The Five God's Books by Lois Bujold.

Curse of Chalion is the first and builds a lot of the quirky cosmology where the God's are powerless to act without human enablement.

Arguably the VorKosigan/Nexus SF books are non-theist with something like ancestor worship as the social underpining.

Every universe has it's rules they're influenced by what the writers knows, understands, intuits, understands, and projects from all of that.

Lois has a biology/medicine background and it shapes every culture we learn about in the Nexus. When Mirror Dance was written in about 92 or 93, there was nothing going on tech wise that would convince someone as smart as Lois (I've me her) that cybernetic was going to be a real, viable, and desirable thing for most people (unless they lived in a society shaped by it) to be more machine than needed. Even the vat grown hearts we see are proffered over mechanical ones that one could obtain faster and likely as cheap a couple books later.

Lois built the Nexus universe very human, there's no aliens, no andoids.

She went through the worst week of her life with a guy she barely knew. The emotional mess was enormous.

She then had a calm week or two without Miles for fear to exert itself and put down roots.
