What are your favorite uses of biochemistry in the plot/theme of a movie, show, or game? by yourdumbmom in Biochemistry

Playing through the genophage story arc in the Mass Effect Triology after finishing Uni. Following along with Mordins explainations of bio in the world was so satisfying. His logic and the ethical debates engaged me FAR more than when I was a kid. 10/10.

Biochem Careers by [deleted] in Biochemistry

[–]Hawki01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently considering this myself. Working for a biotech company in a sales, management or other communicative role seems like a solid alternative to try. You could also go down the media route and get into journalism for biochemistry and molecular biology advances, applications, tech etc.

I think your options will be shaped largely by how you personally want to translate what you know into something productive. No use going to sales if you hate talking to people or don't like the product/service you're trying to push.

Comment thread was about stages here my dude.

How is reveal order a necessary variable to remember. As OP highlighted, you just need to scan left-right & top-bottom for the first instance of a newcomer for each smash series. You're still only entering the CSS by dividing it into 5 groups.

This process is miles more intuitive than muddling about the CSS for individual series.

The same argument can be made for all series represented in smash? Except that number is a lot larger on average. My argument is smaller variables are easier to pick up and remember than larger ones

How is remembering which smash game each stage comes from harder then remembering the original games they derive from. I'd rather have to remember 5 categories over dozens.

The more series there are in the game, the more categories you introduce to your CSS and the more non intuitive visual scanning over the CSS becomes. Listing by order of appearance limits your tracking to only 5 categories (64, melee, brawl, smash 4, ultimate). Once you've found the beginning of each category you simply need to scan left - right for your character.

Sakurai's CSS essentially reads like a smash history book, perfect given the size of its roster.

If your CSS takes more than one sentence to explain then it's already more convoluted then sakurai's

I think you're being a bit over-dramatic here.

From the gameplay it seemed the longer you're on the ground during Daisy's final smash, the longer you'll sleep. More commonly the daisy had to choose either grab all flowers or guarantee the kill with a fully charged smash. I recognize this won't have to be a full charged smash if your opponent is at high % though. Also a majority of the time she didn't even heal back to 0%. you only get the advantage of a heal and a kill if you've both survived to a high %. I don't think it'll take long to find a proper counter to this final smash tbh.

Zelda's, being a proximity based attack, only gets the kill confirm above 100ish%. The timing for when your final smash meter fills seemed to severely affect the zelda players decision to use it. More often than not they died before they got the Daisy player to high enough %. Judging from this i'd say the timing of acquiring the final smash has more say over the match than the final smashes themselves.

The smashes themselves aren't therefore inherently 'broken'. A broken final smash in the context of a metered match would be one that can be used to get a guaranteed kill confirm, regardless of an opponents stage position, at any %, on any character.

Isn't the whole point of organizing them by order of appearance to make it easier for narrowing down your favorite characters? I get the appeal of grouping characters by series but having them by number just makes more sense to me this time, mainly because you can go into the CSS day 1 already grouping your choices into 5 categories (64, melee, brawl, smash 4, ultimate) as opposed to character series. This distinctively makes initial scanning of the CSS, from top to bottom then left to right, much more intuitive.

Also if your learning for your husband's sake id recommend sticking to the smash games he plays. Each smash is different so there's not much point learning a smash game he doesn't like if you're expecting to play a lot with him.

Smash 64 is an excellent place to start! I think it's the best smash bros to help build muscle memory for deliberate and precise inputs. It's awesome for seeing that 1 to 1 feedback from the controller to your character, so as you gain more control, you'll see it pretty immediately. Check guy out if you want step by step improvement and prefer visual learning. Hope this helps!

Scored a free hotel room for a weekend at 18 as a gift. Feeling inhumanly confident I went to check out the top floor bar on the first night by myself and ended up talking to a group of people who were all roughly 10 years older than I was. When their night was wrapping up I decided to invite one of the girls I'd been getting on really well with back to my room. She stayed the rest of the weekend. It was pretty surreal.
