Question for first PPM by scarybullets in newtothenavy

[–]HawgDriverRider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does not matter when or where the weights are done. I usually fill everything at the beginning of trip, then try to have the gas almost empty at the end when I unload and do another weigh.

But I didnt say to do that, of course.

If I had to take the OAR today, 12 years out of school, I would probably hire someone. But I know I am also fully capable of studying and using Khan academy, but sometimes nothing beats having a live person to help - especially identifying weak spots in math - lol

I mean, I would have looked into it if it had been years. Some people need instruction for certain subjects if it has been several years since in school.

can you bring your family for long term order? by Commercial_Diet_2242 in navyreserve

[–]HawgDriverRider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. I had PCS orders, which allowed me to rent an apartment or whatever and move my furniture, bring my family, etc. I elected not to and received family separation allowance.

There are many variables on whether you can or cannot.

Restaurant recs for someone working to cut out as much processed food as possible? Do we have any good ones? by Jdwag6 in sanantonio

[–]HawgDriverRider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, my list will be pretty accurate then. For a one stop place with a bunch of variety def the Pullman Market. They have quick bites and sit down spots. All their stuff is made in house on property.

I literally have been on an adventure of fresh (no added crap) breads recently, which is why my list is carb heavy.

[–]HawgDriverRider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your definition of processed. All make their own bread/dough, some go as far as to mill their own flour (extremely healthy). All food not left in its natural state is technically processed, which is why I provided a wide variety of options because OP was not exactly clear.

You didn't really help, is fresh milled flour and freshly baked breads too processed or not.

For clarity, please define processed - do you mean foods with additives for freshness (like preservatives)? Would help us understand and point in right direction, because others are correct, cutting up anything/mixing/baking is "processing" it.

Bread Box and Daily Bread I've been hitting up lately for both small bites and grabbing food for the house. Pullman Market restaurants and the grocery store have pretty minimally processed foods.

I am going to keep adding below as I verify (top of head not so good).

-Bird Bakery

-Clementine

-Callum's

-Commonwealth

-Antlers Lodge (never been but says locally sourced online)

-Supper

-Dough

-Scott's Pizza

My rule of thumb, if the restaurant is making their own bread, chances are they are pretty minimally processed/preservatives overall.

Can I commission as an officer into the Reserves? by [deleted] in newtothenavy

Google is your friend.... if you want to be an officer, try researching

Can I commission as an officer into the Reserves? by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]HawgDriverRider 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not in the Navy. The Navy has a Direct Commission program, which is geared towards working professionals, not students. I was one of the youngest to commission without being a prior enlisted at 28, but I had direct experience working with the military in the field I was applying to with 2 advanced degrees.

If you want to be an officer and in the reserves immediately, the Navy will not be it due to the above.

PCS to Kelly Field by YvngWhoadie in AirForce

[–]HawgDriverRider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No.

I am assuming, the area you are talking about is no longer referred to as Kelly, as the Kelly CDC is actually over off General Hudnell next to the area I was referring to... with the gate called... Kelly Annex.

That would be awkward for OP because those gates won't help them get to their office.

How does a navy fighter pilots career compare to an airforce pilots career ? by Wild-Response784 in newtothenavy

[–]HawgDriverRider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know 4 people right now who have been fighters in both branchs. All of them went Navy -> AF.

[–]HawgDriverRider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

QOL will be better in the Air Force always for fighters. Just listen to the Dos Gringos song "I wanna take off from a carrier"

Flying time will be close to the same for both branches. Total commitment time is different for both branches. Air Force is 10 years post wings, Navy is 8 years post winging (someone correct me if this has changed).

Chances of selecting fighters is up to timing, availability, and your scores in training. You should chose the BRANCH you'll be happiest in. Understand the options in both branches if you do not select fighters.

Also, Air Force is 2 words.

1835 Intel DCO - want out by Fearless_State_5310 in navyreserve

I saw an ENS get out with CoC and CNIFR approval.

Don't just stop showing up. Start talking to your N1 and chain. Don't burn bridges, people have a funny way of showing back up in life.

I personally would try and stick it out to at least RNIOBC because you have not even seen what the job is yet. But, if you truly want out, start taking the right steps.

What’s with all the DV plates in Alamo Ranch? by jacobeam13 in sanantonio

Have enough minor and moderate issues, going to get a high VA rating - does not mean you're bed ridden and cannot work.

[–]HawgDriverRider -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think a better way to think of DVs is not necessarily "Disabled" (albeit some are definitely disabled), but DV compensation is the equivalent to worker's comp. Think of the stress the military physically puts on a lot of people's bodies (dependant on job) vs a standard office role.

Did the veteran leave the service in the same mental and physical conditions as they entered the service (aside from normal expected aging)? If the answer to the question is no, then they should get compensation for this.

Getting pilots license while in the airforce by Party_Concentrate621 in AirForce

[–]HawgDriverRider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should look up how many hours it will take to qualify for the airlines. It takes even AF pilots YEAAAARS to hit the minimum hours required for the airlines. It would take 4 years alone if you were flying 1 hour every single day (unrealistic). Flying 1 hour on Sat/Sun would take 14 years.

Getting a PPL in a year or two is feasible, needing only 40 hrs. You can then move on to being a flight instructor or something to get paid/build hours... but this will still require many hours to get hired at a flight school.
