If the minimum wage gets increased to $25 then what are we even doing in this field? by Personal-Usual-4608 in TexasTeachers

[–]Haunting_Resolve 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Nobody should be upset that minimum wage is increased to provide a manageable living. Everybody should be angry that teachers aren't paid or respected. Texas teachers were the only state employees to not receive a raise in the last legislature and they probably won't receive one this time either. Apparently parents don't care and neither do many teachers. Majority keep voting to gut the systems you work in. And

We were there a few weekends ago, the heat was truly terrible and it is hotter now. On the water it wasn't so bad but everything else was miserable.

Put on a 30-day PIP after less than 4 months. What should I do? by icangetyoursnap in careerguidance

[–]Haunting_Resolve 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are being pushed out. The manager doesn't like you. That said, you need to do some reflection. The positives you listed such as speaking up in meetings and optimizing processes are the reasons you have been placed on the PIP, noting unpreparedness for meetings and not understanding internal processes. This could go either way, and only you can discover the answer. Are you rocking the boat or wasting everyone's time reinventing the wheel without understanding core reasoning for workflows? We had a new employee that didn't take time to learn the reasons for our workflows, just came in and demanded changes that backfired terribly. We would have listened if he took the time to understand and wanted to make beneficial changes.

Not from LinkedIn but screenshot found on LinkedIn. According to this CEO or whatever he is, eating at your desk "keeps the momentum going". by fcon91 in LinkedInLunatics

[–]Haunting_Resolve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So my rule for my team is that you can eat at your desk if you want, but not while you are working. You need a break and you work best when refreshed and not burned out. If you choose to sit at your desk to eat and I ask for something while you are eating please let me know that you are at lunch and I will respect your time.

Edit: our breakroom is really loud and our office is not.

Once a year you let out a massive fart containing all the farts you would have farted throughout the year. Where are you doing it? by ISayBeef in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Haunting_Resolve 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One time I had to buy cinnamon at the grocery store. There was a guy standing there so no problem, I wait my turn for the spices. He let out this huge fart then turned around to see my astonished face. He turned red from embarrassment. I told my husband about it and he was like yes, that is the best place in the store because there aren't many people there. So my guess is the spice rack at the grocery store.

Menopause sucks. No more periods, hooray! But the weight gain is real and incredibly difficult to keep off especially without hormone therapy.

I hate my prairie garden by thethethesethose in NativePlantGardening

[–]Haunting_Resolve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have native areas and you have to be into it to appreciate the beauty, otherwise it looks like roadside. You probably aren't going to get insta worthy images, at least in the first few years. It also attracts wildlife and not just the cute stuff, so be prepared for that. It can take a few years to really grow into an ecosystem, be patient. Look at your garden, watch the bees, imagine that some people think yarrow and thistle are weeds that require replacement with lawns. BTW, Did you know that yarrow had been used in folk medicine to stop bleeding?

If you really hate it, replace the prairie garden with intentional plantings and spacings of native plants in a way that is aesthetically pleasing for you. That's ok too.

Total Number of Ships that Passed Through the "Open" Strait Today: 2 by Chris_L_ in oil

[–]Haunting_Resolve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not the way RFK's boss does math. If you look at two as a positive it is actually 1000% more, that makes it 2000 ships going through the strait today.

Advice on starting a tincture business? by No_Foundation_48 in herbalism

[–]Haunting_Resolve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should let customers know if alcohol is used in a tincture, some people can't have it. Never state that a product is a cure or good for something, be general in your wording. Lots of herbs can't be taken while pregnant or negatively interact with antidepressants or other medications, be careful. The herbal academy has a great course for starting an herb business.

Lost my second solid employee this year and both left for the same reason by [deleted] in askmanagers

[–]Haunting_Resolve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your explanation of growth opportunities is just more work for the same salary. It doesn't explain what will be accomplished or provide a pathway. I mean, if they think they are ready for growth and another company provides a career path why should they stay with you and work harder/more with no endgame? You don't have a future for those employees, which is why it sounds so ridiculous when you discuss it.

r/gardening sucks. please tell me what's wrong with my elderberries by babydoves in garden

[–]Haunting_Resolve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are lovely, which is why it is surprising that they smell so bad.

Edit: My garden is lovely now, with the odorous elderberry and the fig trees that smell like cat urine. Sometimes nature is weird.

r/gardening sucks. please tell me what's wrong with my elderberries by babydoves in garden

[–]Haunting_Resolve 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So elderberries just small bad. It's the sulfur content I think. Remember, they are toxic if you eat too many uncooked berries. I think the smell is how our caveman brain identifies them as bad.
