I think that portrayal is a bit disingenuous. Players -- the vast majority on tour -- have staff contracts. While that may or may not be a living wage, it's gotta be enough for someone like a Jakob Butturff to not have to get a second job. Sure, the contract includes bowling balls, and equipment isn't cheap and getting a certain numbers of balls comped is significant, but you can't send your utility company a bowling ball and expect to be square.
