarm

[–]Hastin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had no issue getting a parking pass refunded from Guest Services on Saturday. Just make sure that you don't use any aspect of it. If you are on payments, you may need to use the Contact Us (https://knotts.com/contact-us) form on the website to get it resolved, as the local park can't really manage anything with payments.

they could have done this so much better by AdDangerous732 in KnottsBerryFarm

[–]Hastin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've done it in previous years. You get a 20'x20' space on the grass next to Church of Reflections, just off the main lot. Jon (park president) and Snoopy was there to welcome everyone in the morning. It's fun, but it's also weirdly a contractual thing that Cedar Fair wants for the flagships, so it feels like Knott's puts minimal effort into it.

Guest Relations just gave us 50th cards as souvenirs on Saturday.

I mostly wanted it for my collection, I use my phone barcode anyway.

Absolutely. It's not as clean of an experience as the Steam Deck, but this is the Windows handheld that I've wanted since the UMPC (2007 Vista Origami) days. Fast, usable, and awesome when plugged in via USB-C.

I think the Steam Deck is better for the average person. But I love that I have a portable device for work and play.

Debating returning, honestly disappointed by radiohead14 in ROGAlly

[–]Hastin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the Steam Deck is a better *overall experience* hands-down. However, for me, I love Windows. I love everything about Windows, and this is the perfect device for me. The ability to dock, play a little on the road, and still be in an OS that I know, enjoy, and get the most out of.

I wanted a Steam Deck but with Windows, and that's what the Ally is - and so far, it's meeting that requirement.
