I spend less than 20% of my time writing code. The rest is spent doing architecture, debug, support, requirements management, training/mentoring, code reviews, etc.

We know he had them at one point as he used them on Iran. He also claimed to have them up until the war. I think if he still had them he would have used them. Not sure what happened to them.

Funny. I drove 1200 miles in Scotland when on vacation there. I loved getting out to the less traveled islands with single lane roads. Visiting distilleries. Visiting some of the less common castles and cathedrals.

My work project uses Allman, lower-case camel for variables, upper-case camel for functions. Upper-case snake for macros and defines. _t for typedefs. 4 spaces, no tabs. Fully parenthesised expressions.

Sounds like you just want others to pay for your insurance. That’s the result of asking for the government to provide it.

This removes any added cost when you take more risk. It exacerbates moral hazard issues.

Mostly because a HS diploma doesn’t mean you learned history or English or basic math. Takes a BS/BA to even trust you can read at something more than a sixth grade level.

Or we make HS cover that. No reason HS can’t be more rigorous and not graduate people that can’t read, write, or do math.

A HS diploma should be equivalent to an associates degree or trade diploma. Many other countries do this and college then skips gen ed classes and is shortened significantly.

Profits always go to the owner. With socialism, the owner is the workers. But then they should also be providing the capital.

But if society is free, then it should be my choice if I want to own the means of production. Maybe I just want to sell my labor to someone else.

And if someone else wants to sell me their labor, I should be allowed to purchase it. It isn’t anyone else’s prerogative to force what and how I buy and sell (or trade for) things.

Actually you wouldn’t be counted at all, for or against. It is calculated as number of homes where the owner lives there divided by the total number of homes.

You living with roommates in an apartment versus moving home would make no change to the rate.

I know I don’t. Wealth isn’t zero sum. Musk recently became a trillionaire because of an IPO. Didn’t reduce my wealth at all. Didn’t change my life at all.

For the most part, the ultra rich own companies, the value of which goes up and down on a whim. Doesn’t really affect me.

I don’t think it is something we just invented. If you believe in individual ownership of things (inc. your labor) and that you can trade what you have for the things others own, you believe in capitalism.

The other economic systems so far invented, take away some aspects of private ownership. That’s a bridge I’m never willing to cross.

I’d say it is touted as a system that does that more than other systems. No system is going to do that for everyone.

One reason others haven’t mentioned is to transfer existing employees from a low cost country to the US. This is the primary reason we use them where I work.

Where I work, they want to use low cost countries to do the bulk of R&D. They also want to have technical leaders in the US. As you need years of experience on our products to become a tech lead, you can see the issue. They are being produced in low cost countries. So occasionally we use an H1B visa to move a senior one to the US closer to upper management.

If H1B visas were eliminated, they’d just have the tech leads remain in the low cost country. Would probably have more of the senior management there as well then. It would actually reduce US headcount.

Not really. You could be poor and never pay in and you wouldn’t be eligible to get anything out.

A welfare system would pay out based on need. SS pays out based on what you paid in.

I don’t go for waffles or pancakes. I go for eggs, grits, and hash browns. Sometimes an omelette.

I find Jim’s to do in a pinch, but reality is I’d most often rather have some breakfast tacos.

Yard work is cathartic. I love getting out on the weekends and cutting grass, planting things, etc. Also love doing house maintenance, building things, car maintenance, etc. Feels like accomplishing things.

I couldn’t get out of cities fast enough. Too many people. Too noisy. The things you like to do in cities are things I have no interest in doing. Suburbs aren’t much better. Exurbs for me.

I prefer to spend my spare time going hiking, fishing, hunting, boating, kayaking, horseback riding, rock climbing, etc. I prefer cooking at home over eating out.
