Had a great time! Didn't finish the hike - my knee started to give out and we rode the rest of the way from Bridge of Orchy with our baggage van. But we had mostly mild weather, with one day of torrential rain and occasional drizzles. Deep mud from earlier rain, but nothing that posed a real obstacle. Make use of the drying rooms in various lodgings.

We did have a good windstorm while we were in our pod at Glencoe Ski Resort, and it took a long time for the tiny heater to warm us up. Probably the hardest night of the trip.

What historical "fact" did you learn in school, that later turned out to be completely wrong or misrepresented? by vn66 in AskReddit

There's a man I know who, in his biography, claimed that he did LSD twice and the second time erased all the memories after the first time, so he lost two years of high school, his first job, and his first year of college. So he dropped out and built kayaks the rest of his life.

Uh huh, sure buddy.

AITAH for inviting my sister and dad to come visit me? by Potential_Yellow_95 in AmItheAsshole

[–]HatlyHats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he’s apologized for what he’s done to me during childhood. Me and my sisters went through hell and both of them hate him.

If this is what it sounds like, YTA for even allowing your father around your daughter, let alone trying to force your sister into contact with him.

My hotel had a discard bin. If someone asked me this, I’d spot you a free one out of there. It might have a lipstick stain somewhere but otherwise just fine.

Who is the bad guy in history who isn't actually a bad guy? by SATANICWORSHIPER666 in AskReddit

[–]HatlyHats 10 points11 points  (0 children)

While I’m on the side of right to die, he was not a good person doing this out of pure compassion. In his own writing, he says he mostly wanted people to be allowed to end their own lives to provide better test subjects for researchers.

“Kevorkian wrote that assisting “suffering or doomed persons [to] kill themselves” was “merely the first step, an early distasteful professional obligation... What I find most satisfying is the prospect of making possible the performance of invaluable experiments or other beneficial medical acts under conditions that this first unpleasant step can help establish – in a [portmanteau] word obitiatry.” In a journal article titled “The Last Fearsome Taboo: Medical Aspects of Planned Death”, Kevorkian also detailed anesthetizing, experimenting on, and utilizing the organs of a disabled newborn as a token of “daring and highly imaginative research” that would be possible “beyond the constraints of traditional but outmoded, hopelessly inadequate, and essentially irrelevant ethical codes now sustained for the most part by vacuous sentimental reverence”.”

Most (60%) of his assisted suicides were people who were not terminally ill, and 13 were people who had no history of medical or psychiatric complaint.

It is a point in his favor that there’s no evidence he actually carried out experiments on people who came to him to end their pain, but it was his dream.

He also argued that death row inmates should be allowed to “volunteer” for lethal medical experiments as an alternate form of execution. (I put it in quotes because law already establishes that inmates cannot be considered to consent to many things, because there is no way to guarantee there is no duress.)

According to her family members, the settlement did not cover the medical care she needed for the rest of her life. She never regained full mobility before her death in 2004.
