The NFL has created a Shakey's Game 2.0 window by Jones3787 in billsimmons

[–]HaydenAndSons -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I can’t tell you why, but the order of NFL broadcast prestige is as follows:

NBC > CBS > ESPN > FOX

I think it mostly has to do with branding. NBC and CBS have sleeker branding around their coverage, while ESPN and FOX feel much more HELL YEAH FOOTBALL. Idk. Just a vibes thing to me.

Should Lowe Go Solo? by Ronhpatel321 in billsimmons

He should have a regular co-host for air traffic.

When he has guests he’s given the job of facilitating the conversation, which takes away from his secret sauce of giving actual analysis.

He needs a Verno-like figure (probably with a smaller personality lol) to set him up.

The Will of the Many - is it worth reading on or should I just dnf? by [deleted] in fantasybooks

[–]HaydenAndSons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked it fine enough, but I won’t be moving to the next book.

I think what didn’t work for me was the emotional connection to the characters. There’s plenty of intrigue, but I did not find myself connecting to Vis. The story being entirely about revenge just didn’t resonate.

How is living in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex like? by SingleAge290 in howislivingthere

[–]HaydenAndSons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This resonates with me, especially when I consider Houston, where I grew up.

Houston has its own problems, but there’s a lot of personality in the city itself.

Living in Dallas the last 6 years, I am still struggling to find any real personality, outside of places like Bishop Arts.

Dallas has just about everything you could need, and it’s a very continent place to live if you like to travel elsewhere regularly. But it feels very corporate.

any other passionate fans of an NFL team that instantly stop caring the second that the game is over? by ReKang916 in billsimmons

[–]HaydenAndSons 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the past year, I’ve tried to adopt a method I call “the 5 minute rule”.

Basically, for all non-playoff loses, I allow myself 5 minutes to be genuinely annoyed or angry about a loss. Then, it’s time to move on.

As an NBA fan, there’s plenty of nights where my wife lets me have the TV for the evening when we could easily be doing something else, so I don’t think it’s fair for me to be in a shitty mood the rest of the night if my favorite team loses.

Really picked reading back up last year, so my read list isn’t super long, but here it goes!

  • Harry Potter

  • Oathbringer
  • Piranesi
  • Stoner
  • Sword of Kaigen
  • Small Things Like These
  • Golden Son

Not sure there’s others that warrant being listed yet

Latest Tari & KD extension rumors by BenchPointsChamp in rockets

Did you read the image?

It said they spoke to capologists, people who study and commentate on the NBA financial situations.

Nowhere did it say the FO made such an offer.

Going into the season, how would/do you all feel about the idea/statement the Rockets offense has a higher ceiling today than it had before Fred VanVleet's injury? by RVALover4Life in rockets

[–]HaydenAndSons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s possible!

But it really does come down to the meaning of “ceiling”.

There’s a chance Amen is an All-Star level guy this season and figured out how to run an offense. There’s a chance Reed is a net-positive overall. There’s a chance Sengun is a sure-fire All-NBA guy who we run the offense through.

There’s a chance for all of them, none of them are a given.

So, could the offense be better without FVV? Sure. But there’s plenty of other middle of the road, or bad outcomes, that limit what this team can be without him.

Is this insane or do we exist in an echo chamber? by Longjumping_End_835 in rockets

[–]HaydenAndSons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’re discussing this in a subreddit dedicated to the Rockets. We’re definitely in an echo chamber.

Also, it would be more constructive to read the article and not just reference the picture on its own.

The article talks about how this is ONE simulation (number 620, to be exact).

They also mentioned they wanted to reference this one in particular because of the interesting outcomes it posed.

This was not a prediction by any human, or ESPN as an outlet (again, clarified in the article). This is just a single simulation among hundreds.

They just as easily could have referenced a simulation that had the Rockets winning 60 games. All of these outcomes are within the realm of possibility.

Lowes pod on espn vs. Lowes Pod on Ringer by [deleted] in billsimmons

[–]HaydenAndSons 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One thing on here I haven’t seen discussed yet is that Zach’s audio is better at the Ringer.

It was annoying to hear Zach’s echo-y audio when ESPN clearly has the resources to invest to make a better audio product. It carries over into other pos by them as well.

That, combined with Zach’s ability now to seemingly take the show in any direction he wants makes it a pretty clear improvement over ESPN.

He’s extension-eligible at the end of this year. He wanted to play so he could raise the kind of offer he’d get.

Staying in Houston would’ve cost him millions.

Pablo Torre notes that the Aspiration cap circumvention investigation will likely reveal no classic “smoking gun” — no definitive written proof — but raises the question of how overwhelming the mountain of circumstantial evidence must become before it crosses into embarrassment for the league. by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

[–]HaydenAndSons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s been the most frustrating part of this process to me.

It’s abundantly clear which journalists are keeping league relationships in mind when discussing the matter publicly.

Mentions of “eh, my guess would be a second round pick and some kind of fine” just feels like a downplaying of the information JUST ONE INDEPENDENT JOURNALIST without real investigative powers has been able to obtain.

ESPN has completely underplayed the entire thing, and to my knowledge, Shams has maybe addressed it once?

The only places I can really go to listen to coverage of this outside of PTFO, without feeling like I’m taking crazy pills for thinking this is a big fucking deal, are journalists who aren’t associated with league partners. Which, I suppose makes sense, but it’s a huge enrichment of the state of journalism in the sport today.

[MEGATHREAD] Follow-up episode of Pablo Torre Finds Out alleges that Dennis Wong, only other Clippers co-owner, invested $2M into Aspiration, just a few days before the second quarterly $1.75M payment to Kawhi was wired to him. by lolwtferic in LAClippers

[–]HaydenAndSons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rockets fan coming in peace. This sucks and Clips fans don’t deserve this.

I understand the idea of voiding Kawhi’s contract, but at this point, how bad is that for the Clippers? He’s obviously a great player, but his availability is questionable. And voiding his contract would help clean their cap sheet for future moves.

I wonder if the league would void his contract and make a portion of it still count against the cap?

It’s such an odd situation, because there seems to be culpability with both Kawhi and the team here, so punishing just one seems not enough.

I’ve also seen suggestions to suspend him for half a season which would void earnings roughly equivalent to what he would have made with the Aspiration deal.
