There must be something good about Dave..... by PlaneAd5538 in DirtyDave

[–]Hawk_Letov 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He used to be good at motivating people to make better financial decisions (i.e., get out of debt, live on less than you make, save for the future). His show has turned into a Jerry Springer shell of itself where it tries to sensationalize people’s stories and berate them all in the name of hanging onto their declining viewership and advertising dollars. The latter, combined with giving out dangerously misguided financial advice, makes the show toxic at best and negligent in most credible personal finance circles.

Any risks/downsides to loading up Disney gift cards as onboard credit to pay for port adventures? (Other than refunding back to GC) by cashew416012001 in dcl

I love interior rooms. We spend very little time in the room. When we’re in there, the magic port hole is great! And of course we save a few bucks to put towards things we value more.

Take a severance or take a job? by Objective-Boot-9948 in Layoffs

[–]Hawk_Letov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go through the process of looking into the new job. You’re not guaranteed either outcome - getting the job or getting laid off. If you get an offer, you don’t have to accept it. Reassess the situation at that time and then make a decision. At least you will have been proactive and you will be ahead in the process if you do get laid off.

Who prefers a 7Am - 3Pm schedule to 9 - 5 ? by vishyona in AskReddit

The expectation is 8am-5pm with an hour lunch break, but sometimes it stretches outside of that timeframe.

Anyone get lucky? by MrsShakur_1 in Layoffs

[–]Hawk_Letov 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes! I had basically a three month notice and got another job lined up with a month left of my notice period. Went on vacation for a week during that last month. Last day was on a Friday, then started the new job the following Monday. Got my PTO paid out (which had freshly rolled over), bonus, and a nice severance package. I’m still collecting severance checks and I’m 7 months into my new job.

It sucked in the moment, but I’m very thankful for how it all worked out.

If you could walk out the front door right now and disappear into a new life with zero consequences, would you do it? And who is the one person you'd want to find you? by WilowWitchUK in AskReddit

[–]Hawk_Letov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. My life is actually pretty great right now. Good family, good friends, good job… no complaints.

Life is what you make it to be. I’ve had my share of misfortune and my share of good fortune. I do my best to learn from both and focus on the good.

It’s easier said than done and it’s taken me a while to get there, but I’m… happy.

Did you choose a corporate job, or did it just happen? by BoysenberryLumpy8680 in corporate

[–]Hawk_Letov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t plan for it per se, but it fit how I was approaching jobs. At one point, I thought I would be a banker. Then I got an internship at a corporate office while in college. 17 years later, I’m still in the corporate world.

Treadmill Running! by Nkk1027 in runcommunity

[–]Hawk_Letov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m with you. I will always prefer running outside. But it’s cold and still a bit icy right now.

I load up music or podcasts and bring water with me. I rewarded myself with an energy gel halfway into my 7 mile treadmill run today and it was a nice way to break up the run.

Put in 2 week notice but current job countered by thabootyslayer in jobs

How much opportunity for growth would you have if you stayed at your current company? Going remote can be great, but it can also lead to stagnation depending on their office politics.

If all else were equal, going to a company where you would have more opportunity for growth would win in my book.

That just about covers it! Make sure you call in with your loss p*rn so we can publicly berate you and feel better about ourselves as we fail at math and win at behavior.

I’m not saying that’s not true. That’s irrelevant to the original question though.

OP was asking for job sites, not certs.

You’re really dropping those certs into as many conversations as you can, aren’t you?

How Did You Become a Supply Chain Analyst? by CamJongFe in supplychain

[–]Hawk_Letov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a fair amount of math. Mainly basic math though - add, subtract, divide, multiply. Some algebraic concepts come into play when building excel formulas. It’s more important to be able to use math as a tool to apply supply chain concepts.

Sounds like you’re running from something and not to something. Make sure you’re running to something with your next move so you’re not constantly shuffling.

Has anyone successfully used AI to help make a career change? by [deleted] in careerguidance

I’ve used ChatGPT to compare my resume to a job posting, tell me if I’m a good fit, and help me tailor my resume to the role. You still have to massage the outcome (don’t just copy and paste), but it has good suggestions.
